Are you tired of the fluff?

Are you tired of the fluff and distractions from Bungie? I am going to start this off by saying I do not speak for everyone. I am sure there are a plethora of individuals that are still deeply invested in Destiny 2. However I will say this; I do not understand what direction the Bungie team is taking with Destiny 2. When I say “direction” I am referring to game content and updates. There is an ongoing trend of fluff and distractions released from Bungie. Many people may be blind to it, but I am not. There is so much fluff coming from Bungie it is incredible. Fans receive fluff when we push our concerns and issues at Bungie. The Bungie team replies with fluff. Fluff like, “we are listening” and “we are researching the issues”. That is fluff. Every release of content after Forsaken has been fluff. Fluff like; exotic emotes, vanity drops, sparrows, ornaments, subclass patches, reskined weapons...etc. I can see all the fluff and distractions Bungie is pushing toward fans. “Arc Week” is all fluff. Patches and fixes that should of been released with Forsaken are fluff and the team passes it off as content. Even this new update called “Revelry” is all just fluff. The infinite forest should of been established as a survival/dungeon type experience from the very beginning of its creation. The team should of established the infinite forest as another great PVE experience that is always accessible and offers meaningful content and loot after a completion. There is so much that could be done with that area of the game the possibilities are so vast. Yet the Bungie team continues to tease fans with that idea and remove it when they deem necessary. I will get off my high horse. I could continue but I will stop here. I just do not understand what direction the Bungie team is taking with Destiny 2. If a sequel is in the works and requires a majority of the team to be working on that; fine. However in my opinion Destiny 2 has been fluff and distractions since the game has come out. After the honeymoon phase fans realized this game was bleak and unrewarding. Destiny 2 at the core was not right. I say these things because I am a die hard fan. I love the lore, the story, the gameplay, and the community. If was not a fan I would not be here. I haven’t touched Destiny 2 in about a month. I hope Bungie learns from their mistakes and continues to develop great meaningful content/loot that will keep fans like me engaged for a long time.

  • I wonder what else the people working on the terrible emotes, ugly ghost shells and useless ghost projections could have created. Surely their time could have been put to better use than such pointlessly trivial things.

    • The problem is bungie themselves don’t actually know what the game is. They seem to experiment with things and instead of perfecting them they just move on to the next thing, this is why the game is such a mess.

    • I see your point. However, I must disagree with you. A bit of fluff is ok in my opinion, but they have also added a lot of enjoyable and meaningful content and lore to the PvE spectrum. Gambit prime? Forges? Scourge? All enjoyable (at least for a time) and I would argue not (at least not all) fluff. And yes, there is some fluff and added content, but name a game that has zero fluff whatsoever and turned out to be incredible (I’m sure there’s one, I just don’t know one). Also, for many, the point of a video game is to entertain. It is in its very nature and core. So if the fluff entertains people, what’s wrong with it? The hardcore no-fluff gamers will know what it is and just ignore it, and the people who like a little fluff in their pillow will be able to sleep soundly.

      • Yeah, this game has me wondering at times why I'm even still playing it. Lots of repetition. The same reskinned weapons over and over again, with quests that put you through hell to complete for a weapon only to discover that weapon isn't anywhere near worth all the time and effort you put into acquiring it, while other aggravating quests you finally just give up on and could give a shit less about by the time it's all said and done. Gambit and Gambit Prime both suck with solo matchmaking in those and the Crucible being an absolute joke, which hearkens back to my mentioning above about quest steps and when some of those steps require you to complete various tasks in either Gambit, Gambit Prime, Crucible Quick Play or Competitive (Competitive sucks too by the way). Then with all these and other issues I haven't mentioned here, I've heard talk that Bungie's actually working on a 'Destiny 3'. That sounds absurd with yet another kick to the nut sack surrounding the rumor that it's possibly being designed for Playstations next generation of gaming console system. If that's the case then all I can say is, "Adios Destiny." I'll be damned if I'm shelling out over $500.00 for a new game system just to play another disastrous version of a dying franchise. Even if that rumor isn't true and it's designed for the current system, unless it receives excellent reviews for a sustained period of time, I still won't be wasting my money on a 3rd installment.

Aside from a newfound appreciation for the word “fluff”, I guess I would agree somewhat. I wouldn’t say the past year or so has been altogether superficial. CoO, Warmind and Forsaken were all bonafide expansions (even if they were hit or miss quality-wise). It’s only been in the last four months that the really annoying “filler” content has crept in, and will apparently continue. What I think made it seem so bad for so long though is that while we may have had actual content releases in the last year, the grind filler has been increasingly more apparent. More opportunities to grind, more excuses for using rare materials, throttling currency and the crushing repetition of locations and activities have made Destiny seem like it has nothing fresh to do, even if there is technically plenty of content.

        • Yeah, they are just like any other company that uses marketing and hype to sell products. But I still enjoy the product and a few corporate tactics don't distract me from that.
