Police in Cleveland fatally shot a 12-year-old boy wielding what turned out to be a replica gun. They were responding to a 911 call in which a man said a juvenile was scaring people with a gun that probably was fake.
The boy, identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office as Tamir Rice, was shot in the torso in the playground area of a recreation center Saturday afternoon.
Deputy Chief Ed Tomba said one officer fired twice after the boy pulled the fake weapon -- which didn't have the orange safety indicator usually found on the muzzle -- from his waistband but had not pointed it at police. The boy did not make verbal threats, Tomba said, but grabbed the replica handgun after being told to raise his hands. He died Sunday at MetroHealth Medical Center.
Sorry, I don't feel bad. There's a reason those orange tips are on toy guns.
Here's a link to a NYT article, including the CCTV footage. The video is obviously NSFW.

In light of seeing the video, I no longer have an argument supporting what the police did. Their actions amount to little more than a drive-by shooting.

14 답변I have no sympathy for him. He knowingly removed the orange tip, which means he wanted people to think he had a real gun. He was treated as though he had a real gun. Entirely his fault.

9 답변If anyone thinks it's okay for a kid to lose there life, white or black or any ****ing color is screwed up in the head.. Mike Brown was not armed, was shot once.. he put his hands up and was shot even more times.. then when he was on the ground (dead ) the cop shot him another time. It's ridiculous, and the guy assumed "the black kid" had something to do with it.. cmon people, we're not in that time period anymore, I can even see that and I'm white? Skin color doesn't mean a thing.. but w/e we'll probably never get rid of racism

3 답변Regardless of what narrative or witness account you choose to believe. An unarmed kid getting six bullets in him will never make any sense.

작성자: DMMetalaane 11/27/2014 11:21:31 PMWell. Kudos to you for not covering up your crappy assumption before you saw the video. Hopefully you'll learn to not jump to conclusions next time. Anyway. This is just horrible. 1. Boys play with toy guns. It's just what they do. 2. They were responding to a 911 call in which a man said a juvenile was "scaring" people with a gun that probably was fake. I doubt he was pointing it at people. People were just getting scared because he's black. The caller said it was probably fake. 3. Little kids don't know how to react to something like that. He probably reached for his airsoft gun to lift in the air so they could see he didn't mean any harm. Or, he was utterly confused and just didn't know how to react at all to a car speeding up right beside him on the grass and adults abruptly yelling at him. A kid would probably be scared. 4. If the officers were trying to be as efficient as possible and truly thought the kid was a threat, the best thing to have done was swiftly roll by and fire a tazer through the window. Resorting to lethal weapons for a situation that can be difused by non-lethality is basically murder. The only defense here for the cops is that the boy's parents should have certainly told him that brandishing any sort of object that looks like a gun in public is a bad idea. We're living in Amerikkka, folks.

1 답변I CANT DEFEND THOSE POLICE. BUT I HATE HOW PEOPLE JUST CALL THEM TRIGGER HAPPY IDIOTS. JUST BECAUSE SOME OF THEM ARE, DOESNT MEAN THEY ALL ARE.

작성자: Ghost of Reach 11/28/2014 1:57:49 PMFirst time I going to say it, -blam!- the police, it's like they look for the chance to shoot people. Trigger happy idiots with badges. With that out of the way not all cops are that way, I know couple good ones. Still wtf.... But there are orange safety tips are there for a reason.

5 답변This is probably another racist shootings because the 911 caller asked if the boy was white or black.

작성자: ROBERTO jh 11/27/2014 8:39:07 PMThe kid doesn't die right away OP, I thought the video showed him getting gunned down by police the instant they showed up, but he's still there later and you can see him reach for his gun and pull it out at around 1:09. The video at that point is consistent with the story. Edit: Nevermind saw they relapsed the video in slo-mo. You can still see him reach for the gun though

4 답변I'm laughing hard at how OP jumped to dumb conclusions and made a fool of himself before sufficient facts were out and completely changed his stance once the video was released. Nothing new here.

5 답변작성자: BlazinKnight317 11/26/2014 8:38:18 PMOhio is an open carry state in which anyone can openly carry a weapon in certain places and does not constitute a crime. "State law does not prohibit the open carrying of firearms except in certain locations"(NRAILA). So how can you, OP, say that? Source: http://www.nraila.org/gun-laws/state-laws/ohio.aspx
