The problem with this post is many of the players from year 1, the beginning, have watched this game evolve into something great over the last 4 years. The fun we had was in those awesome pieces of gear, the powerful exotics and the useful gear. The grind was the fun part and it was tough, but it was fun. They made the game more fun along the way and did almost everything right.
When D2 comes out and the players who put thousands of hours into the original Destiny come to find that all of the things we came to love in Destiny were gone and that there was even less to do and less choice of what to do and less to grind takes away from our wanting to play the game. It was sad to see the forum become so hateful. But it is honestly just tough love. Some of the people that have been here since the beginning are truly heartbroken, and they have every right. They took almost all of the things we sought after in Destiny and threw it away. Scrapped almost everything Destiny really was and made an almost completely different game. If this had been the first installment of the franchise, Destiny may have not been as long term as it became.
Edit: Just wanted to say thank you to all who have shared your thoughts. I didn’t want this post to be seen as negative, but more as to how I feel about Destiny right now. I am glad to have the conversation continue as we pray for Bungie to come to the realization we want to still stay loyal to Destiny, but if we have to may walk away.

Agreed

D2 broke my heart. Waste of 100$
-
1 Reply"Heartbroken"? Not the word I would use. "Enraged" seems closer to the mark.
-
Must suck being a fan of Destiny who stuck around playing hardcore. Bungie abandoned you guys.
-
6 RepliesThe biggest kick in the junk is that there didn't need to be a destiny 2.

1 ReplyBump, Agree I don’t have thousands of hours. Just close to 1k. They took the magic out by giving it all away. It’s so unbelievable to me that they totally changed the way you progress, the rewards, the PVP modes etc. It’s a holllow husk of what it was, even though D1 was flawed in many ways. I hardly ever posted on the Forums.....too busy playing!.....now I do to get my voice heard....even if it is salty, because I loved the game and want it back.

I️ had 3000+ hours in D1 and quit two weeks into playing D2.... sad to see it come to this

43 RepliesEdited by bardo: 11/7/2017 9:43:27 PMNearly every complaint about Destiny 2 from Destiny 1 players comes down to this: Is it reasonable to compare Destiny 1 with 3 years of updates and 4 expansions to vanilla Destiny 2? I mean, I understand that it's logical to expect a sequel to be better... But if you compare vanilla Destiny 2 to vanilla Destiny 1, it IS better. WAY better. Anyone who says otherwise is wearing the thickest rose color glasses ever manufactured. That's not to say we shouldn't complain about Destiny 2's shortcomings. But can we please start from a place of reasonable perspective? "I enjoyed X about Destiny 1. Destiny 2 would be so much better with X." - is constructive. "The lack of X in Destiny 2 is mind boggling and completely ruins the game! Not to mention it killed my grandmother and started World War 3!" - not so much.

27 RepliesDestiny 1 was a Skinner Box and gambling simulator. A behavioral specialist was even hired to help ensure players were logged on as long as possible. D2 has a much more ethical and healthier approach. Unfortunately, the damage has already been done. Destiny 1 addicts with 3500+ hours of slot machine time are not getting their dopamine fix from D2's system. Their meth has been replaced with Five Hour Energy. Their smack replaced with methadone. Anyone can see the symptoms of withdrawal posted all over these forums. The game is not perfect but Bungie is listening as evidenced by the bullet points in last week's TWAB. Seems like some haven't read it yet because points keep being brought up that have already been addressed. If you can't wait for these changes to be implemented, there are plenty of other games out there to play in the meantime. This concept seems to be foreign to the addicts though and that is just sad.

1 ReplyIt is heartbreaking to see the huge step back. I haven’t played in weeks. My longest break ever...

Bump I had no idea they would make it even worse

5 RepliesOver the past year, something interesting has happened to the gaming industry. It’s not an entirely new phenomenon, but it’s certainly more important than it ever has been before. We, as players and consumers, have found ways to actually hold game developers accountable. This past year has seen some of the biggest flops in gaming history. Many large studios and publishers have experienced the dangers of ‘overhyping’ first-hand. We’ve seen fairly decent games be hailed as the next big thing before they get released, but if it fails to meet fan expectations, community retribution can be quick and, in some cases, vicious. We’ve also seen some massive flops, and witnessed hordes of extremely angry customers. But for once, we’re holding game developers accountable for the promises they make. Gamers have also matured as consumers. With the internet making communication so easy, and more widespread cultural acceptance of gaming as a hobby, it’s no longer acceptable to us when companies lie or ignore us. Just like any consumer, our biggest vote is with our dollar. However, word of mouth plays a large part, and we do our part for good–and bad–developers alike. fantastic article https://esportsedition.com/general/2017-is-the-year-of-game-developer-accountability/

