Resurrection or Destruction

Reyn watched in horror as the purple spikes embedded in the Titan’s armor exploded, and the Guardian dissolved into void energy. His ghost fled and hung in air. Reyn knew if he tried to reach it and help, he would be cut down by the enemy fire. He reloaded his custom modified Cocytus SR-4, courtesy of Banshee. A tower gunship roared overhead, and Reyn glanced up to see small arms fire ricocheting off its armor. Reyn popped up, peering down his sights. He quickly targeted and Awoken soldier and fired twice. The first round popped the shields, and the second tore into the soldier's chest. He fell back out of sight. Auto rifle burst out in Reyns direction, he ducked, but his shields were cut by over half by a smattering of rounds. There was no way the tower would hold at this point. Reyn shook his head. It had to. There was no way this treachery would overthrow the Vanguard. Besides, the Guardians were stronger than the soldiers that comprised the Armies of the Reef. Even the Queen’s guard couldn’t stand up to a Guardians light in single combat. But some Awoken Guardians sided with their people, and not with the Tower. That was what worried Reyn, because it would be very hard to tell the difference soon, and the betrayal would be deadly. Gunfire was a constant noise in the air, cracks of sharp thunder, and rapid fire snaps. A roar built overhead as a FWC fighter screamed over the city, chased by two Awoken fighters. Reyn watched a rocket climb from somewhere amongst the buildings and chase the leftmost Awoken gunship. It exploded with a sharp burst of orange flame, rocking the spacecraft. THe fighter veered, but corrected it’s course, smoke now trailing from i’s engines. The FWC ship veered back towards the tower, seeking the help of the heavy guns in the structure. It never made it. Purple gunfire lanced into it, from one Awoken ship, then the next. The fuselage burst aflame. The gunfire persisted, and the fighter dipped into a dive, shattering itself in the depths of the city. Reyn scowled. He slid out of cover from his right side. He spotted a trio of Awoken rushing towards a building ahead, firing their rifles into its windows. Reyn’s rifle spat it’s liquid rounds. Two of them fell. The third rolled into cover, and blindly returned fire with his auto rifle. Reyn let two rounds bounce off his restored shields. He broke into a run, shouldering his rifle. He vaulted over the pile of wreckage the soldier had shielded himself behind and slammed into the soldier. The Awoken rifle shouted, and Reyn felt several rounds impact his shields, cutting them almost down. Reyn’s knife ended the stream of bullets and the soldier's life. There was two sharp clacks, and a round punched into Reyn’s chest piece. He snapped his attention to the Awoken warrior leveling a scout rifle at him. Without hesitation he shade stepped forward and drew his sidearm. Coming out of the roll he fired three rounds. All three impacted the soldier's chest armor, knocking him back a step, and deterring his aim. A fourth round punched through his helmet and the soldier crumpled. Reyn broke back towards his left where the fallens Titan ghost still lingered. As he approached there was a pop, and the ghost exploded around a sniper round that tore through it. Reyn’s stomach dropped. He shade stepped. Another sniper round tore through the air where he had just been standing. Taking in his surroundings he spied the scope glint of the rifle still trained on him. Breaking into a run he set his sights on the remainder of a building ahead, that would grant him shelter from the guns wrathful gaze. He shade stepped again. Almost there. He ran faster and jumped, double jumped, aiming for the second floor. He never made it, never heard the fourth crack. His Ghost dropped from his lifeless body, determined to mark its Guardians remains until. And there it would hang, vigilant. Until resurrection, or destruction. Whichever came first.
