How to Nerf Luna/NF and balance handcannons

First of I’ll start by saying I have both Luna and NF unlike 99% of the people here crying about it. Also I’m better than 99% of the people crying here. So I don’t wanna hear “don’t nerf”... shut up... First of Luna/NF are strong... AF... which is fine. A pinnacle weapon should be good and meta. It just shouldn’t be the [b]ONLY[/b] meta. So stuff has to be brought in line. How to nerf it? Simple. Make Magnificent Howl only provide bonus precision damage. That way 3 taps actually require some aiming. Not 2 heads and a toe shot. Will this be enough? Yes, only if other handcannons gain some more power. Buffing the other archetypes is necessary regardless. They are all too weak right now and inconsistent. How should they be buffed? 110 RPM. Increased outgoing flinch. Increase base range. Allow 3 body shot kills. 140 RPM. Increased damage. Allow 2 crit one body kills on all guardians no matter the resistance. 150 RPM. Increased damage. Increased stability slightly. Allow 2 crit one body on low resistance guardians. 180 RPM. Increase recoil for all 180s slightly. Reduce flinch 180s cause. These changes paired with the nerf will still allow Luna/NF to be meta while bringing in line all the other handcannons in game. Allowing guns like DFA, and Dire Promise back into the Meta. Anyone wanna debate this? Edit: All of these changes would be meant as an addition to the already incoming buffs coming. Handcannons weren’t addressed and I feel this is what should be done with them. Edit: Ignore the 180 change. The more I look back on it the dumber it sounds...

      • Magnificent Howl is the Shot Package of D2. It's ruined Crucible and the only way to balance pvp is to remove it. Will that happen? I highly doubt it. Bungie created a perk that only served to widen the skill gap. It's now a game of the haves and the have nots. The players good enough to get it now have an overpowered weapon at their disposal. This -blam!-ing meta is entirely Bungie's fault but I don't see them ever fixing this because they have completely hamstrung themselves with these pinnacle weapons. They risk losing hardcore players if they ever even attempt to balance it. They won't though.

      • Gotta be honest, stopped reading after "I'm better than 99% of the people crying here". If you honestly believe that your 1% oppinion is a valid oppinion, you need to get in line what balance actually means. It's what makes weapons useable for 99% of the people and makes their weapon of choice competetive, despite pinnacle rewards. The issue isn't Luna's/NF compared to the other weapons and arcetypes, the issue is how easy it is to use, compared to it's strength. Ultra strong weapons like that, should not have such a low skill gab. The aim assist is FAR too strong for a perk that powerful. I've read several suggestions on how to bring it in balance, without nerfing it, but none of them accounts for how easy it is to land headshots in the first place.

        • Asking for a nerf on anything before the next game changing meta in 2 weeks is plain dumb! If you think hand cannons will remain crazy OP once the scouts get another buff and Auto rifles refreshed we’ll wait and see what happens. Polaris lance is already strong, Mida is almost back to shredding people, breakneck, suros and ringing nail will be beast but guardians don’t generally want to try anything other than streamer and YouTube meta as they feel the gun makes them godlike not the actual user thus a meta is born. Bungie are finally doing things right there are no blanket nerfs that destroy not only a gun but an entire archetype both for PVP and PvE. Instead they are looking at very OP crutches like teleso and looking at buffing other viable alternatives so there is choice and not 3 main guns.

            • Honestly if you ONLY reduced the flinch it would be enough. People spray them with impunity knowing you cant fight back because you keep getting popped up.

            • I agree. I only use Luna in comp. Crucible is stagnant and very boring with this Luna meta. Then all those saying Luna requires skill to use will actually have an arguement. Other archetypes need serious help as they simply obsolete at this point.

            • I think a good roled trust can take down Lunas or NF if you get the first shot in. I have Lunas, but not NF because I'm an adult with a life, and my Clan is other successful adults without the time to fireteam up and use the lips to assholes technique famous in D2. Really, they should just bring things back to D1 roles and damage as this rewarded truly skilled players, not people running around with their lips tied to eachothers arses and teabagging afterwards like they're good because they got a kill 3v1. This is why the environment is TOXIC, and most D1 trials players are gone. The majority of D1 that stayed are PVE guys, not the trials guys because running around and getting kills 3v1 is not as satisfying. This stuff didn't happen often in D1 (lets face it, theirs douchebags everywhere). If I get killed 1v1, I don't mind getting the bags, but a 3, 4, 5, or 6 vs 1, come on.

