Concerned Warning to Bungie

If you're going to stagger your content, make sure there is enough depth at the core to keep your core players satisfied until updates arrive. If you're going to update, make the updates worthwhile. Don't keep stringing your core players along, saying that you're listening to feedback, but doing anything other than taking that feedback into public consideration. Actions speak louder than words. If you're going to patch out the most bearable component of your drop system, take the time to understand why players are resulting to this "exploit." Take the time to understand that it's because the rest of the game does not reward players relative to challenge whatsoever. Understand that when players feel no reward for their efforts on challenging content, there will no longer be a desire to use any of that content. Most bounties and missions are slowly becoming outdated because after a while players are realizing that they are hardly benefited at all for enduring the challenge. Having no rewards gets old and makes players feel, especially in a game where rewards are players only tickets into content (that players are now finding unfulfilling and not worthwhile), like the game is entirely out of their control. Please take the time to understand that videogames are meant to be controlled physically and mentally. Decisions made are entirely dependent on incentive. A video game without control in the hands of the player might as well be a movie. And a movie with an unfulfilling story is usually not a very good movie. Your core players can be defined as the majority of players (based on comments, community conversations, and reviews) that didn't buy Destiny because they heard from a friend it was good. The same majority of players that purchased it on release because of what they were told this game would have. Because of Bungie's name being one they felt they could trust, and because of the representatives at Bungie these players had seemingly no reason to believe were stretching the truth to the limit. With all of the awful reviews, and all of the negative complaints and gripes with core game fundamentals, and with all of the toxicity within the main community, these core players are your only chance at this game surviving the end of 2014. If you don't want to lose your players and have a tarnished name from this game going forward, I highly suggest (as a fan of Bungie's since Halo CE) that you start trying to appease these gamers. At this rate, you're losing them and a lot of them see you as lying sellouts. If this trend continues, it could very well result in a permanent stain on anything you guys do from here on out. Will this ship sink or will it sustain? That's ENTIRELY up to you, Bungie. You have control over your own Destiny in this very moment. This isn't a threat at all. It's a warning of what many are seeing as an easy probability. Please don't let this be the equivalent of the Titanic in video game form. For us and for you as a corporate entity.

  • Now that the DLC content was shown to clearly be "on disc content" locked behind a pay wall you still defend this game? Are you people serious? You get screwed over and over again and just sit there being drones, wake up. Im sorry to say this but many people knew it was going to be like this and you ignored them or just gave them the cold shoulder, with your stupid "its only a beta" coments.

    • I agree mostly to what you have said. I've waited for this game since it's first announcement years ago. I am noot a crucibal fan, afterplaying bf3 and 4 its seems the same players from there that use moded controlers use them in the crucibal also. as for loot .... its hard enough to get it now ,let alone hope to get loot from missions. for example,, ie,,, you get a legendary engram,its says"legendary" but you only get a commen from it. not the legendary it was to be. it also seems unfair that fighting in the crucibal gives more ascendent shards for up grades than PvE. which is more unfair. I'm dissapointed in some ways but still like the game.I also believe that if you fight in the crucibal the gear should not be used in Pve or visa versa. But that only my thoughts. i refuse to play PvP even to the point of abandoning a exotic weapon or armor bounty just to stay out of there. hope your reading bungie cause I may end up going back to other games and taking a money lose on this investment.

        • I feel like I was freaking robbed. I was excited and looking forward to this game. I was expecting a story, damn I was wrong. what the heck have you been doing after halo???? You could have at least changed it up a bit. random starting locations. I personally was thinking a intense MMO world on the lines of Mass Effect, but done by Bungie. Seeing the E3 demo, then the beta and now the finished release product, I feel robbed? How the hell can you justify paid DLC at this point. I've only leveled my titan to level 10, and I'm struggling to keep playing this game. I don't even think you are truly listening to your gaming community.

