Now, I have noticed something direly wrong with the mindset people hold towards multiplayer.
Too often I hear, "KDR doesn't mean shit!"
"I'm not a no-life, I don't care about a high KDR."
Blah blah blah..
Now I understand not everyone has put the time in to pull off positive KDRs every game, or consistently put up good numbers on the scoreboard.
But it is the pure neglect for the founding principle that Team Deathmatch (encompasses almost all destiny PvP game types) was built on that bothers me.
Nobody seems to give two shits about maintaining a positive KDR, but does no one realize that by giving yourself a negative KDR, you have directly fed the other team more points than you contributed to your own team???
KDR is the ONLY thing that matters in a Team Deathmatch gametype. Game types like "control" simply add a side objective, but KDR remains the primary goal.
so I ask, why do you not care about KDR? Do you just not care about winning or at least giving your team a chance to win?
Did you just simply not realize that KDR actually DOES matter?
Again, I'm not trying to correct anyone, I'm just curious as to why it seems that the general Destiny population doesn't understand such a concept.
Here's a picture, posted by "CrazyT101" of a game won with ZERO control captures, highlighting the importance of KDR. While not everything, it does hold significant weight in determining a match winner.

EDIT: It's not about how high the KDR is, but about consistently maintaining a positive KDR for your team, as long as the Kill-Death spread is positive you have HELPED your team, rather than HINDERED.
EDIT2: a lot of people have brought to my attention the necessity of team assists and certain tactics that still contribute positively to the "team effort." While important, IMO these additions still do not change the core concept of control (TDM.)
LASTEDIT: thank you all for the feedback! Seems there's a variety of viewpoints on this matter from "KDR still don't mean shit" to "I just play the game for fun."
I'm a pretty competitive guy and I forgot not everyone shares the same feeling. It may just be a videogame, but a game, nonetheless. And I like to win games!
THANKS GUARDIANS!
(Additional) FINAL EDIT: I really appreciate all of the thought out replies guys. Opens my eyes to a much wider world of Destiny than before. GOOD LUCK to all guardians in the crucible and hopefully this thread will help some players. Maybe?
Either way, cheers!
**A Note For Bungie**
-I know it's probably been said many times by now, but this thread strongly suggests people desire more of a reward from the crucible. Even something as simple as a more heavily influenced RNG roll for every 1000 points you've nabbed for your team. Just a thought.

1 답변Damn right it matters. You need to be at that very bottom with 0.2 or below to get that exotic you've been wanting for ages.
-
6 답변I don't know about you, but I never party up for PvP. Sometimes you get a bum team and other times you're up against a team that is obviously communicating and working together. Most of the time I do pretty well, but there are times as a lone wolf that you can't come out with a positive KDR.

9 답변The less you die, the less points the opposite team gets. It's not rocket science, though this mindset is clearly difficult for most potatoes playing destiny.

It also depends on what I'm doing. If I'm bounty hunting and close to completing a bounty, KDR is the last thing I'm thinking about and should be. This is not a competitive game and having a high KDR does not make a difference in the end. If performing well affected matchmaking I might be less concerned about bounties.

3 답변You have a very simplistic one dimensional view of the game. For instance, let's say I go 0.5 KDR and yet the kills I get are from killing the players that have just picked up heavy ammo. Surely you can see that I have most likely saved my team from many deaths and therefore robbed the opposition of many points at the expense of my own KDR. This is a team game and your value to the team and to ultimate victory cannot be measured by one simple statistic.

2 답변I agree. When I started in crucible I was really bad. Like .5 bad. Coming over from COD land where my average was around 2.0 this was humiliating. Half of the battle is just learning the maps & angles. After a few games I've noticed more consistent games where I'm in a positive KDR. My best advice is, if you're new to crucible and getting slaughtered, then stick near a team mate or two. This will decrease your chances of dying dramatically. And not dying can help your team win 👍

I don't give a shit about your k/d. I don't give a shit about my k/d. I don't give a shit about atheon's k/d. I don't give a shit about crota's k/d. I basically don't give a shit about anyone's k/d do you know why ? Because it's just a game & I'm not getting paid to rip you a new ass hole. I play PVP for exotic bounties so the only thing I care about is putting this gun in your mouth pulling the trigger & watching those points pile up till bounty is complete then after that I'm gone. Team better hope I don't complete my bounty during a match......POOF ! Shorthanded.

6 답변" i don't care about kdr" "i play just for fun" are really just excuses for people who cannot maintain a good kdr because of a lack of basic skill in playing shooters on a console. What more fun is there to go 3.29 in a Match and wreck the other team?
-
I think the point people try to make with that is not everyone is going to have a positive K/D, yet people on here say don't even bother playing PvP if you don't. Everyone has to start somewhere tho, and one team has to lose. It's the nature of a PvP game. I think the goal for everyone should be to try and get at least a 1 K/D in each game, but realistically, that is not going to happen.

5 답변What do you think about playing the objective? If your talking about control being more bout K/D than the objective then how do you see the player that constantly fights for objectives and jumps on them knowing they will die so that they can cap? Are you someone who plays control with 0 caps? If so ur not helping much with your positive K/D. The objectively correct medal is the only medal control players should be striving for.

use your post again when trial of Osiris pops in destiny gameplay pls. im not a serious player on crusible cause i want to do the bounties (which i love killing with different methods). I only got serious mode on IB where wins matter and higher k/d ratio means exactly what you mentioned in your post. So as a request to other guardians pls try to maintain your kills over Osiris trials cause its gonna be impossible to earn stuff if you dont contribute to your teams.(only be objectively correct should do the trick)

2 답변I share the game with my family. 1 of which being a 8 year old. I don't care about my overall kdr for that reason.

1 답변Destiny is a game. Games are meant to be played to have fun. How are you supposed to have fun when all you do is play for your KDR? Do you even have fun at all when you play this game? Honestly ask yourself that question. It's stupid to play a game for the sole purpose of improving a numeric statistic that ultimately has no real value of any kind. It's just a number. That's it. All it does is tell of the past games played by a player. It cannot predict the future because the last time I checked Destiny is not a math test. Players have good games and bad games in multiplayer. Just because a player might not have a positive KDR doesn't mean shit about how well they will perform the next time they pick up the controller. So why should you care about this KDR? Yes in a standard game of Team Deathmatch your KDR directly affects if you win or lose, but only for that single game. Overall KDR is pointless. And yes it is ok to be competitive. I myself am a very competitive player but there is a point of competing where having fun becomes impossible and that is where everyone should learn to draw the line. Destiny is a game. So have fun playing it. No one cares about your positive KDR. Like wow, I'm so impressed, congratulations you have accomplished so much. If you honestly care that much about having a good KDR then go play Call of Duty with all the other try hards.

When I used the SUROS Regime, I realized I had a serious problem. I got a 13.37 K/D. But after I used the Khvostov, I've gone negative every game. (4.20) Khvostov is love Khvostov is life. #mlg
ayyy lmao( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
2 답변The game rewards points for better kills. You neglect that fact, and one member successfully capturing an objective to secure more future points is better than a lone wolf who cannot contribute but to add few points to the total score.
