Anyone remember that quote? What ever happened to that? In the beta, countless times I drove my sparrow off a ledge to an area that looked explorable, only to find that going there just killed me. It felt like all of Old Russia was the size of Forge World from Halo. I hardly considerate it to be worthy of the "Open World" title. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the beta. The only thing that disappointed me was the explore mode. I expected to be spending most of my time in the game on explore, just, you know, exploring, but the gamemodes' name isn't really true to itself when you know the whole map of Old Russia after about an hour of gameplay. The "open world" in Destiny is a bit disappointing. I doubt those small areas that are blocked off will make the area feel much bigger, either. Anyone feel the same?
Edit: I made this thread right after the beta, before the game came out. Everyone got mad at me and freaked out. They all claimed, "It was just a beta." No-one really gets game betas that are available two months prior to release. Those aren't betas, they're demos. No-one believed me. Then, the game came out. And everyone began praising this thread. Funny.
I believe that if Destiny wasn't overhyped/over-advertised, AngryJoe wouldn't be flipping out. It is a GREAT game, it just doesn't live up to its pre-game hype. $1,000,000 was too much of an advertising fund, Activision.

we have too wait, but if its in the real game still the same (invisible ceilings, walls) i would be disappointed. i agree also that the area's blocked off, doesnt make the old russia on the surface any bigger. but there will be allot to discovered again. some new secrets within the Wall.

There were a few areas and underground tunnels that I came across and was immediately met with the ?? Level mobs which did one shot people who tried to see the areas they were hiding. So I think the old Russia that was playable was only a glimpse of what it will be at full release.

It was disappointing. Explore needs something more! It was horribly boring. I think instead of random bounties they should have had a bunch of small story quests like the elder scrolls. Each vanguard guardian having their own quest line you follow. Each faction having their own quest line you follow. Having tiny quests you receive from random NPCs in the tower, like the gunsmith, Cryptarch, ect. People's quick and easy answer to this disconcertion is, it was Beta. Well I don't think that cuts it. They haven't given any indication that what we experienced in beta is different than the final game. They have simply said There is more of it. More of boring exploration mode. More places to do the same thing over and over again.

7 답변Actually in the Alpha those areas that were "Closed off" in explore mode were explorable. and yes they made the map pretty large, though with that said you could only go so far until your were "killed" due to being outside the real map.. Also note: the closed area in the train station (far right side of the map where you go left to do the dungeon) was still closed even in the beta. For the Beta there were plenty of other regions on old Russia that you simply couldn't explore due to the lvl 20 mobs one shotting you when you got close.. (think the area underground with the lvl 20s, the hive in the dungeon area, there's the spot under the wrecked ship near mission 5 area, along with the open area that's full of lvl 20s as you go further north on that same map. So once you are able to get to lvl 20 the world does get larger.. and like most other open world games there are some areas you cannot get too right from the start due to the difference in player and mob levels.

13 답변I was wondering why they didn't make the game bigger, why do open world games have borders? Why can't you just keep going and going in an infinite direction? Maybe it's some console hardware limitation. They (Bungie) clearly stated we could go anywhere we saw and since we couldn't in the beta we should all complain. Also same complaint about multiplayer maps .....yeah why can't they go on forever in all infinite directions?? LMAO

8 답변That's what I loved about the Fallout games and Skyrim. You could explore as far as your level, weapons and skill allowed you to. I wasn't a huge fan of how each space was a largely enclosed zone with a linear progression to the next zone. Locked doors also irritate me. We are guardians with a rocket launcher for crying out loud. We can manage to break down a door? Block it with rubble or a cave in or a massive steel beam or something. Don't just make it a piece of graphic on the wall. Don't get me wrong, I loved the game but would have loved a bit more of a less linear approach to some of the areas.

34 답변This was the thing that killed all my hype for destiny. Not even excited anymore. Still getting it, but destiny isn't and never will be the greatest game ever, and its been overhyped to the point where fans will blindly and relentlessly defend it and bungie. The game is small Year long timed exclusive content from main game AND dlc is pretty shady Obviously something has gone down at bungie to drive joe and marty away The game is fun, it really is. But it isn't deserving of all of the constant praise and no criticism. Unpopular opinion, ready for your rage. Destiny is nice, but it isnt the best.

Let's just wait until release before you get disappointed with something we really haven't fully experienced.

12 답변I understand how you feel about the size thing. At least old Russia per say. The moon though was pretty large though in my opinion. To be honest though I'm happy that the game is not as large as planetside for example. I love planetside for its size but at the same time 90% of it gets overlooked by just flying by it and never actually doing anything there. I enjoy the fact that where you fight makes you feel that you and your enemies have a purpose there. Not just some extremely large world with copy paste groups of enemies throughout it. If dlc and fututre games add on more areas to planets like earth with more places than old russia as large as what we explored on the moon I would be up for that in a heartbeat.

1 답변I still think part of old Russia was cut out in the beta, where the golden chest count was. Not worried if the size is the same as the beta, it was super fun.

14 답변I do feel the same way. I think that Bungie's push to make Halo 2 the "best game ever" was the last time that sort of thing really happened. Had it been completed, it would've had a massive campaign and of course the revolutionary PvP. With Destiny, I feel like that isn't as profitable. What concerns me is that Activision is likely withholding content from the main release so they can sell the DLC, but if I remember correctly, Destiny has to maintain an above-96 (or 98?) score on Metacritic in order for their contract with Activision to not be considered void. Something like that was gleaned from the legal docs that were released way back when. So they're choking what Destiny should be right off the bat, but also expecting it to outperform the competition - while it's choked. If there's any studio that can pull something like this off, it's Bungie - Valve doesn't have the discipline, EA doesn't have the talent - but it's still incredibly uncertain. That's what I feel. Bungie wants to give us the "Explore EVERYWHERE" for $60, but the finances don't work that way. If I remember correctly, it was Joe who said that we were having the open world/could explore "those mountains" and Joe is gone.

3 답변I'd say let's not judge things too quickly with the sampler we all know as the beta. How many of you guys explored the moon while it was open? My friends and I got absolutely lost (and loved it) while we were playing through the story mission for the second time around. We went deeper and deeper into the moon. It was a solid 45 minutes before we finally reached the end of the line - doors that were shut but will surely be open in the final version of the game. One last point - Bungie is into this thing for the long haul (at least 10 years), so it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense from a business standpoint to open up 100% of the world they've already put $$ and R&D into right off the bat. That being said, I really hope they won't nickel and dime us so that we can finally explore all of the world they (I would say promise, here, but they really didn't) plan to offer. Just my 2 cents. _Ohuigin
