Bungie has some MAJOR philosophy/game identity/ creative vision problems to solve. The problem is that they are so busy fighting among themselves, and reacting to short term problems that they leave these foundatiional issues unaddressed. I'm mean seriously. How you justify bringing Black Hammer and MIDA multi-tool back to the game...only to nerf them in the exact same ways you did the LAST time is just mind-boggling bad. Where you wrong the FIRST time you nerfed them....or where you wrong when you brought them back in their pre-nerfed form? Did you fail to learn from the mistake of creating them in the first place? Or did you fail to learn from the mistake of nerfing them the first time?

 • It's their business model. Shiny toy garners a ton of attention. Once overused, nerf said toy and introduce new shiny toy. Rinse and repeat. The problem here is not Bungie. Why would they deviate from something that works so well?? The problem here are the players who continue to fall for the same old stuff time after time after time. Starting in D1 all the way until now, it's the same cycle. And mark my words... after Y3 Penumbra is launched, Outbreak Perfected will get nerfed!!! +30% nanite damage??? Ya, when a kinetic is a preferred boss damage dealer over a heavy, oh its gonna get nerfed mightily!!

 •
Shiny toy garners a ton of attention. Once overused, nerf said toy and introduce new shiny toy. Rinse and repeat.
Horrible business model for anyone wanting long term success or cultivate brand loyalty.
The problem here are the players who continue to fall for the same old stuff time after time after time.
Disagree. Many of the problems that Bungie has had, could be attributed to their inexperience with RPG games. Especially during Destiny 1 where---over the last 2 years----those problems got better. The issue we're dealing with here is that Bungie seemed to ignore all those lessons from the first game (we now know why....different dev team who put their own agenda ahead of player expectations) ...and they are digging in their heels and IGNORING the tidal wave of negative feedback that they're getting. I think a lot changed at Bungie last year. I think they're in over their heads and simply can't service this game properly...so that is causing them to do some of the things they're doing. But I also think their devs are at-war with the player base. They are mad that we didn't play their game....their way...last year. And now this is their passive-aggressive way of exacting revenge: We're going to make our game, our way...and you are going to play OUR game OUR way. Period. Which---if true---is kind of sad and self-destructive. Because no one has to play this game...and devs NEVER win these kinds of pissing contests with their customers. No business does in a competitive market.

 • Exactly! This is what annoys me, not the nerfs in particular (over time I can kinda see where they're coming from), but the fact that they don't learn. They've brought back exotics time and time again (which in itself annoys me), but to bring some back in original form knowing they nerfed them is beyond stupid.

 • Agreed. ...and that inability to learn as an organization is slowly costing them my support. Giving someone FEEDBACK is a waste of time if they dont' hold themselves accountable to change in response to it.....and apparently fail to learn FROM it.

 • I agree in principle, but i think you are leaving out the corporate greed factor. Of course they know what happened, and could have avoided it, but they also knew it would drive up numbers. Just like with Prometheus Lens. The benefit outweighs the negatives, from THEIR perspective. Remember, Ford knew the Pinto would kill people. They did the math and released it because they knew they would make far more than they paid out. Corporate greed. Bungie knew exactly what would happen, and when it needed nerfing, they did the same exact nerf. They did it cause the hype generated numbers and people went after it with a vengence. And the long term negatives were lower than the short term benefits. Would love to see the sales numbers after whisper was released.

 • Trust me, they learned and they’re doing it intentionally to surge their playerbase. And it works. They sprinkle something in that’s OP knowing everybody will play the game to get it. The nerfs are already decided weeks or months in advance. They intentionally release OP things with the mindset of “Well, we can always nerf it if we need to”. This eliminates any need to do any creative work like buffing up worthless exotics to match them. It’s strictly business for them. It’s disgusting, they don’t care about you at all just your time spent playing the game. Day one D1 player here. After a while their history speaks for itself.

 • Yeah, was just about to touch on this point a little. With WotW, I would have been happy to see it come back in 'Black Spindle' form, I think everybody would have been. But by bringing it back 'Black Hammer' style, they set these lofty expectations that they know from experience that they can't service. They give in order to take back.

 •
They give in order to take back.
Which is disrespectful to player time....and reasonable player expectations for this kind of game.

 • They cheapen the experience and invalidate peoples time and investment. I also look at a lot of these returning exotics as assets they've given, nerfed/buffed/tweaked, taken and then given back again.

 • I don't think they are intentionally being disrespectful. I think they are so far in over their heads with respect to manpower and the ability to create new content given how difficult their engine and dev tools are to work with....that they simply doing whatever works. They only thing I think they are doing intentionally is the issue with cores. Everything else I think is either arrogance or desperation.

 • Completely agree. And, yeah, I don't believe that they intentionally set out to upset people. Just that they're hopelessly oblivious.

 •
Just that they're hopelessly oblivious
Which often happens when people are overwhelmed with their own problems. They become unintentionally self-absorbed.

 • Work in the short term. Makes people hostile to your brand in the long term. Just ask Ubisoft and EA.
