Colovance's Duty

The wind was fierce, Colovance stood in front of them. His normally neat hair was blowing everywhere, his hands trembled. They all knew, then, what was happening here. They both knew what he was going to do, they both knew it was too late to take it back. He had made this decision hours ago. “Don't.” She whispered, her voice trembled. “Please, don't.” He smiled, a little bit, “I have to.” He said. “Let me.” Nirwen insisted, taking a step towards him but hesitating, as if taking a step would cause him to run anyways. “I was the one who brought you into this, this isn't your destiny.” “But it is.” He replied, “the City needs Nirwen, you're the one who led us to this point. Without you none of us would have got here, this attack would have happened and we wouldn't be prepared for it. None of us would even know any of this was happening. Without you we wouldn't have met Isildur, and she's the reason why we know so much now. The City, the Traveler, needs you. This is my duty to the City.” “I need you.” Deidris cut in, he couldn't see her expression but knew that it was pained. “I need you to stay here, we can think of another way.” And he knew how much it pained her to say, by asking him to stay she was asking someone else to go in his place. One life for another. “There isn't.” He said. “I've tried. I've calculated everything, the only way to stop this is to get inside it and destroy it. There's electricity in the air, it'll fuel me. It'll give me enough power to destroy it.” And destroy himself in the process. It had been Nirwen who asked him to join the Wolves after they finished their sparrow racing season. He hadn't joined because he wanted to but because he had asked him to. Colovance turned to Nirwen, then, walking towards him and clasping his hand tightly. He could feel that tremble that told him his friend was scared. “Thank you for everything.” He said, “good-bye, it's been an honour being your friend.” He chose action instead of words; he pulled his friend into a hug, unable to even form the words to say good-bye. They stepped back from each other, and Colovance turned to her. She was too brave for him to consider the wetness of her cheeks as crying. She was too strong, too powerful, yet she was falling into his arms and he just held her. He didn't listen to the last words exchanged between lovers, they weren't for him and he had no place interfering. He kissed her, his hands cupping her face and hers gripping his robes tightly. She pulled the strip of cloth from her waist and tied it above the bond he wore on his upper arm like a lady's favour; but Colovance wasn't going to come back from this. One more last kiss, one more lingering touch, and he backed away from her. He climbed over the railing and stood for a moment at the edge of the tower, he turned to them again, smiled, and with his arms open wide he let himself fall. His ship rocketed out, a blast of fire behind it as it sped towards the thing that had been protecting them for so long. He put an arm around his titan friend, who buried her head in his shoulder for a moment, before turning again to the sight in front of them. They stood at the railing, wind in their hair, watching the little ship disappear inside of the large crack that was the disintegrating Traveler. The deafening explosion that followed blinded them.
Disclaimer Rise of Iron has hints of the Iron Wolves, I'm super excited! So far we've only heard about Colovance, Deidris, and Bretomart. Out of six possible outcomes, I got four right. Deidris is female, but she isn't a Titan. Bretomart is a Titan, but is female instead of male. I got Colovance correct - male warlock. As of yet I don't know if I will be changing Bretomart's gender to fit the in-game lore. However, I will continue on with this project as I have exciting prospects lined up, and these drawings may take me there. Colovance's flavour text on his artifact is pretty much spot-on to what I wrote for him. I'm honestly just so thrilled. Thanks everyone for the support, these are officially part of an AU universe. One final note, if you were buying this, how much would you be willing to pay? As a side note(whoops too many notes), I know lots of people like wolves and my clan is called "Wolves on Mars", with the tag [WOLF] on emblems. I know I see a lot of wolfy names, so if anyone wants to wear a wolf banner while moving into RoI, come join. https://www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Detail/1516197 Iron Wolves Master Thread Click here for an amazing piece of work by someone who I promised I'd link to when I finished this drawing My Website
