Looks like someone finally woke up and realized that Activision knew what it was doing when it canceled its business contract with BUNGIE.

Activision has no idea what it’s doing

  • Activision probably split with Bungie because they did not own the IP. It's way less profitable for them. Same with Netflix cancelling Daredevil. Not because it wasn't successful but rather because there wasn't enough $ to be made without owning it.

Different dispute. Disney is setting up their own streaming service, and are on a campaign to get all the Marvel properties back home. When Fox refused to give them back The Fantastic Four, they cancelled the comic series to pressure them to sell. When they also refused to budge on the X-men, Disney just said “-blam!- this”... AND BOUGHT FOX to get them back. I’m betting Netflix bitterly and publicly cancelled them all, Because Disney gave them a renewal asking price they couldnt possibly agree to. The agreement expires and those right revert back to Disney...and Disney makes their own versions. Activision just decided that Destiny was a money loser that wasn’t making enough money to warrant the resources Activision was pouring into its development and marketing. IOW, those Netflix series were too valuable for Disney to let Netflix keep them. Activision DIVORCED Bungie. Deciding to cut their losses and walk.

  • Yes, just makes sense for Netflix as they wouldn't make enough $ with Daredevil considering they don't own it. Not sure about the bitterly part, think it was just a business decision. Activision like any other game publisher stands to make much more profit if they own an IP. The Bungie deal was a venture with a studio that kept their IP. Turns out that even if the franchise is successful it doesn't offer enough profit for them. Did Destiny under-perform according to Activision's expectations? Probably yes. Is Destiny a money loser? Hell no! Both parties are really better off. You spend a lot of time on these forums punch-bagging Bungie in the face. You are very eloquent in your posts. Have you thought of finding a game you enjoy and using your skills to be more positive? Just curious.

Networks generally don’t publicly announce that they are going to cancel a series. They just let it disappear unless you really go hunting for info. 1. I do enjoy Destiny’s game play (which is most important part of a game for me). 2. Healthy people don’t need doctors. The sick do. I enjoy The Division 2, but Massive doesn’t need my help. They got it under control. Bungie OTOH is like the teenager who thinks he knows everything an never wants to listen. He doesn’t want your help but needs it. Badly.

  • Mmmm, maybe they do need your positive input at the Division after all ;p https://screenshots.firefox.com/MooNRxTXV91tq0Um/forums.ubi.com Bungie's top peeps are middle aged with decades of experience so not sure if they should listen to every demand/solution/rant from the average player on their forums, unless said player is in the same line of work (maybe you are?). What's good for the goose is good for the gander does not apply to Destiny and its biggest challenge has always been trying to please all players within totally different styles of gaming, in one game. Extremely difficult to be everything to everyone. If I told you what matters to me, you'll probably be giggling for the rest of the week. :D

  • BioWare has lots of experienced people too. How’s that working for Anthem?? Destiny is an example of failed branding, failed leadership, and lost priorities Destiny is an mmo/looter-shooter hybrid. Bungie has never been willing to accept that brand identity or respect the reasonable consumer expectations that go with that. So they fail to make needed changes, and make changes that players experience as jarring. Bungie also has all the earmarks of s poorly run company. Factional infighting. No clear vision for their only product. Lack of accountability. Poor internal and external communication. Putting secondary organizational goals ahead of the primary mission of delivering a good product to the customer.

Other way around bungie left Activision. They couldn't do it sooner because they still in contract but finally when they did they claimed their ip. I mean they still working together until d2 is complete.

  • Haha Activision dumped this franchise, bungie signed a 10 year contract, Activision basically fired them after 8. Bungie couldn't just leave without.

  • Yes, bungie got fired after paying activision an exorbitant amount of money in order to leave them.

  • Activision isnt doing any better without Destiny. They're getting sued by investor over the split. Seems as though both Bungie and Activision were misleading people.

  • Yeah, but we still have to deal with Bungie, not Activision's decisions. At least Activision kept Bungie somewhat in check until this disaster they call D2 came about.

  • Too be honest who knows what was going on over the years. I'm okay with all the nerfs to weapons. It the nerfs to armor that has me miffed. Their reasoning for nerfing armor is because it was dominant armor means that they should bring up other gear so they can compete. Not make them weaker so we become weaker overall.
Too be honest who knows what was going on over the years.
I know some of it and 1 of the things that happened that shouldn't have happened was Bungie rebooting the game leaving only 14 months to push D2 out the door,
I'm okay with all the nerfs to weapons. Bungie needs to get their company properly managed and until that happens, D2 and D3 will continue to be the way it is now and that is not in a good thing at all.

  • It is true that bungie rebooted development of the game, but presumably they did this because they thought the game was not up to par and assumed activision would give them more time than they did to rebuild an entire game from scratch, which is why some people still attribute the problems with d2's launch to activision rather than bungie.

  • Nothing personal but them thinking the game was not up to par is not why they rebooted it. More along the lines that it had to do with the CEO quitting, changing leads, their broken engine from Halo days they are still using, the new IP, key employees quitting, having a new team working on D2, they renegotiated their contract because it was too hard to make content. The list goes on, on what actually happened. Nothing like you say at all.

  • Are they still using the halo engine? Legitimate question, because I had heard it was difficult to make the content because they made a new engine from scratch.

People seem to think for some reason because Bungie said they created a (Hybrid) that, that meant they created a whole new engine. Nope, Bungie didn't have the time or money for that knowing they were using it to create and sell D2. That's not including paying the other 3 studios working with them however that worked. It also explains why there are an absurd amount of coding issues.

  • Bungie was the one who went to Activision and said they couldn’t keep up with the release schedule and asked if they could do Eververse instead.

  • Yes. They said so themselves that is the reason why they left. "We expected to make more money from destiny so we are moving on to a new project" And then bungie followed up with that they declined an offer from activision that included more lootboxes/weapons for money. I read the whole interview.
