I honestly need to know: I played D1 a bunch back in the day and enjoyed it. A few days ago I was in EB games and saw they had the Collectors Edition going for $50, so I sort of splurged and grabbed the last one they had.
The thing is though, I've yet to open it, not even the little outer shell it has because I don't know if it was worth the money? I've just been hearing a lot of flack about the game and after recently joining these forums, it further fueled what I feared.
With most people saying the game is failing, not fun etc, is it honestly worth getting into at this point?
Forgot to mention that I have played the trial version for a bit and did enjoy it.

It's come a ways since launch, but there's still a lot that can be improved on. Forsaken seems like it'll be another several steps forward, but only time will tell on that. It may have been better to wait until closer to September to see if they release a collection edition that includes all of the DLCs, including Forsaken.

If you’ve played D1 DON’T bother playing D2. You’ll only be disappointed.

With Forsaken right around the corner I'd actually say that this might be an ideal time to start playing.

Only you can decide whether you like it or not. Don't let other people decide for you because you won't know for sure until you actually try it. Time to crack it open and get started guardian.

If you liked D1 you’ll like it. It’s a good game and a good time to jump in. Right now there is plenty for you to grind and play while all feeling like new content and then you get the next dlc. If you have any specific questions I can address them.

You’ll definitely have enough to do before Forsaken and not so much time that you’d really burn out imo. If I were you, I’d play through at your own pace and if you ever need direction, work towards the Monents of Triumph

Nah, you've come back to the game at a good time. The game is shining in the PVE area. PVP...well that's a mixed bag right now.
