Dragon's Breath Buff Ideas

Hey guys, I've noticed that among the Destiny community, the exotic launchers have been placed into pretty distinct tiers. Gjallarhorn is the obvious choice for PvE boss fights, while Truth's tracking and proximity detonation make it quite powerful in PvP. However, I never hear any talk about Dragon's Breath apart from how it doesn't quite stack up to the other launchers. Honestly, I can't blame you guys. The lack of tracking coupled with the slow velocity make it less than ideal for a lot of situations, and the signature solar flare seems to be of limited usefulness. So, I feel that it would help bring the weapon into its own if it were improved in certain areas that it lacks in while making its strong points more noticeable. -Improve the Solar flair; make it last longer, and/or make it apply solar damage over time. This should help its exotic perk feel more special. -Increase the velocity of the rockets to help negate its lack of tracking. -Stack its exotic perk with Sunsinger Warlock perks/exotics (i.e. Sunbreakers, Viking Funeral, etc.) Patience & Time already fills the same role as the BladeDancer's invisibility perks, and with the class specific weapons mentioned in the upcoming Taken King expansion I think it would be a nice touch to make the Dragon's Breath fill its niche more fully. Catering to a certain class might help give it an edge against the other, arguably more powerful launchers. Maybe it increases the length of an applied burn, or even spawns a second solar flare. It would make it a weapon fit for a sunsinger, giving the weapon and the class more utility (not the the sunsinger is lacking, but it'd still be cool) -Adjust the perk so it also turns potential victims into solar flares like a beefed up bloom effect. This one is kinda crazy, but imagine hitting a boss of some sort and all of the minions at his feet turn into weapons against him. That'd be freakin' rad! These are just a few ideas on how to make Dragon's Breath more viable in the future. Lemme know what you guys think.

  • I couldn't agree more with this. It's not really an exotic feeling gun. But if it did lingering burn damage and had a greater velocity, that'd make it sooo much better

  • So what if the gun naturally had 3 rockets in the mag and it gets replaced by grenades and horseshoes then instead of leaving a solar grenade upon detention what if it was changed to a fire bolt grenade that has the same dps but instead everything in the blast radius gets the burn effects. So that improves the gun and makes it more useful

  • This weapon is super fun to use. And super hard to hit something with. Most of the time I have the time to kill the thing after firing the rockets before it lands on it.

  • No tracking. Max velocity. Done.

  • -Add tracking -make the solar grenade sticky -make the solar grenade explode after its done 1 or 2 of these would be good. All 3 would make it the next gjallahorn

  • i think they should just make the solar grenade it drops be 'sticky' and stick to enemies you directly hit with it for big DoT's. the main problem with it now is no tracking and as soon as the solar nade pops it pushes enemies out of the flare so they don't take damage. i do like the idea you mentioned about it picking up on viking funeral though, i might actually use it on my warlock if that stacked on it

  • Crazier idea. Turn it into a shotgun launcher that instead of one rocket: Fires a small cluster that each leaves it's own Solar flair on the ground. Makes it a tad closer to that of a "breath" of fire having a more cone-like attack that leaves fire everywhere. Also to give more relevence, make Gjallarhorn Arc.

    • The rocket launcher doesn't need a buff. It is easily as good as Gjallarhorn against most boss enemies and is an excellent weapon for zoning in PvP and PvE. The only reason people harp on Dragon's Breath is because of their bias against it.

      • Option 1: Flamethrower. KILL EVERYTHING DEAD> BURN IT ALL MWUHAHAHA Option 2: increase mag size to 7 (14-21 capacity) - "rapid fire" mini solar flares in quick succession (maybe full auto?) - mess around huge area.

      • Can't they just change it into a flamethrower?

        • How about, launching rounds in close proximity to one another causes burn damage to stack due to intense heat. So, for bosses you could have a potential for 2x-3x burn damage if they don't move around too much.

        • Love the idea, but I think it would be overkill if enemies turned into solar flares. If they exploded like the brimstone perk for the sunsinger when killed by the impact of the rocket, then it would be a bit less overkill and a lot more balanced. But hey, my opinion!
