So, let me provide a disclaimer before going on a short rant: Destiny is the first FPS I've played since Counter-Strike (yes, I played that in college, in the early 2000's), and the first sort-of MMO I've ever played in my life. I decided to get Destiny mainly for the FPS aspect, not so much the role-playing, leveling-up one. I love this game, though I'm eager for the expansions, and hopefully more beyond that, as the years go by.
I just ran across some comments where a player said that it was another player's fault that he didn't have Fatebringer (you know, the Hard Raid gun that still has to be given by RNGesus). This really angered me, but had me thinking about the bigger picture. I've seen a lot of trolling on this forum with players trash-talking others, because they haven't done this, haven't done that, have trouble solo'ing Nightfalls, Heroic strikes, whatever. They haven't maxed out their guns...that's even a point to criticize someone on, apparently.
Let me give a few statistics from my profile (obviously you can look this up): The big one, a 0.83 K/D in the Crucible. GUESS WHAT? I don't care! You know why? I have fun playing it. I like playing with a team, and at least getting "important" kills. As for Strikes, I die doing Tiger Strikes sometimes, you know why? I like to run and gun like an idiot, because it's a video game that allows for that. Of course, if it were real life, I wouldn't do that. Nobody would, you'd try to find cover. But there will be people to revive me. And I will do the same for them.
I'm 33, I didn't play video games (regularly) for at least 10 or so years, after college, aside from having a PSP to pass the time. I'm an accountant, my girlfriend is getting her PhD in child psychology. We eat healthy, however you want to define that. Basically what I'm trying to get across to some of you is that we actually have lives outside of video games. Video games are fantasy. They're not real. I don't spend hours on end practicing getting the perfect headshot every single time I fire. I DO like getting assists in the Crucible, because I want my team to win. I try to get double-digit assists, actually. Weird, I know. It's like trying to be the John Stockton or Chris Paul of Destiny.
Basically, for the trolls, understand that I and others don't play as often as you. We don't CARE about it as much as you, because there are more pressing issues in the real word. I SUCK at Destiny...and I'm ok with that. I have fun doing it. Do you really want to look back, when you're (hopefully) in your 60's, with a destroyed liver and kidneys from chugging Monster to stay up playing these games, and struggle to find some justification for it? To the GREAT players, who also are nice people who understand some players don't put as much time into it, but love to play with them all the same, a HUGE thank you.
Out.
Edit: Much appreciation for the positive responses, as well as the thought-provoking ones.
2nd Edit: Uh oh...looks like the Hive has struggled to get out of bed, finally...
3rd Edit: It said "Over and out."...but I changed it to just "Out" for the sticklers!!! >:(

As a fellow adult gamer you have a very valid point. But May I ask. Why play any game unless your going to play to win? I enjoy my fair share of trash talk. It's fun. I'm not 100% serious and the only time I am truly upset about anything in this game or any game for that matter. Is when I'm attempting content designed to played with a certain level of seriousness and there is that one guy who continually wastes your time. The PvP system in this game is a complete joke and should never be taken seriously.

So you were generalized by the people who play this game too much when they said your were a noob and you suck. I get it, that's not true, you have a life, but so does everyone else. Why do you care how others spend their lives? If someone calls you a noob just ignore it man, call them a no lifer if you must, but just because someone puts more time into a video game than you, it doesn't make them "monster chugging teenagers". Live your life your way and let others live life their way. In the end, who cares?

12 답변I don't understand the 'I suck but it's cuz I don't play as much as you cuz I have a life' bit. I have a 9-5 job. I go out. Normal, everyday people stuff. But I don't suck at video games. It's not like I 'train' at getting good either, nor do I get overly angry when I do poorly. In the heat of the moment I might let off some steam, but as soon as the scoreboard comes up I'm calm. It's called being competitive. I just don't understand how performing badly can be perceived as fun. Like, I don't imagine that the guy I just saw go 4-22 in crucible was all smiles at the end. Maybe he was, and that's why he sucks.

Hey bro I too am around your age. Though I've always played games in high school/college and I still play after my day job. I Play to have fun too and honestly if it wasn't for my clan I'd have prob left this game behind but they keep it fun with the chatter and back and forth joking that happens during our missions like when my friend went to hide under the priests walk way before it was patched cuz he had to go to the lil titans room only to come back and tell of his being 5lbs lighter only seconds later getting crushed as soon as he peeks his head out. and the comments "He would have been better off if he stayed on the crapper" lol But I differ slightly I enjoy getting head shots and work hard to become good at it I try to be the best I can because honestly walking though a team in PvP makes me feel awesome. Do I give my friends crap for doing bad as they do to me too but its all in jest no one is to serious we are all very competitive though so that can make it fun but I can see where those who aren't of that mind set or are thin skinned wouldn't enjoy himself. The point of a game is to have fun and to for this type of game its meant to be played with others so surround yourself with other like minded players and let the haters hate bro. I care about my kd some what I'd like to be better sure who wouldn't but I'll join anyone's fire team and I even try to give advice when I can if they don't take it meh no skin off my teef. Its a game don't let anyone make it not fun for ya.

