People are upset because they look forward to the weekly update because it’s usually the only guaranteed communication about the game. People just want information, even if it’s, “give us more time.” When they say stuff is on the way, and then never talk about it again it makes the comments in 12/19/2014 Update feel fake. People have been posting feedback, sharing stories, but it doesn’t feel like it’s helping to make Destiny better.
12/04/2014: “Let me get this straight. The player is never “wrong.” I believe that down to my bones.”
12/19/2014: “Keep sharing your stories. Keep posting your feedback. We hear you, and you’re helping make Destiny better. Our next update will drop in January. It hopefully includes some stuff you’ve been asking us for. Expect details after the holidays.”
01/08/2015: DeeJ away blog about weapons (no details found after holidays.)
01/15/2015: Hard Mode prep/cheese update, Pentathlon, DeeJ went to Chicago (no details found after holidays.)
01/22/2015: Hard Mode Stats (no details found after holidays.)
First of all [calm blue ocean], please imagine me saying these things with a friendly smile on my face. I genuinely like people who like to play Destiny. We have something in common. Let's dig in...
We work on Destiny every day. I'd enjoy making promises about when your wish lists will turn into patch notes, but coding interactive entertainment is not that predictable. Things we want to happen could hit a roadblock. I'd rather not try to walk back conversations about priorities that were interpreted as promises. I prefer to set expectations when I know we can deliver. Many of you have all but demanded that we never talk about things that won't end up in the game.
If you want to know how you've influenced development, look no further than the dozen or more updates that we've applied to the game. Some of those updates were things we wanted to happen. Some of them are things that you had demanded. There is a symbiosis at work here.
Here's some real talk: I truly do appreciate the community that plays this game. I know some of you want to be angry with me, but I can't make that a two-way street. I do appreciate the conversation that happens on this forum. Please don't ask me to stop thanking you for that. Please don't call me a politician for valuing your input, and for saying so. Your chatter helps me do my job, and invigorates our development process with additional voices. I know you want a window into our world, but imagine trying to do your job with millions of people looking over your shoulder. I need to maintain a safe environment where our people can take chances and innovate.
If you keep telling us what you want, I will keep representing your opinions. I just came from a meeting where I did just that. I understand your impatience. I'm the least patient person I know. What I can tell you is that Destiny will continue to evolve, and you're a part of that process.
In the meantime, stay tuned. And keep shooting stuff.
In Dwight Schrute voice, "False you volunteered your comment on 12/19/2014." For real though DeeJ did use the term hopefully about the add but also used the term expect details after the holidays. If you offer up the carrot, don't be surprised when people follow it. Note he didn't have to give a definitive answer, it could have been, "I know I said to expect some details but progamming is still working on it, HOPEFULLY, I will have more info. within a couple weeks.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head that we influenced was increased bounty slots, which make you scratch your head about increased vault slots

Then never over promise, and always over deliver. If on 12/19/2014 you really had no clue how long it would take to add any of the things asked for, then leave that part out of the update.

If it's too late to implement changes into TDB/HoW because the content is already finished and on a release schedule... and the changes are being taken into account by the programmers for Destiny 2... then please just say it, but no as of right now I don't feel like I'm a part of the process.
