I'd be fine with a couple forms of this--You get an item, you can break it into a transmog OR materials. Hell, exotics can be exempt if Bungie wants.
Bungie could also put all the transmogs into Eververse (if they're going to keep it). Fortnite, Overwatch and games like them have proven there's $$$ out there for skins, and they could also be offered for bright dust.
Either way, this is definitely a missed opportunity, because there's a LOT of cool looking stuff that's worthless, and some ugly shit that's really good.

Thank you!! Someone else that gets it, you need to FUND a game you enjoy if you want it to continue. Please let us pay for cosmetics, they do nothing to affect the skill gap and simply allow us to have more choices. Give the non-pay people a way to earn skins occasionally so they don't feel neglected and let those of us willing to pay look as we prefer. Might even give some people items to track down for different reasons!! Pipe dream: Allowing us to run around looking full Exotic, even without the stats I'd like to look like a king if I choose to.

And constant paid DLC isn't already funding the damn game? Pfft.

I bought this game for about $70 with all the DLC because I got the base game for free. (Thanks Bungie!!) Since season 4 (when I started) I've played for almost 700 hours of actual out of orbit play time. Soooo, I'm getting to play for 1 hour at the cost of $0.10. As I continue to log hours for content that has yet to be released but I've already paid for that rate will continue to get better! Play more, get more!! Look anywhere else in the entertainment industry, because that's what this is, and you'll be hard pressed to find a rate any cheaper. They are giving us countless hours of fun for a fraction of a cost and we all complain we don't get more, more, MORE... Also, no one is forced to pay for cosmetics, they do nothing but enhance the way you look. This feature doesn't exist yet meaning no one has paid for it yet. Thus, pay for as much of the feature as you would like. Don't care how you look? Don't pay for anything! If you do care and you have the money to fund Bungie's next chapter by all means buy a cosmetic and look as you please. I added in the line about not leaving no pay players out because that grind for the cosmetic option is another way to increase play time and incentive to do certain activities. There's lots of reasons to implement this policy and very few reasons not to. Weigh the pros and cons and the pros vastly outweigh the cons of adding this option in for the players that choose to use it. It's looking at the game from a business perspective along with a gaming perspective. They need to make money just as much as they need to make us happy, they are walking a fine line like a tightrope and all of us are hoping they don't fall...

Yeah, same (although I prefer The Ram from D1). I wore it until I couldn't justify it any longer.
