Scout Rifles?

In PvE almost every non-exotic scout drastically underperforms. When an entire weapon class just is ignored by most players, that’s not a good sign. I want to like scouts, I really do, but they’re outperformed by pulses at longer ranges and mid range, and are way outclassed by hand cannons at closer ranges. Please buff them to bring them in line with other weapons, and make them viable options for PvE play. As someone who rarely goes into the crucible, I don’t know enough to give an opinion about the performance of scouts there, so if others can give feedback below, it’s be appreciated.

    • Well, lets get interesting (this are the characteristics according to my logic, if someone thinks I missed something is welcome to clarify) Scout Rifles: long barrel / semiautomatic (bigger rounds) / iron sights, reflex sights, scoped sights / high stability / low-medium recoil / long range Pulse riles: long barrel / burst fire (3-5 rounds) / iron sights, reflex sights, scoped sights / medium stability / medium-high recoil / medium range Hand cannons (aka 16th century tech): short barrel / single action, double action (big rounds) / iron sights....only / medium stability / high recoil / short range So I know what you mean scouts being crap for pve, because game designers screw the part of the range / stability giving hand cannons an effective range that is not possible to have due to the weapon characteristics and the trigger action on a rev...hand cannon would make them even less accurate, also they screwed the impact of the weapon because of the damage the rounds inflict, scout being a middle spot between a sniper and a combat rifle, the impact should be higher and keep the damage value for longer distances than a hand cannon which with such a short barrel should decay in a few meters, but meh I doubt they'll ever see this logic, because there are a lot more hand cannon exotics and quests tied to them than any scout rifles

    • Mida ruled PvP for a bit and everyone cried so they nerfed the shit out of it and all other scouts so whiny shotgun babies could walk through 5 bullets across a map and one tap you .

        • I recently got a Black Scorpion with accurized rounds ,high impact reserves, firefly, and a range masterwork that might be the best legendary scout I've ever had in D2 and thats for pve and pvp..

Dev Team Lead: "Ok, Jim we got balancing changes done on the Exotics right? RIGHT? can you put that down for one second, *snaps fingers* JIM! It was when the scout meta reigned supreme. IMO, they haven't been right since CoO.

                • Transfiguration - ambitious assassin and rampage. I added a minor spec mod to it and fell in love. It’s one of the best scout rifles I have used in ages.

                • The iron banner scout rifle is actually pretty great when you need something for those longer ranges like in shattered throne or reckoning, just make sure to grab one with rampage so after a kill or 2 it starts 1 shotting dudes.

                • I hear ya mate. I was a big scout and sniper fan in D1 and both were really good in PvE and PvP. But that was back in the days when PvP was based on skill. This has been sadly overtaken by weapons like Warcliff, Jotuurn, LoW and other op easy kill types. And as we all know, if the so called "top" PvP players and streamers don't use em, they get ignored. The only reason snipers are being used more at present, is because there's a weapon to grind for. Mida is still a fave of mine, but as you stated, it's an exotic. I back you that we need all scouts buffed.

                • Across the board dramatic increases to aim assist and stability, as well as increasing body shot damage would go a considerable way towards making them viable. As for exotics, I'd also like to see the Jade Rabbit get a bigger damage boost to head shots when procced from a body shot, the Skyburners Oath needs to stay fast firing regardless of hip fire or ADS as well as having its catalyst drop from any Cabal related activity, and the MIDA needs it's catalyst to drop in regular PvP, as well as doing something other than increasing reload speed, which was honestly a slap in the face considering it is already by far and away the fasting reloading scout in the game. Perhaps full auto? And the Polaris Lance needs to have its blast damage range increased. As it stands it seems that it is on par with the Sunshot hand cannon, and due to the requirements in order to get the explosion to proc, I think it needs to be bigger and more powerful. As for your last point about PvP play, I can tell you having spent most of my time in PvP that scouts are rarely seen. There's a few maps where they can shine, but for the most part they are largely overlooked and for good reason.

                  • Actually playing a baby warlock right now and at lower levels scout rifles are still quite effective. It will be interesting to see if I can determine exactly where/what level they seem to lose that.....

                  • I miss my cryptic dragon with firefly (not this dragonfly bs) and crowd control (known as rampage now). Pulse rifles were still good in D1, but scouts were awesome. Seriously, wtf happened?

                      • Scouts got nerfed big time because everyone was using it in year 1, remember nameless midnight. It was the most used weapon in pve. Until explosive rounds got nerfed and pulses buffed.

                        • After noticing that pulses were able to actually compete with my Polaris at SCOUT range I was fed up scouts already aren’t in a good place in pve and pvp but the fact that a pulse can challenge me from doorway to spawn all the way to tree on bannerfall is a problem I hope scouts get a buff I loved scouts in d1 especially the burning eye I’ve made so many people mad with that gun 😂😂😂

                        • Legendary only I think scouts of D1 outshine those of D2 10-1 everytime. Close range battles are not meant to be done with scouts and close mid to mid range shouldn't either. Scouts should be used for long mid range to mid long range and that is where they should shine but even then most of them do not. it's a weapon to be used between snipers and pulses and too many of them are worthless