8 RepliesFound a great article from Sept 2016. "...Activision subsidiary studio, Vicarious Visions, is also working on the game, though in what capacity is currently unknown. Destiny 2 is planned to feel like a new game, rather than an expansion. It will ditch older planets and characters, as well as introducing a lot of new content and activities for players. A big change we're told will come to pass is the game feeling more populated. Instead of isolated outposts, players will be able to navigate cities and settlements, so there could also be a lot more NPCs in Destiny 2. PlaySpaces will be so much bigger too. Just the Saturn playspace in Destiny 2 will be larger than all playspaces in Destiny 1. Destiny 1 content will likely return to the game in the future as a bit of a throwback for players or as a way to expand on what's available for new gamers to the franchise." So, besides Bungie working on Destiny, there's 2 other studios. http://www.vvisions.com/ and Activision threw in some of it's own

This is really a sequel for vanilla destiny, as if all the expansion and the progress made in that time have not really contributed to much. My biggest hope for destiny 2 was to build more on the RPG elements of the game. Make Titans true tanks, warlocks true space wizards, and hunters agile glass cannons. But no they’ve gone the complete opposite direction. They’ve watered down the game to make it more casual friendly. But just like when you water anything down all it does is make things weaker.

8 RepliesTotally agree with this. I'm one of those people who have 1000s of hours in destiny 1 and just expected more from d2. I haven't played d2 in 3 weeks because simply there is nothing for me to do. Yes I will return for the expansions as I have already paid for them.( Not a fan of returning exotics, it's cheap as lazy). But I will never preorder a destiny game again, where before I was 1st out the gate to play and power level for end game. I will wait for reviews of what expansions entail and decide if I want to purchase or not.

TLDR: Those of us that quit and criticize the game. Do it because we love it and want to come back. We are just heartbroken because of the piss poor effort at a rinse and repeat sequel the devs gave.

4 RepliesI miss the Destiny I fell head over heels in love with. To say it was a perfect love is a lie but it was my passion...I just couldn't stay away.

Edited by MRwUGz: 11/8/2017 9:20:38 AMI wasted money on far worse games to be fair , the only problemz with D2 I have is that stupid timer on nightfall , that the raid sucks and that there is no level cap increase , all of this can be fixed , I didn't mention crucible because that game mode is irrelevant for me

2 RepliesEdited by Inskey_: 11/7/2017 10:10:37 PMI'm not mad about D2 as much as I am the blatant fact we are nothing but numbers. This game wasn't made for us, or for our enjoyment. It was made for the most profits with the least amount of effort. Twice now we were sold on one thing, and given a gutted version of it so they could drip feed us for more money. With the sequel suddenly it's not an MMORPG journey but a collection game instead. Talk about a 180. Name one other game that is a AAA title, with paid DLCs AND microtransactions, that forces you to interact with the cash shop every day you log in. (bright engram gains per level - that can only be decrypted by the cash shop. Instead of, you know, the cryptarch, who's entire existence is literally to decrypt engrams) Microtransactions are supposed to exist to make money for content. Fair enough. DLCs are also supposed to exist to make money for content. Again, fair enough. This is the richest publisher in gaming history, the guys that made the -blam!-ing halo franchise, and they have BOTH feeding this franchise, and yet we have zero meaningful content. Think about it. And now we have seasonal loot, so every couple months just toss all the shit you spent money on last month in the garbage and get ready to spend more. But don't worry! You can totally get them all naturally! Just ask the guy with 30 of the same cloak and 20 of the same ship. RNG is RNG, right?

