Or rather, we're all just pawns to the Traveler . Remember his modus operandi: bless the world, help them achieve insane level of prosperity, then leave. I'm pretty sure he is going to leave us as well, just like Eliksni, and who knows how many races before.
Why would Savathun refer to the Traveler as "old friend"? My assumption is that he visited Hive homeworld once, but didn't (or maybe did?) give them Light in some form. Was he who gave the advice of teaming up with Worm gods? Or was just an observer? I don't know. He was involved with the Hive a long time ago, of that i am certain.
Immaru is just a Ghost, i imagine they are just an extension of the Traveler, at least partially.

My bet, is she said “old friend” because she knew the truth that the worm gods lied to her, the witness lied to her (why else would she deceive it to end the collapse and save/protect the traveler?) and maybe even the Darkness. As to where or how she learned this? No idea and we will probably learn this later when she comes back. (And I foresee when she does come back, it will be us chasing down Immaru and us forcing him to rez her, not because he wants to help us but because we have control over him, maybe using the light suppression tech from the Cabal? 🤔) and when she rez’s, she will be hostile, but we either convince her we need her knowledge and/or we give her, her FULL memories back. And she realizes that her original plan was a good motivation but flawed, so changes her thinking to being more alliance based, instead of her alone. (Which would raise her chances of getting what she wants.) Her surprise in the end fight was either faked or she didn’t get ALL her memories back, only some (the ones we had found thus far) Because remember, when we fight her, she isn’t the same as the Savvy that says “Old Friend”, two completely different Savvy’s (just like Crow and Uldren. 2 completely different but very similar entities.)

Wouldn’t be surprised if traveler leaves (or at least tries to) in lightfall. Could also see a Rasputin in exo form season towards the end of the year. Have him be prepping for the traveler’s departure and trying to stop it.

Oh I foresee it leaving, and then in our final hour it shows back ex machina as a final sacrifice to give us the edge to escape. Then the 4 seasons between Lightfall and The Final Shape is us recovering/preparing for the final assault/final chance and not waste the second chance the Traveler gave us. Because let’s be honest, our character does seem kinda stupid with a lot of things. (Hence no RPG outside of cosmetics)

I’d don’t think the traveler will do that. Bungie seems intent to question the traveler’s motives to the point that our ghost and Savathun both comment on how the traveler is uncaring so long as it’s goals are achieved. That’s why I think Rasputin will have a season where it’s prepping for the the traveler leaving. Blurring the lines between light and dark as we prep for another darkness subclass. It’d also help set up the distinction that the Darkness and the Witness aren’t the same, just like we and the traveler aren’t. Giving the darkness a persisting presence and a more neutral feel. Idk. Your guess is as good as mine though.

Well, yes. If you follow the logic, then the Traveler is just like any other diety in human history. -blam!- at best, malicious and uncaring at worst. That being said, I believe we saw the Traveler in the sky of the Hive's original world, just before Savathun and her sisters traveled to the Deep. The Hive were originally intended to be blessed by the Light, but they were tricked into taking on their worms. To the Traveler, having wormless Hive resurrected is just making up for lost time. It took Savathun freeing herself from her worm and sacrificing her life, (regardless of her motives,) to kick things off though. The Traveler probably doesn't intend for the Lucent Hive to be on the destructive path they're on, but again, we can attribute that to Immaru and his interference.