          • I made a realization today. Me and my friends have been attempting to beat Vault of Glass for 3 nights straight. I have stayed up until 1:30 AM for 3 nights in a row to beat this horrible and artificially difficult boss--for the last 3 days. My school has suffered, my sleep has suffered. I have done nothing but level up my Level 27 Hunter for the last 3 weeks since launch. I am inches from being done. I just finally bought my first Exotic from Xur, and was in the process of leveling it up, after I scrapped my fully upgraded Legendary helmet--and got nothing from it. Yeah I love that, you have no problem with me PUTTING IN A DOZEN SHARDS but I can't get any of them back thanks Bungie. But no, I realized there is absolutely no point in even trying to upgrade my exotic to get to level 28 to do the Raid. My Legendary gear is otherwise at max level. The only Rare weapons I still have are a few extra secondaries and my heavy. I have essentially beaten the game. There is no reason for me to go forward. Why bother? I will likely get crap from the Vault. Farm for another 20 hours to get to 29 finally. Then I'm at Bungie's whim for when they release new content. That is ALL that has been driving me the past week and a half. A number in a menu. There is no difference between Levels 21-29 other than an arbitrary damage modifier on enemies and what missions we can do--missions that I beat on launch week. I have no reason to continue to play this game, I beat everything on day 5. And now I am done. If I want a fun little addictive game I'll go play some TF2 for PvP and Left For dead for PVE. At least I can play with 4 friends instead of 3 in that game, and it has been out for what, 6 years?

            • I'm 29 now. Doing repetitive bounties and same strikes over and over again is getting too boring for me. Destiny need to bring up more and more content to keep up with the core players. The queen's wraith is a huge disappointment, we all thought it was gonna be something new.

              • Priority #1 should be to get Raid and Weekly matchmaking implemented immediately. This would immediately put this game over-the-top in terms of awesomeness and nonstop addictingness. Most people don't have their friends on in the morning and afternoon to do these more difficult type of matches. From Level 24 and up....all that people have available as 'group fun' are the Level 24 strike matches....which fly through it in 2 seconds....where everybody's trying to be more special than the next guy...and finish #1 in kills for the Strike Match. Adding Matchmaking to Raids and Weeklies would IMMEDIATELY bring the awesomeness back to higher level ups. Lets just get this implemented ASAP, and not worry about other little panzy stuff like weapon balancing....Shotgun nerfing , and whatever else. I DONT CARE if people leave during Raids or Weeklies. Plus, you get rewards for each stage of the Raid...even if we just past the first part and people start leaving...at-least we won some new shards for our armor. Usually other people join-in when searching anyway. Would REALLY appreciate an official response from Bungie on this. Even if it's just a timeframe update on WHEN it'll be introduced / implemented. I saw on their Dev Notes yesterday that their already working on introducing a Mic / Headset option before the year's over. Which is awesome...and which i'm guessing means we'll be able to group up ONLY with people with Mics / Headsets on. This would work hand-in-hand with Raid Matchmaking ...as it would pretty much be mandatory for Raids.

                  • Couple of things.... 1) Why can't I just invite PUBLIC to come along with me on the single player. It's boring alone, more fun with others. Why can't I say, "I'm playing the campain, ANYONE want to join me? Should allow match making, it would be a good way to make new friends! 2) There should be respawnable chests of ammo in boss fights, especially ones where there are respawnable groups of enemies. Sick of running out of ammo, and respawning only to say, great, 10 bullets left 3) In raids, once everyone dies, before respawning, maybe have options to allow for more ammo drops, or an easier mode, but less rewards (once you add rewards in the first place!), etc... Not everyone can play this game on heroic level. I have a full time job, kids, etc... But I still like gaming, but should feel like I'm punished because I can't devote my life to this game. 4) Why do we have to go all the way back to the tower to do things. Why don't you allow us to decode things if we are in hour ship. Just have a interface where we call into the guy and decode stuff. Same goes for all the things like messages, gunsmith, etc... Why make me fly all the way back to the tower to do mondaine tasks!!!! 5) How about adding a mode for those that want to have fun, but only have 30 minutes. How bout a challenge where up to 6 of you get sent to a map, and the first one to kill 10 enemies gets a reward, the others don't. Or you all wager so much glimmer, or other resources, etc... and the pot goes to the winner. Something short, fun, and rewarding 6) Drops should be based on your level, and none of that "you got a legendary drop" fly all the way back to the tower.... Sorry, it's a level 18 vest. That way sucks. 7) How about allowing you to call your ghost to help fight, and you can level up your ghost, the more you level the ghost, the more ammo, or better drops, etc... And the better the ghost can fight.

