Police in Cleveland fatally shot a 12-year-old boy wielding what turned out to be a replica gun. They were responding to a 911 call in which a man said a juvenile was scaring people with a gun that probably was fake.
The boy, identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office as Tamir Rice, was shot in the torso in the playground area of a recreation center Saturday afternoon.
Deputy Chief Ed Tomba said one officer fired twice after the boy pulled the fake weapon -- which didn't have the orange safety indicator usually found on the muzzle -- from his waistband but had not pointed it at police. The boy did not make verbal threats, Tomba said, but grabbed the replica handgun after being told to raise his hands. He died Sunday at MetroHealth Medical Center.
Sorry, I don't feel bad. There's a reason those orange tips are on toy guns.
Here's a link to a NYT article, including the CCTV footage. The video is obviously NSFW.

In light of seeing the video, I no longer have an argument supporting what the police did. Their actions amount to little more than a drive-by shooting.

We have rules of engagement we have to follow in order for us to determine if there is a threat to myself and others around me. If I feel threatened or others I'll do everything in my power to neutralize the threat. Granted shout/show/shove/shout/SHOOT. Not going to explain, just look it up. I see it as he did what he was trained to do. If others don't see it that way when oh well. There are 2 sides to every story just remember that.

5 답변작성자: Centurion 11/24/2014 2:54:36 PMOooh no, guess cops shouldn't have guns. I wonder if that applies to contemporary liberals and there euphemist rhetoric of co-called gun safety. People, stop acting like a police did the right thing. If a civilian did it , the person would be in prison by the D.A. The state ( government) is bias and doesn't want to be looked upon as " Lets shoot anyone who works in the private sector." I find it clear that men and women have psychological problems as enforcers of the law. These -blam!-s get off on that shit. You people need to stop dick riding cops and have them all reevaluated mentally. If you do and you are a minority. -blam!-ing shame on you. They protect white majority middle class neighborhoods, while racially profiling working class and poor class Americans. Last, if the police are so just, why the -blam!- is the majority all white. Institutionalized racism! I don't hear -blam!-ing liberals talk about the shit like that. Social equality my ass. Yeah, I am ranting . Stop dick riding cops like they don't do anything wrong. You -blam!-ing idiots. How about have that cop not be protected by the state and pay for his lawyer, scumbag. I just read some dum shit from people below , so I put shit down here. Cop dick riders. I hope they shoot your dog!

Did he try to impersonate a criminal and see what it was like? But the cop is in my opinion, innocent. Maybe he pulled a quickdraw on the kid before he realized the gun was fake. The cops are doing as always and try to do the right thing and prevent any tricks on the streets for no one to get hurt, So the cop did the right thing. This is one of those situation where parental supervision fails once again. But then again: >Parents >Actually looking after kids Pick one mother-blam!-er. PICK ONE.

Wasn't cops fault idiot kid took off orange muzzle and pulled the fake gun when the cops were aiming at him (as if it would manically turn real and he would turn into Jesse James or some shit) kid was an idiot cop didn't hesitate end of story.

1 답변I don't care if you're an eighty year old woman or a 7 year old autistic child. If you pull the trigger on a gun, you can kill somebody with it. Cops can't tell what's real and what's fake immediately, especially with a replica gun. The kid decided to point a real looking replica at a police officer and, unfortunately, paid the price. The cop reacted fine, in my opinion. People need to stop thinking that pointing fake weapons at people who need to defend themselves as part of their job will be le mastur troll 2012.

What the -blam!- is wrong with you. That kid is only 12 and shot and you say" ohh I don't feel bad theirs a reason orange tips are on those guns". Imagine how that kids family is feeling now. I mean don't you care a little bit about the kid and his parents. You should if you have any brain inside you. You are just like 50% of people that blame the other side when really it's the police fault. You are just as nieve as everyone how agrees with u

30 답변작성자: Tosevite 187 11/24/2014 5:14:16 PMIt's fuvked what cops get away with these days. Protect and serve my ass. Edit: ok ok lots of angry responses here. Obviously we all are kind of acting on barely a paragraphs worth of info regarding why a child was killed so we are all making our judgements off assumptions here. That being said I made my assumption that the child was wrongfully shot because these three 'facts' presented: 1. 911 caller told police the gun was most likely fake. 2. It's a 12 year old 3. Kid just took the fake gun from his waist band. He did not point the weapon at the officers. He could have been attempting to drop it, set it down, or explain to the officers it was fake. 4. From the previous fact I am assuming the child was approached by and officer with his gun already drawn and pointing at the child even tho the child's 'gun' was holstered in his waist band. I can understand the cops gun being drawn. But not pointing at the child as the gun was already deemed most likely fake. 5. Police officers have many other less lethal means of subduing a possible target. Such as a taser or rubber bullets 6. I could see how maybe it could be argued an everyday uneducated person could act so abruptly and instinctively but Cops are supposedly well trained for these kinds of situations and he should have been more level headed. Edit 2: If you're one of those jack asses who thinks the cop is always right and they protect and serve us well. Please search for "70-year-old man is shot reaching for cane" and "black man shit for a seat belt violation" both happened this past year Edit 3: an even more recent story of a completely innocent man search "N.Y. Officer fatally shoots innocent unarmed man

2 답변They did the proper thing. The gun looked real, and the kid went to it when they said to raise his hands. They had evidence to believe it was a real gun, and he meant to use it. Right response. Unfortunate for the family, but the they didn't teach the kid right.

Yep, I agree. I am an owner and players of the Airsoft Sport, and unfortunately read about this happening way to often. And, Airsoft guns are spot on 1 to 1 copies of their real steel counterparts, the only way to tell the difference in most of them is by the orange tip.
