Even though the discount was supposedly open to people of all faiths, it was clearly geared toward Christians and offered no alternatives for atheists.
Freedom From Religion Foundation attorney Liz Cavell wrote a letter to the diner’s owner Mary Haglund a few days ago warning her of the legal repercussions of her actions:
It does not matter that the promotion is available to customers regardless of which god they pray to. Your restaurant’s restrictive promotional practice favors religious customers, and denies customers who do not pray and nonbelievers the right to “full and equal” enjoyment of Mary’s Gourmet Diner. Any promotions must be available to all customers regardless of religious preference or practice on a non-discriminatory basis.
We urge you to discontinue this discriminatory discount. If you truly wish to reward gratitude in customers regardless of religion, you must do so in a way that does not single out customers who pray for favorable treatment.

[link]

3 답변I don't think they understand the law. An owner of a business is free to deny or encourage service to anyone they want.

What a stupid thing to get upset about. Does the woman who wrote the letter think it's discriminatory to give discounts to seniors, or children for that matter? PC morons just can't help but complain and be offended by everything.

O Mighty Lord Satan, by whom all things are set free, I cast myself utterly into thine arms and place myself unreservedly under thy all powerful protection. Comfort me and deliver me from all of the hindrances and snares of those who wish to harm me, both seen and unseen. Visit justice and vengeance upon those who seek my destruction. Render them powerless and devastated. Direct their malice to return upon them tenfold and to destroy them who would resent my being. Fill my soul with thy invincible power, strengthen me, that I may persevere in my service, and act as an agent of thy works and a vessel of thy will. This I ask in your name, almighty and ineffable Lord Satan who liveth and reigneth forevermore. Ave Satanas

3 답변Today at BAM I waited in line for nearly 15 minutes to get a coffee. When the lady in front of me got served she received a 20% discount for the long wait. The man who served her left to serve someone else & a woman took his place to serve me. I didn't receive a discount at all for the long wait, want to know what I did? I got over it and enjoyed my coffee. Get over yourself and enjoy what you've got prick.

1 답변Is it a privately owned company? Well then oh well, they are allowed to give discounts. But I would like to point out that this, under Christian beliefs, is sort of ridiculous. Jesus specifically taught against praying in order to be seen, yet this restaurant specifically reinforced it. If they were Christians, they seemed not to know much about Jesus' teachings. But still, I think it was petty to go after them for this. They are a privately owned business, they can do what they want. Just like some activist groups are more likely to hire homosexual individuals, this should be allowed. This is 'Murica, after all. I have been discriminated against, and ya know what? Oh well. I lived.

5 답변작성자: relliK42 8/8/2014 8:37:23 AMPromotional offers and discounts appear in businesses everywhere. Restaurants allow kids to eat for free. Amusement parks allow families access to a large bundle of tickets for a discounted price. Pubs give veterans a free beer on the house. Various stores give discounts to college students. Athletes of an accredited team get special offers on gear at various stores. I'm being very general, as I can pull up these examples from various places, but I know you and everyone else here has come across some sort of promotion. I've covered age, status, and occupation. There are places that give special offers to people of various ethnically backgrounds and race. Do you walk into your local restaurant and complain that the kids get to eat free? Do you complain when a family gets a special ticket bundle? Do you flip off the college kid for getting a discount on his new laptop? Seriously this thread is, to be blunt, dumb. "I'm ok with various promotional offers across all these businesses, but I don't get a discount because I'm not religious? -blam!- it. Time to get a lawyer." Next we'll have adults suing the local burger joint as retired citizens and children get a free drink with their meal.

It's nice to see that a family gave thanks at a public diner regardless of the glares, and even nicer that a restaurant owner who shares the faith took notice." *reads the article*
Even though the discount was supposedly open to people of all faiths, it was clearly geared toward Christians and offered no alternatives for atheists. 3 답변So this bothers you, that some people whom you don't even know, eating at a restaurant that you will NEVER even go to, get a discount for something you DON'T believe in? I just don't get how people let the smallest things control their emotions.