3 RepliesOh man if only there was some device used to dry up tears and snot, if one exisited I would hand you one.

8 RepliesEdited by Southern4x4: 11/7/2017 2:31:29 PMI've been gaming since the Atari/Sega days and have spent hours in coin arcades (hours that would add up to months - maybe years). That being said... Destiny was the best game I've ever played. On the other hand, Destiny 2 has been the worst sequel I've ever seen. I still play it and enjoy playing with friends but compared to D1 - D2 sucks. I put over 5k hours into D1. I find myself struggling to find the "want to" to even turn D2 on. It's a watered down boring PoS to be honest. All that D2 has accomplished is this: I will never preorder any game of any type. The next DLC better be a showstopper because it'll be a game ender for me if not. I won't wait for 2nd and 3rd DLC's - I'll delete the game and never look back. The fact that they had everything so right and then they pull a 180 and drop a turd still has me clueless.

6 RepliesOMG guys! I have figured it out. I'm thinking, Bungie has lost it. I can't believe they put this garbage out. I read several articles online about how Activision, and the 10 year contract, requires Bungie to put something out on tight deadlines. Good, bad, or ugly, something must be released. They even threaten Bungie and employees in losing stock options if they are late. Then it hit me. PRINCE! The name change was an irritation tactic. Prince never came out and said he was trying to anger Warner Bros. music division with the name change. But he hinted as much many times, and the fact that he returned to using the name Prince in 2000 — after he'd been released from his contract — suggests that this was the reason for the name change all along. Bungie is sabotaging themselves in hopes of getting out of the contract! It is the only logical explanation. No company would willingly release a product at this sub-par level unless intentionally. Now it makes sense!
This is an obligatory post about me telling you, yes you, how much D2 sucks and how much better D1 is. Shocking isn't it? It's not like you've already read 1,000 other posts like mine but I'm telling you, my post is a special post. You see it uses the same points everyone else has made about why the game sucks except I take those same points and use them over and over again! Pretty neat huh? Oh did I tell you I'm a year 1 veteran from D1? Well now you know because you definitely needed to know that little bit of information about me and how long I've been playing Destiny. I know you all definitely care about all of this. You guys want to know the best part about all this? Of course you do! Well the best part is that even though I say I hate this game, I'm still gonna play it and just keep on making posts like these on the forums because I'm a big hypocrite! Playing other games? Pffffft right. Whoever came up with that idea is in need of mental help... I'm just going to keep on complaining about a game that I continue to play and you all are going to have to deal with it! Obligatory Edit: Obligatory edit stating that we are trending even though the post most likely isn't trending. Second Obligatory Edit: Second obligatory edit exclaiming the posts success despite the post being uninteresting and most likely unsuccessful (Example: HOLY HELL COZMO AND DEEJ GOTTA SEE THIS THANKS FOR THE 1000000 UPDOOTS). Third Obligatory Edit: Third obligatory edit involving TL;DR because this is a somewhat long post so I'd thought I'd express for all of you. Also, I will use this edit to show you guys that even my favorite Destiny streamer agrees and dislikes D2 because yes. link Fourth Obligatory Edit: Fourth obligatory edit blaming Deej and Cozmo for all of D2's problems despite them only being community managers and actually not having very much power to solve many issues with game. Also -blam!- you Luke Smith because you're obviously a big issue too even though I have no real reason to say you're a big issue. "If only they would listen to us loyal players." Fifth Obligatory Edit: Fifth obligatory edit demanding Bungie for a fusion rifle nerf and to buff Dubious Voll- I mean Wardcliff Coil.
2 RepliesThe things done better in D1 The idea of faction rally’s are cool and all, but I hate the restrictions. I would prefer the old system, where I pledge allegiance and get reputation gradually. But then add faction rally’s and this time they offer exclusive loot in addition to the normal stuff. Shaders should not be used up. Solution: keep the system, but make shaders have unlimited uses like they used to, and don’t cost glimmer to switch around. To compensate for this, make shaders much rarer. Strike exclusive loot. Why is it gone? Bring it back! Glimmer in Crucible rewards... I’m constantly broke because I’m a Crucible player, instead of adding difficulty, this was just annoying. Shouldn’t have been taken out. Private matches... Same story, why?! Rumble... Once again why is it gone? If you want to keep your little 4 formula happy, just make it 8 FFA or 4 FFA. Rift? Where’d that go. I thought rift was A LOT more tolerable than supremacy. Speaking of, choosing Crucible gamemodes. I’m a lot more hesitant to play Crucible when there’s a chance I’ll load into a supremacy match. Instead of a quickplay playlist, make a quickplay category, and we select the gamemode we want.

Im gutted, devistated d2 is crap and made deej etc rich beyond his wildest dreams, its so wrong
