Trials matchmaking

The matchmaking in trials is broken ... when bungie brought back solo queuing I was so happy I played and went flawless for the first time and I did it without any help from friends or clanmates ... the first two weeks of the solo thing were amazing I only matched ppl of my own skill level and then bungie made win based matchmaking and after that it's never need the same ... first two games of a card and awesome I match ppl of my skill level.. but once I get to the third game I just match the most sweaty ppl out there who then go on to the lighthouse its so sad and demoralizing

  • Trials is currently made for pc cheaters and try hards, dont play until they do skillbased matchmaking. Anyone arguing against my point is one of the 2 above

    • Trials should have SBMM. It’s weird that teams go to the lighthouse while playing dumpster teams. It’s nonsense. It’s an end game pvp mode so it should have SBMM like every other ranked mode.

      • I had a yearning to try for a Summoner, so, into Freelance I went. As a 0.2’% Senior Citizen guardian, I was in it for bounty / match completions, and a bit of fun. Once I’d figured out a load out that suited me - Messenger / Jotun / rocket, away we went. I was very aware that I was a burden to my team mates, though I did have one or two good moments. I am a Trials / PvP yellow belt; most of my team mates were blue/brown/black belts. The majority of the teams I played against were gilded, Unbroken / Flawless ninjas. After about 3 hours of play, I’d completed the weekly Trials bounty, and a bunch of single bounties; the Summoner dropped, and I exchanged engrams for a few more; I also got the scout rifle - nice! I did try switching out my weapons - for specific bounties, but it never went well. Half the time, I couldn’t even get a sniper shot off because they were too fast and I was too slow; HCs - I was dead before I could pull the trigger; although Summoner was a hoot to use! I did make some progress on map awareness and the likely angles to avoid, and the flow…and, mercifully, most matches were over very quickly, especially when a team m8 quit early in the game, leaving the two of us in the lurch. Thanks, fellows, nice move. 🤖 I noticed that the ratio appeared like lose 3 then win 1; due to me being in a team with a couple of ninjas… That was fun! It was also interesting to see the efficiency of some ninja squads, who cut through my team like a hot knife through butter. That happened so many times, it was beyond a joke, it made me ponder?! I’d love to scrap against other white/yellow/orange belts, at least it would be a bit more of a fair fight. I’d also like it if I rack up a card with 7 wins without the flawless element, but grind my way there over time, that those 7 wins should take me to the Lighthouse. That would be fair, too! As things are, the only incentive I had for entering Trials was to try for a missing weapon, which I now have. Just like before, during the previous Trials Labs exercise, where I was able to grind my way to securing all the armour for W/H/T and most of the toys, once obtained, my days of being stomp-farmed were over. Now, I’m at this point yet again; which begs the Q: why bother? Don’t get me wrong, I do like to dabble in Trials - the gear / toys are highly desirable…but why pit me against black belt ninja squads armed with adept / time lost weapons, when I am obviously only a yellow belt?? Trials / PvP needs a tiered league table, split into Divisions, based on a player’s actual skill level; it can’t be too difficult for Devs to figure out a workable set. This would then let the white/yellow belts have a fair fight; and let the black belt ninja squads match each other: now, that’s what I call ‘fair’. 👈 They (try hards) say they want more Casual players to play Trials / PvP, but, in truth, it appears they only want more canon fodder to stomp-farm. They (try hards) say ‘Git gud, skrubs’…though they squeal and usually quit if they go up against a truly elite team. They (try hards) say ‘Trials ain’t for babies’ yet it’s absolutely chockablock full of them!, ie, the stomp-farmers! Until BHQ address those issues mentioned above, and other glaring issues, eg, the ‘ohk-never-miss-a-headshot-invincibles’ and laggy servers, things are never going to improve. Been saying this since D1Y1, as have many others. Duh?! 🙄 TLDR: 🥋 Just my 2d worth. YMMV. Cheers! MDGA 👈

