How to improve pvp skill

I want to improve my pvp skills. Is there a game type where I can practice my skills. Or does anyone have some tips and tricks to improve pvp skill?

  • Its not just about gun skill. You will need map awareness which you only get from playing on the maps. Map awareness is knowing where your team is without having to look where they are all the time and knowing that if they push a certain area the spawns will swap. People with good map awareness will always put themselves in a position on the map which has them at an advantage BUT they will also know that if they push where the other person can move to and if the area they are trying to rush is to risky or not. Just keep practising.

  • Planet destiny had a good video on this, the best tip is don't die. Avoid bad situations and don't push if you don't know you can win

  • Record you gameplay and watch it to see where you died and how you couldve stayed alive longer. Rumble also really helps you learn how to appropriately engage 1v1s

  • Rumble IMO, it will help improve gun skill, radar awareness, and learning how to set yourself up to win engagements. Even though I hate rumble probably the best to get better.

      • It can't be stressed enough, watch your radar...unless you see red or are about to walk off a cliff you should always be watching it. Also, don't run everywhere. Running is a voluntary action for a reason. Walk, watch your radar, and you'll do fine.

        1. Start recording and watching your gameplay, you will pick up on bad habits you should be avoiding 2. Try to use cover whenever available during gun fights, if it seems like you are going to lose the fight duck into cover, recover your health and try again or run away. It isn't a must that you must kill that particular opponent 3. Always play the meta, use the weapons that kill the fastest cos your opponents are using the same, sure you can always try to have fun and use other weapons but there's a reason people mostly use last word, mida, hawksaw, grasp of malok etc. Join them 4. Stick to a subclass and master it, get used to how to efficiently use your grenades, melees and supers. If you are shotgunning get into the habit of immediately meleeing after a shot 5. Always pay attention to your radar, you see a red bar increasing quickly, think 2 things a. Shotgunner/aggressive player b. Shoulder charging titan, immediately start backing off/jumping away while shooting if you aren't using a shotgun or last word 6. Use vertical space, especially when turning corners, everyone and their grandmom is hardscoped around corners these days, jump when turning corners to catch most of them by surprise. Jump around when fighting against opponents especially where there isn't cover 7. Play with players that are far better than you and watch how they move and play In all don't get salty as you try to improve incrementally and remember no matter how good you are, there's someone always better. So some games you will get totally destroyed and some you will destroy others, just replay your recorded games and make it a point to check the habits that get you killed more often Also for decision making and gunskill practice play lots of rumble. To practice and ease into sniping play control

Rumble and control. Rumble so you can figure out what guns are best for you and to figure out a playstyle. Control so you can figure out how to play with a team if you play solo, so when iron banner comes around you have an heads up.

        • Id say play rumble but id say go with control. Like people have been saying use meta weapons. Unless you start getting good, then you can switch to a weapon you like. Use cover Stay out of the open as much as possible. Pay attention to the radar. Run if you are outgunned. Dont start a gun fight if your in a terrible position.

            • Play people better than you and figure out what works for you. Every game is different. So you must adapt to every game, every play style and always learn when you get killed.

            • Watch top tier pvp streamers that are great trials players/sweat players. There is a tournament coming up this weekend id recommend watching it you might pick up a few tricks in movement and positioning and map knowledge/callouts. Also play alot of rumble you'll learn to win your 1's and how to survive a majority of situations.

I'm only a PvP scrub to give great advices about Crucible, but since I started playing Iron Banner my PvP skills improved. I'm a solo player so I play it through matchmaking but I was always able to get to rank 5 before last day. It's important to choose weapons that fit the PvP playstyle. Usually I play with a Scout Rifle or a Auto Rifle as primary and a Shotgun as secondary and rarely use a Heavy Weapon (only when some Iron Banner bounty demands it). If you like to use your supers frequently you must equip a armor that increase the Intellect meter. If you rely more on grenades then increase the Discipline meter. Strenght is for Melee and in my opinion is rarely used in PvP (at least I don't use it that much). Choose one kind of PvP activity that is more "friendly". I would go for Control. Watch some videos before to get familiar with some tips. If twelve guardians seems too confusing, then go for Rumble and play smart. Also be prepared for frustration until getting better... a lot. Use those matches to get familiar with the maps, knowing your surroundings and your position in a given map is a huge part of improving your PvP skills. And practice, practice, practice, that's how you will get better. And that's when you'll start having fun in PvP. Just my 2 cents. Stay cool guardian :)

            • I'm still not great, but I'm a lot better than I was. Most of this I learnt doing the thorn bounty on my hunter. Go into clash or control and focus on not dying. Don't worry about how many kills you get, just focus on not dying. Still play the game and try to get kills, but take cover before you die. Over time you'll learn when you can push and when not to. Find a weapon or weapon type you are comfortable with. Most weapon types have established "OP" - use that to start with. Hang back and follow others. Try to be behind or with 2 others. Team shooting will help get you kills and assists, and you're more likely to survive. If they take cover then you should too. Learn from what they do. If you're 1v1 and don't shoot first, you're going to lose the encounter. Try to always have superior numbers. If you see 2 enemy and you're by yourself, circle around to join up with your team. Learn the maps. Where the sniper lanes are, choke points, paths that people always use to move around and where you can ambush (or be ambushed). Use your radar. If you move around a little you can tell if it is showing 1 enemy or multiple. When you know the maps use this to your advantage. Keep playing. Don't lose heart if you're getting rekt. Some people pick pvp up quickly, some don't.

              • Use cover and vertical space. A lot. Record games, particularly ones that go badly and watch them to see what you could do better. Then implement this in future games. Don't play tired. Case in point, my last 5-6 games have all been around a 0.5kd. This is because I've been grinding Doubles. All frickin' day. Blasted grimoire!