                      Well said. I agree with much of what the OP said and many others. My number one grief with Bungie on Destiny is CONTENT! I paid my $70.00 for content. Not rehashing over and over and over again the content that was included for a $40.00 game. That's right, I've recieved more content in games that cost half the price. With not one but two DLCs already being advertised and toted as expanding on the story virtually at launch is just plain low. My $70.00 game is going to become a $100.00 game (assuming I can still get both for 35.00 at the time ) if I ever wish to bother with the DLC. Now spread that kind of content release frequency over the 10 year life span that has been tossed around and I think most of us can do the math on what that'll end up costing players. Given the amount of story content thus far it's WAY to much! Yes, the game is stunning to look at. Kudos to the visual design team! That only gets you so far though.... I could excuse and accept all other issues with the game that can be fixed through updates and patches. Mechanics can be fixed on the fly, so to speak. Content simply isn't there. I think Bungie should offer up more content at no cost to their fans and still be thankful to those that continue to stick with it in the hopes that improvements are inbound. In the end the I'm starting to get bored with Destiny. I'm only still playing it in the hopes of feeling like I've got my money's worth. Bungie, you'll need to prove to me that buying your DLCs that should have come with the original purchase will be worth it. I'm sorry but that's simply the facts.

                      • I've seen this before with other games (Bioware Dragon Age 2 and ME3). Several well spoken individuals do an excellent job outlining the LEGITIMATE problems with a game. The not so well spoken create a slurry of semi-useless negative feedback that drowns out many of the good points that are easy to address. Then in comes the fans of the game, which have even fewer well thought out counter arguments, instead they pretty much completely avoid legitimate issues because they have no counter or make false arguments and misdirects (the bullet sponge strike bosses, poor RND loot engine, lack of story content, etc). The fans proceed to pat each other on the back with how much they enjoy the game, while telling everyone else to shut-up. Well if that is all you want to do, go enjoy the game and be silent. The alternative is that many of these fans are social media experts for Activision and Bungie, and are just trying to change the conversation.

                      • Lvl 28, easily can obtain lvl 29 tomorrow, but whats the point. For me destiny is done for some time, ill check in once in a while, see whats up. But im not going to play until alot more content, new content, not old but harder, is released. Bungie i still believe you can do it, but until you put the effort in, im not going to.

                        "Will this ship sink or will it sustain?" Well.. I've left the ship already. There are still my connection problems (bee, in specific game modes) and there is not enough content to motivate me to play this game any longer. Those daily challanges/bounties are a pain in the ass.. they are not fun, they are work. All these worlds have nothing worth exploring and honestly.. there is less going on than on Halo: Reachs singleplayer maps if you ask me. And I also never got an "connection" to this games lore, just because I am not interesting to read about a games lore on Bungie.net or Wikipedia. I want to experience the games story and lore while playing it and IN the game. So I had no idea for the whole time whats going on in this world. I never saw all those aliens attack our city, instead I saw myself walking to these aliens homes and killing their leaders for no reason (getting told that you have to kill someone is no reason). This game has a great gameplay, but without an actual story and a lot more content there is not much that could hold me there. That's my opinion after two weeks.. I'm one of those people that you can not motivate with "loot". I just don't care. My warlock owned this legendary helmet almost two weeks before I decided to wear it. Why? It may have been better, but my blue helmed looked a lot cooler. The only reason he wears that helmet now is because it fits somehow to his new outfit. You see..? Those light levels do not motivate me in any way. There is no way you'll keep all your fans for months or even years with the current content. There are a lot of cool games coming out in the next two months. A lot of people will just trade their version of Destiny in to buy one of those games.. just because they don't want to do the same stuff over and over again. I mean.. why should I even bother to play this game? Is it so I get "better" equipment and people in this forum can't troll me every day because I still own so many blue items? Why? I don't care about internet trolls or that one level 28 strike you've got there.. I was hoping for a lot more stuff in this game, Bungie. .. there isn't even a CTF mode in the crucible. I loved playing CTF in Halo, I did it almost every time I've played it online. Now there are only modes similar to classic deathmatch modes. There are a few objectives in them, but they are still deathmatches as long as your team gets points for kills.