        • Well, if they went with SBMM then you'd have more issues with connections. So, even if you were as good as another person then you're going to have issues possibly hitting people due to things like lag. You're also at the mercy of P2P meets client based networking to make things worse, but dedicated servers aren't always the answer. As for the people complaining about SBMM being a problem, Quake and other arena shooters have had it before Halo even existed. Halo's and Destiny's PVP is based on what Quake 3 and Unreal started back in the 90s. The only reason Unreal died was because the head of the company wanted to focus all man power on Fortnite, so he decided to leave the latest game in the franchise in limbo. SBMM isn't a problem, but the problem is more that people don't want to play against those on their level. I mean these are the people who cried that others didn't deserve the recluse. I*t's a video game, calm down. Bungie doesn't really care that much about PVP anymore, and are far more focused on PVE. That's why there's so many issues with PVP. It would be better if they just set PVP up like Quake and Unreal, but you're still at the mercy of networking flaws even with CBMM. If you really want to be in the top percent then go set up a tournament, and stop acting like you're a pro athlete. Go play Rugby or join the UFC if you want to actually compete. "It's not for you!" Then why is Bungie just letting anyone in? I mean it's not like they're stopping them from rejoining like they do in professional sports once they clearly can't qualifty. Then you yell at them for dare entering. "I've got an idea! Let's yell over fiction! Git gud at fiction!" Okay, beat every NG on the hardest difficulty and every bullet hell then. Can't? "Git gud". Maybe, just maybe, you're being narcissitc over a video game...git gud...

        • That's Trials for you. Trials was created as a hard core pvp mode to challenge the best pvp players in the game. There is no skill based matchmaking other than card progress so at any time you can (and will) be put up against very good players. Bungie has made it easier for players to play Trials but they will only hold your hand so far. If you want to go to the Lighthouse you have to prove you are worthy by defeating all opposition no matter what skill level they are and no matter what skill level your team mates are. If you do not like this then stick to the normal pvp modes as no one is forcing you to play Trials.

            • I called this and once again, it came to be true. When there was no freelance, everyone who kept losing used that as an excuse for losing. Now that Bungie gave it, you all moved on to a new excuse as to why you are losing. Until you realized YOU are the issue, you will never get better at the game.

              • Please just understand that trials was always meant to be win based matchmaking. Trials is just not made for you to always play against people with your skill level. The more wins are on the ticket the more players start losing games. So it's just that simple that you have a higher chance to match good player the more wins you have on your ticket.

                I was able to go flawless this week, and I will say based on my experience, that the first 3 wins are by far the hardest. I had to reset my card multiple times, because the first two matches were so difficult. After my 3rd win I was matched with teammates who were pvp gods and was able to secure an easy flawless.

                    I have to admit, Trials matchmaking is a dumpster fire. I think I only have 7 wins and 9 losses so far today. Most matches I leave when I quickly realize my teammates are clearly not of equal skill to myself and am expected to carry (a person who plays on PC with a controller with a jacked up arm is supposed to carry) or there is a 2 players with the flawless title or unbroken on the other team and its a clear curbstomp. These aren't close matches, they are slaughters and clearly at the very least put together wrong via teams.

                  • My first game of solo que my teammates each had 0 kills for the match. Matchmaking is hit and miss. At least give me teammates with thumbs….

I was looking forward to this too, but after about 8 hours of play, I've only managed 3 wins in a row, due to crap match making, afk team mates, starting with 2 Vs 3, and it also seems that if I'm against ps (I'm on old gen Xbox) I get beaten by lag.. or xim users.. Sort this out Dev/Customer support, it's -blam!-. Get rid of cross play, match me with 3 people that intend to play on my squad, against people of the same skill level ffs... I've played this game for years, love it, but over and over again the PvP is - as my nearly 2 year old has just started saying "a big pile of poo!"

                      Trials never once matched based on skill, and uf it is to remain an [i]open tournament[/i] with no unique rewards for each skill tier, it shouldn't. In short, your first experience in solo queue wasn't skill based at all. It was RNG that blessed you. I for one hate Freelance (granted the lack of PvP content and Elden Ring made me drop PvP altogether), because I shouldn't have to play under the assumption my teammates are more of a detriment than anything else in a team based mode. Matchmaking improvements would benefit more than Freelance alone ever could in my opinion.

                    • This "lab" is so badly broken. I enjoy playing the mode, then after about an hour hate the entire game. Games should NEVER (rarely) result in ratios of the 6 players being 12,4,2 then .3,.2,.2. Please, fix the matchmaking!!!

                      You have a 0.87 kda, you need to focus on getting good at PvP before you attempt to go flawless. What if it isn’t you thing? Simple, don’t get gud and stop forget about trials.

                        • The lobby balancing is the worst part. Even with matching on card wins and connection they should try to balance the lobby. I'm finding that one team is stacked compared to the other in every match. Looking up my stats on destiny tracker out of 15 matches there was one match where a team wasn't at least a 70% favorite to win.