4 답변작성자: Dyognes 11/19/2014 4:23:07 PMUnfortunately alot of gaming communities are like that now I am unsure whether it is just a vocal minority though. I play all games for fun and I can have fun having 4 kills and 22 deaths it all matters on how you approach the game. If some of my deaths are because of a fantastic shot good on them if it was a close fought fire fight good on them. I can still be having fun losing. I have an ultra competitive brother in law he wants to win so bad he even is desperate to beat his now 6 year old child at everything. I remember him gloating over beating him at bowling when the child was 4. Now I just view all the people who act like that in games are just like him.

1 답변Kids today think a game will change their pathetic lives SMH. I just wanted a fun game to play with friends and that's what I got with Destiny.

Why would I want to live longer? So I could have wrinkles, no sex drive, and have people cuss me out while driving? No thanks. Yes, I'm actually dead serious. 50-55 is cool with me. Lord, take me away. lol

Thank you!!!! Finally someone understands! I only have about two hours a week to play and in that time I play as one character the entire time. I've been stuck on the same light level on my hunter for a month and a half. I cant find any legendary gear except one fusion rifle. I've been trying to rank up in a faction so I can buy the gear to rank up but since I only have two hours at a time it takes an eternity. The struggle is real.

4 답변So this passive aggressive trash talking about people "who take the game too serious" is any better than the kids calling out someone's kd? You're just as bad as them man. Get off you high horse, "we eat healthy". I Lol'd. You have EIGHT days played, you play roughly three hours/day. Clearly you "CARE" as much about the game as the supposed trolls because you are spending just as much time as them. Calling people out for being toxic and then being toxic yourself makes you look like an idiot. Just sayin...

10 답변Only KIDs think their KDR makes them relevant in life, lol. So long as I'm having fun with some friends, or even by myself, I don't care how well I do. I used to take my kd too seriously in Battlefield and all it did was stress me out. My low kd in this game doesn't hurt me at all. My mortgage still gets paid, my gf is still hot, and I still have a great job. Suck on that, kiddies!

5 답변Yeah since you've missed most of the time since cs let me recap ya. Halo started it. People getting competitive with games. Saying no skill to rocket or sniping. Then cod came and drew in frat boys who think they are better cause they have a higher k/d then others copied cod. The community then split. Casuals hardcore and trolls. You fall into the first. The trolls purposely turn casuals hard and anger the hard. The rage and false superiority is gained and thus you see what you've seen.

7 답변I hear you man, but I disagree with the whole "it's just a video game" thing. Gaming nowadays is a legit hobby just like being an artist, mechanic, musician, etc. There are certain games, (mainly MMO's), that require quite a bit of skill and practice and they are just as much a part of reality as the crazy world we live in today. I'm not saying I'm a gaming God, (especially in shooters lol), but gaming is legit IMO. I'm 38, been with my lady since 1994, and have an 18 year old daughter. I traveled extensively and have seen a lot of the world, and because of that I choose to lose myself in an alternate reality with gaming. Some ppl game casually, others it's more serious, but no matter how you do it, gaming is way more than just an immature hobby for slackers :).

4 답변Well said that man. I think some people completely miss the point of video games. They are........games. Something to play at not live by. I dont read any thread that is titled like "Things you should and should not do in VOG" or " I cannot believe people dont know how to...." I know some people are trying to impart knowledge and that is fine, but if you feel the need to write how idiotic some people are because they arent doing what you want, then just dont. Keep it to yourself. Its a bit like the anti camper ranters on COD. IF it was real life, you wouldnt last long running around an area and hoping you shoot the other guy first. Im pretty sure actual real life soldiers spend most of their battle time.....camping. If its annoying you that the camper is killing you so often then that probably says more about the way you are playing than them. Anyway, totally agree with the OP and their philosophy to gaming. Now, group hug anyone??

1 답변the thing is that I am one of those hardcore (as far as time investment is concerned ) players and I still don't understand the animosity held against so called "filthy casuals" looking at your stats you've actually played more destiny hours then i have but I mean video gaming is my life, is that sad? sure but I don't really give a shit video gaming is what I do. I have a job to support my video game addiction. I'm going to put in mad work on inquisition/far cry 4/unity/and destiny at the same time and I don't feel like I'm a dick to those with less know how. I read 7+ gaming websites daily. I mean gaming is my thing; and movie theatres love me some cinema. Still I've never understood the "douchebag hardcore" mentality. maybe I'm not hardcore enough idk.

작성자: NathanW18 11/19/2014 4:04:29 PMI think the majority of trash talking is mainly done towards the players that show arrogance on here. They call other players bad, but when you look at their stats, they're horrible at the game. They also tend to be the players that complain the most about PvP and call it/everybody bad. They deserve to be ridiculed. Doing it to players that aren't asking for it isn't right, though. That does happen and I don't agree with it. Also, it's possible to 'have a life' and still be good at video games. To be honest, the people that always bring up their life and have to tell everybody how great it is tend to be the most annoying. Nobody cares if you have a girlfriend/wife, kids, a fulltime job, thousands of pounds/dollars. None of that is relevant on a video game forum. If you suck, don't make excuses about 'having a life'. Just admit that you suck and get better. If you don't want to get better, stop trying to make better players feel bad when you have no idea what their life is like.