THAT. You say it SO well. I actually joined a clan that I was going to do the Raid with.. I hoped I'd get to around level 27-28 by the time it launches. I've played every single day and I'm STILL level 25. And some people have the NERVE to say "Well go earn gear from the RAID you noob" .. W..what? I'm not going to go in the RAID as a level 25! I honestly feel like this game is forcing me to PvP like everyone else, every day.. That seems to be the only place where the random rewards are constant and eventually give you something worthwhile. On the PvE side; The queens kill orders have been the only thing that has earned me progress. I got a shiny new helmet I could use. Too bad I got that HELMET FIVE TIMES IN A ROW NOW. And at the same time, my legendary scout rifle needs some ascendant shards for an upgrade... Uh. Any tips where I could try taking control of my progress and go EARN THEM? Oh, it's based on sheer complete and utter luck? Oh ok. Can't wait for Driveclub to come out :)

                        • I would have to agree with all points stated. After trying all three classes (Being a warrior healer type in most games... in this case the under-developed and practically worthless Titan) Im seeing that every (heroic/epic) stylle challenge plays and benefits the warlock/hunter without any remorse. After being obliterated by hunters/warlocks in pvp, this became a growing reason to scrap it. Most games reward you for playing as your class, like your class. I find it hard to believe that EVERYONE can take down ANYONE in pvp with 2 melee strikes, REGARDLESS of the supposed ARMOR rating and awesome warrior class. Its not hard to see why humanity is dying. On to the PvE, almost all of the modifiers punish the Titan for being played like a titan. Melee is FORBIDDEN. You will die for using the one thing thats supposed to differentiate them. Close Combat. Nope, we see the usual activision CoD BS thrown to reward twitch-style gaming. Not tactics and team work. The hunter practicall homes in on a target he melees. Efficiently and effectively. The Titan? Swings wildly and with little realistic range and fails to hit things RIGHT NEXT TO HIM. The Warlock? Ranged melee with SPLASH effect! These are basic issues, maybe I'll sit down and relate my depressing slog of the 3 types since I wanted to understand what I was doing wrong. Turned out, nothing. My Titan is just wortless in comparison to the way the game is designed. So what am I doing now? Mostly looking for a game to play that doesn't reward statistics, but the gamers who made them what they are.

                            I'm very happy to see someone with a strong opinion taking the time to explain it in a calm and well thought out fashion. Sometimes, I get the feeling people are content shouting about how wrong they feel something is, but never bother to say why they feel that way or what would be a better alternative. I don't get that they don't stop and think how they would feel if they were in the place of the person they direct this senseless anger towards... Ps: I for one won't be missing the loot caves :p

                          • Got bounty "Defeat Sepiks Prime" yesterday evening, naturally instead of just hitting the lair @ level 8, I did strikes till it showed up @24. Completed strike, got no bounty, no drops. Aggravating, yes, Understandable however. It is the Internet after all. Did @ level 8 got bounty got legendary Suspiciousface.jpg I totally get the random drop thing. "legendary tale with every piece etc" And while it's legendary in some ways, there is truly nothing epic about me running over a dreg by accident and getting a sick item. Would have rather defeated a merciless beast and a swarm of angry baddies and been rewarded accordingly. Content difficulty must* have an effect on the outcome other than aggravation and disappointment. Despite all this I find a lot of the content truly engaging and I enjoy it deeply. I just want some in game output. [spoiler]*has to[/spoiler]
