I was recently on a cruise ship, sitting and enjoying a glass of bourbon and watching people pass nearby and the waves roll past a little further away and was approached by a cocktail waitress.
She was very nice, explained that she was from Croatia, and that she really liked my beard. Her English was sufficient for us to make small talk and joke a bit, when the she looked around, smiled and said to me, "In my country, do you know what we call a man without a beard?" I said that I was sorry and didn't know the customs of her nation. She smiled and replied "A woman. I like your beard very much,"
Of course she got great tips from me for the rest of the cruise.

I've had similar experiences with German women.

Edited by Divine Thunder2: 10/3/2015 3:56:55 PMShe's 100% right, men without beards are not men at all. Also, where did you go on a cruise to?
-
Pacific Northwest. Seattle, Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Southern Alaska, Victoria Canada, the Yukon and points in between.
-
Did you stop by a place called Prince Rupert by any chance? Or Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Island)?
-
Nope, time and stops were limited. But there is so much more that I now want to go back and see. The cruise only did the southernmost portions of Alaska. I want to see more, much much more, of the entire region. It was like being on a planet untouched by humanity.

Mhmm. You'd love Hadai Gwaii then. Nice little island with just maybe 30-500 max people per community. Went there this past summer with the family, drove up and down the island in full visiting all the villages, and taking frequent strolls on the beach. Even went to a mini-island through a 20 minute ferry boat ride, to a tiny village full of retired elders. Easily the most isolated, yet peaceful I've ever felt during my short stay there. The trip was topped off with a wedding for some of our friends, which had a very unique aboriginal peoples feel to it to get a taste of the culture there. Would definitely recommend a visit there if you happen to make another trip around the northwest region.

It must have been very beautiful, and cold.
-
It was (most times) in the high 30's low 40's and wet. Which is cold, but a different kind of cold and for some people can feel colder than say 0 and no humidity.

I've done a similar cruise. Holland America?
-
Each time we made port and many times while at sea, there was a Holland America ship within view. But we were on the Norwegian Jewel.
