SIVA was Criminally Underused

<SIVA is a... hold up here... SELF-ASSEMBLING, SELF-REPLICATING NANOTECHNOLOGY?! What the -blam!-!? That's like the most advanced thing besides the paracausal forces and the Vex! What the shit!? Why wasn't this used more? Oh right, the Splicers didn't know how. Well you know who does? The Warminds. Anyway. SIVA in Rise of Iron was built up as a sort of technological plague. It had spread like a virus and corrupted the land with tendrils covered in prisms making a buzzing sound. The Splicers used it both to improve their bodies, but it usually made them look like escaped science projects. While I think everyone understands that SIVA has a massive potential, I don't think they understand just HOW. To control SIVA, all you have to do is enter in a program to a batch. The batch will then proceed to execute that task. It will do whatever it takes to accomplish it. For example, the command it was given to kill the 9 Iron Lords that made it to the Replication Chamber was ~Replicate, Eliminate, Immunize~ So, the SIVA did what it had to do. It replicated, making hordes of nanites. It eliminated, by clouding up into groups and then splitting apart, aiming for the cracks in the armor of the Iron Lords. It then breached the skin and took control, even using an Iron Lord's body against another, in an attempt to kill the intruders. It immunized... it learned. What's interesting about SIVA is that, despite what we're told, it seems to... WANT. It seems to have some kind of mind on its own... perhaps because it learns.
I can feel the mites buzzing, pushing against my sub-mind. They try to steal fragments of memory, but I do not let them. They have no will, but they want to BE. I exert electronic will: pushing, shaping. Forcing stasis on perpetual motion. They are quiet then, but I can still sense them.
Do you know what's even better? It can create/recreate anything non-organic. I don't think anybody payed too much attention to the fact that Sepiks got VAPORIZED and then CAME BACK, FULLY FUNCTIONAL literally TEN SECONDS later. The Splicers were right. If used to its full potential, then SIVA can quite literally make you gods of the technological age. The power to create ANYTHING at ANYTIME. AND NOBODY USED IT. You can do SO MUCH with SIVA. Look at the water in the Replication chamber. It's RED. SIVA is crawling through it. It can infect WATER. The shields that every boss in WotM has are made with SIVA. Splicer Captain legs are made with SIVA. You can do more. You can replicate Cabal ships. You can let SIVA into your enemies' bloodstreams and control their movements. You can make entire cities in an hour. You can build ships in minutes. The Wrath of the Machine armor is MADE OF SIVA. We built armor with that stuff! You can do practically everything with it. If only the Splicers knew how to use the damn thing.>

          • I didn't care for the SIVA storyline at all. It was the same as D2's core story: "Hey, rather than explore the things about Destiny that were interesting, let's tweak the existing assets and cone up with something that doesn't require us to fix all our narrative hiccups. "

            • There will probably be something on siva later since the exodus black had some on it Also I remember seeing a nightfall preview of d2 had a strike of the fallen finding siva and using on a captain though I’m not sure where the image is There is also a image in the recently released concept art that looks a lot like siva

            • It appears the tech was programed by rasputin. It appears it went rogue though, either that or something happened to rasputin post iron lord massacre that caused rasputin to lose the ability to modify the orders of siva.

SIVA was billed as this... Creeping, lovecraftian elder deity like force that devoured and corrupted all that came near it... It is even implied a few times that while the splicers think they are using it, that rather, Siva is using them, and they just don't realize... It's frankly criminal had bad the story telling has been in this series. 1. To get at any actual story content you had to read the grimoire and that required you to go on a website instead of being in game. 2. Even if you read the grimoire, most of it is bland and banal. So many magnificent story telling opportunities wasted...... AND WHY THE HELL DO THE HIVE SPEAK ENGLISH?! Through savagery and cruelty did the king of the hive take his throne... Then you kill his brat and he takes the time to learn the kings English so he can banter at you in person

                    • Yes EXACTLY! I finished the RoI campaign and I was like '....seriously, thats all??'. SIVA is an incredibly powerful tool yet NO ONE at Bungie figured out how to use it properly in Destiny.

                      • I just assumed (big mistake on my part at this point based on the 1st D2 DLC being a disaster despite finally giving us one of the most sought after and knowledgeable characters in all of Destiny Lore) that they would be returning to SIVA at some point later. I mean how could you NOT, it's pretty much like you said one of the most useful and limitless technological wonders available to the Warminds if anybody. Bungie had some clues in concept art that SIVA would return in D2, especially in/around Nessus. That terrible strike we got with the big ass Vandal was supposed to be a SIVA strike, but got changed/scrapped. I previously thought the 2nd DLC may bring SIVA back presumably under the control of either one of the not-yet introduced Warminds, or as a risk/enemy to them. But at this point trusting Bungie with such common-sense and assumable ideas isn't a good idea in-and of itself.

                      • I think it should have been involved in the D2 story. Guardians could have attempted to use it until they got their light back.

                      • Maybe Siva can return us our heavy machine guns, random rolls and maybe give us a 4th weapon slot then give us an advanced skill tree. then we might care more about this game!

                        • couldn't agree with you more. SIVA had some fantastic potential that has been criminally underused thus far. one thing i never understood about it though was that if SIVA is indeed self replicating then what was the point of destroying its production facility at the conclusion of the rise of iron storyline, did I miss something?
