Trials of Osiris... Gatekeeping?

Hey dudes, I want to preface this by saying I think Crucible sucks in general. More than anything is just that the peer to peer aspect is flat out embarrassing. I get kills I shouldn't, and I find myself spectating my ghost that's so far around the corner out of line of sight of my killer. Additionally, radar/motion tracker in the most "competitive" (lol) gametype just feels pretty bad. Wanted to get my bias out of the way though, PvP just has such a low standard of quality and is the red-headed step child of Bungie in Destiny. My topic title is kind of ambiguous but I'm actually referring to Trials rewards, not players. I've rarely ever had people to play Destiny with, and when I have, they're complete cheeks so Trials is typically serving charity to other players. I had to grind for Luna's Howl solo queue, so I think I'm at least okay at the game. Not the greatest but I can hold W hold click. Needless to say I've never seen the Lighthouse. When I saw solo queue Trials was coming up I thought it'd be an opportunity to get into some Trials proper, on relatively even grounds. Holy christ almighty was I wrong. Early on it was okay, I even had a few games where my team had 0 deaths. Kinda wild. But as I played more games I started seeing matches where the opposing team's entire arsenal was just "____" (Adept). Some of these players were clearly better than me. Others; I was baffled as to how they acquired these weapons. Regardless of their skill a lot of these weapons just left me with absolutely no chance of winning (or so it felt). Even if I played as well as them, I would never beat them. Are these weapons really THAT much better? I have a basic Shayura's Wrath, shakey roll, but it's not even in the same class as some I'm dying to. I also died to a fusion rifle I hadn't seen before. It obliterated me from unreasonably far away and with almost no charge time. Fusion Rifles pop off, for sure, but the range on this felt more appropriate for a Linear Fusion than standard Fusion. There was absolutely no answer to it. I'd expect it's a culmination of things including experience, teams in general, the aforementioned networking shame, as well as the weapons themselves - but it had me pretty discouraged and expecting to stop playing the game again. I want to engage with all the content yet Trials feels inaccessible already. Destiny is the only game I can neckbeard at and not reach the top bar. It feels like it's a result of being late to the party and that any improvement/growth will still wind up with me hitting my head on a glass ceiling. Any replies or insight would be appreciated. I don't want this to be an echo chamber. I just ask that if you tell me I'm a bk and that I'm wrong about accessibility for late players, that you elaborate on why those weapons aren't that lit (even though everybody is opting to use them). (Edited to add, I saw some Riiswalker Adept and other sorts in there. Just to say I'm getting helplessly owned by weapons I cannot obtain or acquire an equivalent of)

  • Your wasting your time in trials, reguardless off freelance. It’s the most toxic and unrewarding mode in the game. If you can’t consistantly win games, there’s absolutely no reason to play it at all, whatsoever rep gains are too slow, rng drops are far too infrequent, and masterworking materials require you to win games, which your not doing anyway. The trials weapons will never be worth the time it takes to get them. There’s no point in trying. The population is going to shrink EVERY week, lowering the amount of average players every time. To put it into perspective, week 1 trials of this season didn’t have a high enough population for healthy, balanced matchmaking. It’s all sweats a again, like pre revamp. For your own health, stop playing trials. It’s not worth it. It’ll NEVER be worth it. I’ve never even attempted a game of trials. I’m fine never getting trials weapons. Bungie can argue inclusion all they want, but the reality is, trials is in NO WAY inclusive to ANYONE but the top 1%. I’m not that, so I won’t play. Bungie would have to be hard pressed to get me to willingly play a playlist I’d probably kill myself over. Have enough depression and anxiety already. Let trials go. You’ll feel much better about yourself.
