Soo... since when was halos story so good?
I keep hearing people compare the stories of halo and destiny like bungie dropped the ball so bad.
But I played the first 3 halos and I don't remember the story being that compelling at all.
An argument could be made for halo having better characters but the story was just as tangled and unremarkable I think.
Maybe I could be wrong it's been awhile since I played them because my 360 broke not long after I got it and never bothered getting a new one.
I'm just confused because I hear that this game is uncharacteristic for bungie, but I've always saw halo as having amazing gameplay and a story no one ever cared about.
Edit: wow this blew up quickly I only expected 2 or 3 replies, love everyone's passion.
It is quickly becoming apparent that this story meant alot more to some other people than me and my friends, and that's great maybe one day we will be having this same conversation about destiny.
Edit II: extended universe does not count, I'm talking in game story. I would also make this point, the people saying the story will come together with dlc are getting tons of flak on this forum.
Well I would argue those books are just non-playable expansion packs. Why weren't those archs in game if they are so important to the story.

2 답변Halo didn't have anything resembling a story until Halo 3. ONI, Marathon, Destiny, Halo all have the same things in common. They're fun, but there's nothing interesting or unique about their worlds/lore. Their characters are always at worst boring or at best merely likeable. But there's very little in the way of originality in sci-fi anymore. There's a century's worth of the stuff to contend with. However, ultimately, complaining about the story in a videogame? Do you complain about the story in porn? All I need to know about Pac-Man is that it's fun to play. I don't need to know the reason why he has to eat all these pulls, or why these ghosts object to it. I don't need to know what the Traveller is, or why all these aliens hate me. It's fun to shoot them. If you want a good story go buy a book "Wah but games NEED story" No, they just need to be fun.

1 답변Halos story was BY FAR the best one i have seen on any video game, and the only one I care for, I've played halo 3's campaign countless times. It holds so many memories.

1 답변I remember playing halos campaigns cause they were fun and drawer me into the story, I have yet to complete the campaign on Destiny and I dont feel obligated to. I have fun playing with friends on Destiny. But I am disappointed that this wasn't the epic story of your guardian that I thought it was going to be. I am mostly a story driven gamer, I love rpgs

2 답변I liked the part when master chief shot that alien in the face snouts, and that one time with that thing that was the guy but guess what he was evil! Seriously, I liked the first game the story was predictable as hell, but I had fun. The second ones story fell apart on me and I was done caring about what happens next when the plant from little shop of horrors showed up. That was the last halo game I played. My friends kept saying I should read this book or that book then play two and the story will make more sense. I did get one of the books and read the first few chapters then gave it back because I didn't like the writing or plot. However, if you like the storyline and it brings you joy I am happy that it exists but for me it's a waste of time no offense. I also think a song of fire and ice is badly written and uninteresting, but that's just my opinion and a lot of my friends love and love them so I am happy it exists as well.

8 답변I thought the Halo story, was unoriginal. Ringworld did it first, just saying. Destiny is something new, poorly portrayed, but still something new.

I mean seriously, multiple novelists wrote series based on the game fiction. You don't know that? Back in the good old days there was a damn Bungie forum dedicated to the story. Halo is the story and gameplay is a requirement. Destiny has good gameplay but I can't figure out why the hell I would want to play it.

Halo's story was consistently well told. It provided context, interesting settings and characters, and as the story grew, moral dilemmas and grey areas took precedent over the action. It's arguably one of the most fleshed out videogame universes out there, certainly one of the most fleshed out FPS games. [/quote] It has had best selling novels written about it before the game even came out, novels which have been more or less been going strong for over a decade, comic books, even live action films. Seriously you can't tell me you didn't have some inkling about how important the story was to people. But with that said, Halo's story really is just better told than Destiny's, in general. No real arguing it.

1 답변The story did get better over time. But you telling me you weren't trying to save Cortana? I was sprinting most levels like a bat out of hell! I needed to save my girl! If the fallen got Ghosty (thats what I call him) I'd be like "meh" not like he's Cortana. He doesn't even have small AI boobs with matrix like binary code running down him. I'll get on amazon and order another one. Wait...is there amazon in the world of destiny? Or Internet? Idk cuz like so many other things it's not covered iN THE STORY!!

1 답변I Think its time you leave. In all seriousness no they weren't amazing stories, they were a hell of a lot better than most other fps though. the lore/universe Bungie created though was amazing. Bungie is amazing when it comes to building a universe, heck they even created a "Halo bible" that Bungie gave to the novel writers that described every little detail about the halo universe. When it comes to character development though bungie Weren't that good at it, yeah there was some badasses but not much in terms of character development. IMO 343 did a much better job with characters and story, they humanised master chief and went into the ethics of the SPARTAN program.

Halo not only has a great campaign story but has an in depth story spanning from several books, graphic novels, and comics. Once 343 took over the went to shambles however. (Halo:Reach and the book The Fall of Reach are completely contradictory. Upsetting because the fall was such an amazing book) But if we're gonna compare things like cortana and dinkle bot halo takes the cake. Plus destiny doesn't have those breathtaking cinematic encounters that defined halo as the groundbreaking console fps that it is. Its just sad. Can't wait for the mastercheif collection

9 답변Oh my God. Halo stories made me want to come home from work, get a pizza, turn the phone off and play. I barely even think about Destiny and haven't turned it on in almost 2 weeks. And it's less than a month old.
