We need something done about Not Forgotten and Luna's Howl. Crucible population is dropping? What do you want done?

Look at the meta for Crucible. That isn't good. I want to get this out there: I've adored Destiny's PvP mode since the beginning in 2014. But here in Destiny 2, am I the only one who's puzzled by the fact there's non exotic hand cannons that can kill you within less than a second, even at mid-long range? Look, I understand that these particular weapons aren't just overpowered, they're also trophies for players who put themselves through the toughest challenges in the competitive playlist. But regardless of that, they're still overpowered, and you can take these guns with you wherever you want, typically in quickplay. Many people including my friends are discouraged to even play pvp anymore because of these two particular weapons. Whether or not they take "skill" to use as many claim, how hard is it to 3-tap an enemy player when you have heavy aim assist with a controller and hand cannon targeting perks? Not Forgotten is even better than Luna's Howl due to it's exceptional range, winning gunfights at mid-long range against pulse rifles, even scout rifles at times. Most of the maps in this game don't typically have long range fights, they're usually close quarters, giving Luna's Howl and Not Forgotten users an edge over nearly every situation. There's only a couple maps in the game that are more open and dynamic, offering more gameplay variety. The Trials of Osiris had better rewards: an exotic emblem that proves you won 9 flawless games in the Trials of Osiris, a trip to the Lighthouse, exclusive armor and an elemental primary weapon. (elemental primaries were extremely rare in Destiny 1). Mine was "The Summoner (adept)". Many players with these weapons are in denial and are quick to dismiss this criticism with "[url=https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/513488897334968340/556274179498967040/Crucible_God.png]git gud[/url]" and "dude it's so easy to get stfu" comments that miss the entire point of what I'm talking about. "Just use Ace of Spades...." Ace of Spades takes up an exotic weapon slot, Luna's Howl and Not Forgotten does not. Very similar stats, but fires 140 rounds per minute while Luna's Howl and Not Forgotten fires 180 rounds per minute. Within less than a second, you are dead. "Just use Jötunn..." Jötunn requires special ammo and takes up an exotic slot, Luna's Howl and Not Forgotten does not. False equivalency. "It's so easy to get..." People that say this are missing the point entirely. This quest is not only difficult, it is also incredibly time consuming. Your free time available to you to play this game is not representative of everybody else. I am not going to play this game like a job, damaging my sanity like I did for Trials of Osiris for overpowered guns that shouldn't exist to begin with. "They're not that good..." Then why would anybody bother going for these weapons if they're not the better tool to use in almost every situation? Understand that I'm taking the time creating this post because I love Destiny 2 Crucible and I want it to be better. Realize that you critique a game because you care. Now, the underlying problem is what Bungie can actually do. Well, the best thing they could have done is to never put these weapons in the game to begin with. Because if they take them away, nerf them, or make them easier to acquire, they're going to upset the players who put themselves through the trouble. All though I wouldn't mind it because Bungie did that to me after working hard to get Iron Banner rewards in Destiny 1, disallowing infusion of Trials of Osiris gear before the release of The Taken King, and taking 6 months to nerf Thorn, or nerfing the Black Spindle day 1 if anyone remembers that. In conclusion, I want more players to play pvp and I'm tired of having to adjust my load-out every game for a more sweaty playstyle just to contend with these particular weapons. Getting killed in less than a second by primary ammo weapons seems a little short, don't you think? Reminds me of Call of Duty. Bungie, are you guys gonna do something? PvP is a big part of your game and there are some serious problems you need to take action on. But what do YOU think? Am I overreacting? Or is what I say pretty spot on? So I'll have to put them in the body of this post below. ~Allow players to get these weapons through valor. ~Pull them from the game. ~Reduce their magazine size to 4 rounds. ~Turn these weapons into exotics ~Remove the "Magnificent Howl" perk Please add your own suggestion in the comments.

    This is a fantastic post. I’m in a similar boat, love destiny’s pvp, am solidly above average, and want the meta to change (among other things) so the numbers stop falling. A lot of people will not agree though. Only disagreement would be your changes to LH and NF. They need a nerf but they shouldn’t be destroyed. I’d hit their range and make it so Luna is a three tap to the head only.

        Dude, you're damn right. I really love this game, I love PVP, but I can't play it. All meta PVP are hunters with a shotgun + revolver + coil. The worst thing is that the most powerful weapon is not exotic (Blues, Moon / Unforgotton). Against the background of these guns, any others are a complete insignificance in PVP and this does not fix it in any way. And to these guns you can add a mod and do masterwork! REAL CHEAT!! I love pulse rifles, but they are absolutely useless agains Unforgotton / Luna on any distance. I love Graviton Lance, but he loses even the legendary pulse rifles, not like this meta. I do not understand why this is not corrected. And add here what I play on the warlock - the most UNPOPULAR class in PVP. It would seem, why? Yes, coz warlock most useless class in PVP.

          • As someone who has Luna's and is going to get Not Forgotten this season simply to say I have them, I say the best way to make these weapons so called fair would be to reduce the total damage of the weapons and making it so you need 3 headshots for the magnificent howl perk instead of two, I mostly use my Luna's in comp or yes sometimes in quickplay just for fun, im also perfectly fine for making these weapons just trophies and make it so they are average at best weapons. im ready for all the tryhards who need these weapons to do good in pvp to hate on me so go ahead :D

            • I liked your thread title. I agree for the most part about your body. I disagree with your conclusions and options. 1) pulling the weapons - Not At All Possible. 2) removing the perks - Should Not Be Possible: it is what makes that weapon different. 3) reduce magazine size - C'Mon Man!!! The problem is not the gun - nor the player wielding it - The Problem is how it is acquired. Fabled Needs To Go.

