More ghaul...

He knew exactly what to strike at first, I mean his command ship, not the blood sucker thing that went to the traveler. No he knew to hit the tower and grab the speaker, specifically. How did he know all of this info? I'm not chalking it up to bad story telling, as I feel the answer is some where in the game currently...like in the weapon/armor stories...or some lore tab. For the hell of it, I would like to see how he was taken through the infinite forest, just as a mission to rescue him...it would be another strike...but just to hop in and protect him until you got him away from the fight, and all the way to the farm, far away from the battle. Edit: stuff like war mantis is what I am talking about...they were dancing and the cabal were what? Confused? Also, forget which piece, but we knew the psions that were watching a crucible training were bemused by the guardians complaining...did they go over to them and tell them that it was funny or something? Edit 2: am I the only one that is impressed that the cabal carved a mountain in two...i mean for a base...but still, could've just hollowed it out. Lol just thought it was funny. Last edit (for this post): use the infinite forest to find the stranger.

  • I actually really liked how they developed Ghaul as a character. It would’ve been ballsy, but I would’ve been fine if they developed the consul more and had HIM try to take the power after Ghaul left the system. What I’m not a fan of is how they throw in seemingly random new storylines to make up raids. I prefer the Kings Fall model where we are fighting the final form of who we’ve been after the entire time.

Unrelated: I feel like ghaul was so easy to beat to show that a general is nothing without his army

      • There had to be a traitor feeding him information. I feel like it should be Rahool since I hate him for turning my purple engrams to green. Tess is a prime candidate as well since the invasion lands right where her shop was located, but she mysteriously survived. But it’s SweeperBot! A supposed robotic creature sentenced to a menial task, but with access to every location in the tower and an app running a background program like a virus that fed information to the enemy.

        • Through the Taken King story missions we learn that the Skyburners Legion was ordered to crash their ship into the Dreadnought, kill Oryx, and capture information that might lead to permanent elimination of us Guardians. The Outbound Signal showed that the Skyburners sent a very detailed message to "the head of the Cabal Empire" after they realized that they could not accomplish that objective. Obviously we now know that head was Ghaul. Also the Psion Flayer strike on Mars showed us that the Cabal were capable of accessing, and even hacking Warmind-level systems like our orbital defense grid. Ghaul did his research, he took his time plotting how to take us out. He knocked out our orbital grid quietly, moved his ships in through the cover of a stormfront, and hit us with a blitzkrieg while he went for that one vital point, the Traveller. Ghaul succeeded where the Fallen, Hive, Taken, and Vex failed. The only reason he failed was because we got our Light back. Even then we have no idea what the resurrected Ghaul could have been capable of if the Traveller hadn't obliterated him. Pretty much...we got lucky...this time.

            • Ghaul knew all of that information from the team that crashed the ship into the dreadnaught, If I'm not mistaken that was the whole reason for crashing into it in the first place was because the cabal figured out that they couldn't beat us how things were going with our ability to revive after death, and the hive knew how to perma kill us

            • Shoot, Dead orbit disabled the satellites. Think about it. All that bitch talks about is leaving the tower and moving into space.

              • Remember in the mission Outbound Signal in D1, the cabal sent a VERY detailed message to the Ghual talking about our system and everything they knew about the guardians and the traveler.

                • I wish I had some time to dig around a bit for info, but honestly this question immediately made me think of D1. The Cabal had been staging from there and planning the assault at the beginning of D2 whole time, right? Maybe they finally got what they needed from the computers on Mars to plan and execute their attack.

Obviously they have the capability to compromise tech of ours without us knowing. It's like everyone wasn't paying attention to the intro.
That or how there's an active compromised frame in the tower.
Also psion flayers, and unless I misunderstood they are pretty damn good with tech.

what i'm more confused about was how there were no anti-air defenses set up. You're telling me that the guardians were around for hundreds, if not thousands of years and not one of them thought "wait, what if they come in from above the wall?"

                    • My guess is that none of that stuff was secret and could be discerned from audio and video transmissions bouncing around the solar system. In D1 The Speaker even does a sort of wide-scale "Calling All Guardians" alert for a mission. I don't think The Speaker was hiding or that information security was/is a priority for the city. At least not a priority for undead Guardians.

                        • The tower was betrayed. By dead orbit. They have control of all the satellites and deep space sensors. They were disabled before the assault, which is why we didn't see them until they were on top of the tower. In the grimoire in D1 shaxx mentions that he doesn't trust dead orbit because they would pull guardians aside and talk to them in secret. He thought they were planning something. Dead orbit had the motive too. They have been shouting from the beginning that the city is a death trap, that we have to leave for the stars to survive. What better way to prove that than to see the city destroyed and everyone scattered? I think that dead orbit is the only one to not help in some way to rebuild the city. We were betrayed guardians!

My first thought is intelligence from the d1 days, like most people are saying they had been gearing up for something. I always associate intelligence gathering with stealthiness and somehow the Cabal don't seem like they are nor would they be physically capable... there's always the psions though...

                          • Very good question. I can understand attacking the Tower since it’s in the middle of the last city on Earth ( which was directly under the Traveler, which Ghaul came to Earth specifically for ). I am however very curious as to how Ghaul knew to go after the Speaker, the fact that Ghaul went out of his way to capture the Speaker alive when all the other Guardians that were captured were killed is too coincidental. How did he even know which Guardian was the Speaker? He had to have had an inside source, otherwise it’s a plot hole.

                          • I’d like to think he had information, but I’d never thought about that and I can almost promise you bungee never thought about that. I’d chalk it up to bad story telling.