            • I think the underlying problem is the handcannon bloom on console. Everything that isn’t a 180 feels super inconsistent. Your gun fights are full of ghost bullets making it pointless to use anything but a 180 on console.

                  • Perfect, only make the rate of fire of 110s like d1 so they kill in one second, not 1.07s like it is now Ppl who think this post is too much are bad players who rely on ez weapons

                      Don't nerf I don't have LH, but I don't like nerfs at all. Buff other hand cannons for sure.

                      • Magnificient Howl only giving extra precision damage would be a welcome change. And I think handcannons just need less bloom and slightly more range on console.

                        • Imo they dont need nerfs Bygones with kill clip active 2 bursts, trust with explosive blinds, ace runs pc and there are plenty of other good options, nf and lunas are not unbeatable, if they can chain a second headshot the gun becomes far less powerful, if most people knew how to strafe this wouldn't be a problem

                          • I’ve thought about that too, of only giving bonus precision damage, but why can’t we literally just change the rate of fire and decrease it slightly? It’s an easier and more precise way of changing the time to kill. They did it with the Last hope by changing its ROF from 500 to 491. I don’t see why they can’t change 180’s to 190, or 195.

                          • So basically to nerf LH and NF you want to buff all other hand cannons to make them meta? So instead of just seeing LH and NF everywhere we would see all hand cannons! Not a single mention of the fact other guns need bringing up like auto, smg, pulse etc No thanks, I’d rather deal with two over 5-6

                              • Sure, I'll debate. I've commented about this, and made a whole post; so hopefully you haven't seen any of those yet. The basis of my argument is that LH is not OP when compared to any hand cannon with a decent range stat, and that NF is not a problem due to its rarity in the crucible. I don't have a NF and have never used one, so I won't talk about something I have no experience with. I'll instead focus entirely on LH and argue why it's fine where it is. Take a look at the last 10 games I played: https://destinytracker.com/d2/profile/xbl/Never-EZ You'll find that my best game is with the Ace of Spades. You can also see that in comparison to my games with LH, I had more total hand cannon kills when using the Sunshot or Nation of Beasts. My LH games look like my games with my Waking Vigil that has no range perks. Until LH came out, I think we were all in agreement that the most valuable stat on a hand cannon is range. When dealing with a high range Sunshot (w/ catalyst), Ace of Spades, or Sturm (w/ catalyst); we have guns that can handle the majority of ranges on the smaller D2 maps. The LH has such a poor range stat, that it really only holds advantage in this small range bracket in the mid-close range. Any gun with such a small optimal range bracket can be countered with way more ease than something that is consistently good across most ranges. Especially when considering the close range meta that runs the current sandbox. As a sniper, I feast when teams neglect the long ranges with their Dust Rock + Luna setup. As to your proposed changes, I mostly agree with them. However, off my base assumption that LH is fine where it is; I can only see your proposed 180 change as a completely unnecessary nerf to the 180 RPM that already has a poor 1s ttk. i've never seen anyone arguing that Trust needs a nerf. Personally, I would merge the 150's and 140's into a new archetype completely. Put all of the guns into a 145rpm archetype. Keep the lightweight frame for +1 mobility and bonus sprint speed while increasing the damage to be a 2 crit, one body shot kill. Reserve the 140 and 150 archetypes for exotic weapons. Thoughts?

                                  • 2 heads and a toe shot? Thats not how it works, you still need that 3rd headshot to get the kill. The problem is that the hitboxes in destiny are generous already so hitting headshots is easy, players who have the weapon like me don’t have a hard time landing headshots which is frustrating when trying to use different load outs. It doesn’t help that they are 180 rpm hand cannons either since they fire much faster than other hand cannons. The ttk I believe is almost 1.6? Anyways its faster than any primary in the game. Nothing wrong with pinnacle weapons but making them broken was dumb, pinnacle weapons should have the best stats in the game, some good perks but nothing that makes its damage extremely OP.