                  • Imo they could disable pinnacle comp weapons in quickplay. kind of how nightfalls lock in your gear. Can’t start quickplay if you have pinnacle comp weapons equipped and then you can’t switch to them. Or they need to have more skill tiers for matchmaking in quickplay.

                    • I don't mind getting killed by Lunas or NF, I only have Lunas but I very rarely use it because it's so boring to me. If other archetypes of h d cannons were buffed you can leave Luna and Nf as they are for me. Also some longer range maps and buff auto rifles and sniper flinch.

                      • changes for pve meta : 1) make 1K have 2 shots in the mag and 3 in reserve 2)ban all shotguns so they find something else to kill dregs with 3)make all raid weapons exotic 4) always error code them from last boss 5)make anarchy do 3 damage per tick this is just a salt post coz i dont agree with removing them but you made good points for why they need to change.

                          Biased post. None of these suggestions fix anything and completely devalues and spits in the face of anyone who has ever earned Luna/NF or any pinnacle. Unpopular opinion but Luna/NF was never meant for the average player or someone who plays just for fun thats just hard cold facts. Yes it is a powerful gun but it is not easy to get and by no means should be nerfed just because others don't have it. Every game has a meta so if you don't play the meta or are skillful or use anti meta you are just playing to lose. I didn't start it but the era of jff gaming is done. Pvp isn't dying, just alot of people are moving on to other games or simply rage quit because they don't have Luna/NF.

                          • You’re kidding right.......? “Pull then from the game” “reduce the magazine size to 4 rounds” “remove the magnificent howl perk” firstly, the people who grinder them out deserve to have them, they’re pinnacle weapons for a reason. And secondly, they aren’t guaranteed “gunfight winners” so you need to quit complaining, it requires 3 headshots in a row, if you miss 1 headshot then you’ve lost the gun fight. Do you know how many out of meta weapons I use? I’m talking beta weapons, nightshade, the widows bite, valakadyn etc and I outgun Luna/NF constantly. Stop standing still and giving them their headshots, strafe, crouch mid fight...the people who complain about the pinnacle weapons are usually the ones who can’t obtain them so they choose to complain

                              • So, to preface this I’ve Solod my way to fabled 5 times across accounts and made it as high as 4600 glory, currently trying for NF (once revelry is over because screw that noise) I think magnificent howl needs a small nerf, so that It only affects precision damage, and the timer is reduced to 2 seconds. It could still 3 tap, but wouldn’t feasibly 2 tap often, and wouldn’t be nearly as oppressive against supers. But I also think the pinnacle weapon system needs changed as follows: Each season that a new pinnacle weapon is introduced, the previous weapons from the same rank drop down a rank tier, and gain an additional quest step (that can be bypassed by getting the original rank) Example: -Luna’s howl would now require the entire quest, Brave 1 rank, and two additional steps -mountaintop would now require the entire quest, heroic 1 rank and one additional step, -Not forgotten would remain as is because a new legend reward has not been introduced. This makes pinnacle weapons obtainable for less talented players, at a later date, and also introduces rewards at multiple tiers of comp (which gives players more obtainable goals, and thus increases comp participation)

                              • Your final suggestions indicate the true intention of your argument. By allowing players to gain them in Valor would do nothing but further lean into the numbers and meta you present. My suggestion is to buff other hand cannons (reduced bloom/recoil) and buff auto rifle body shot damage. I’d also nerf the stability of Luna by 10-15 as it is actually better than NF within its optimal range as it’s much more ‘spammable’. This is the best way to bring other weapons up without ruining the NF/Luna on PC where it is not as strong as console (due to other handcannon archetypes being easier to use). If all else fails then making Mag Howl a three headshot kill would be the best option. Pulses and Scouts already beat NF and I can attest to this first hand. I recently switched to Bygones so I could try Recluse - I have around 350 crucible kills with both weapons now. Over that time, my efficiency went from around 2.48 - 2.55 and I never remember losing to a Luna/NF if I was duelling in the ranges Bygones should. The notion NF can outgun a pulse is from people who either are duelling in handcannon range or those missing shots and this is not a ‘git gud’ post but at a certain point players do need to look at themselves a analyse where they are going wrong too. In my honest opinion, Bygones w/kill clip or rampage and a Recluse is a better QP loadout than NF and dust rock. I do think Luna is too easy to use and that Luna/NF are the best weapons. However their power, particularly in a 6v6 environment has been greatly exaggerated and people have jumped on the OP bandwagon, mainly due to not being able to achieve them. The buffs I suggested earlier in this post would be sufficient, in my opinion, to bringing more weapons to the top of the meta on console.

                              • I agree......but if you look at the responses / complaints in here you’d think competitive is great and the community is the problem. If you speak against the current status quo you get hateful responses from those with the mentality I believe is the problem. Competitive is at an all time low I think...D1 or D2....because sportsmanship is gone to the gutter. It’s not that one can’t adapt to countering hand cannons, shotguns, and shoulder charges.....I just hate the attitude / atmosphere that competitive seems to foster now over these pinnacle weapons. It’s just nasty. And don’t get me started on the meltdowns some are having over Revelry and demand their game mode be exempt. I’d like to come back to competitive...but not until they clean it up. To be fair, I don’t raid like I used to either over attitude. This is a game and folks have forgotten that.
