I'm assuming the Traveller isn't the human saviour everyone thinks it is, I'm assuming it's more of a beacon that guides the Darkness to a planet to consume, like Fantastic Four 2 style.
I'm wondering what you guys think?

Ha! Didn't think of it that way. Would be interesting for it to be a Silver Surfer scenario. The Traveler is the Darkness' herald who finds value in us and decides to defend us rather than feed us to the Darkness. I like it. Probably not the case, but cool theory.

Then again, maybe the Traveller was just letting us ripen, so that our planets were more valuable. Gotta get the pig fat before the slaughter. It has been established in the first missions of the Beta, that our technology is coveted by the Fallen. Technology that we surely didn't have, and would not have developed, had the Traveller never showed up. Hmmmm......

The Traveller is what is referred to in Sci-fi as the BDO or Big Dumb Object. It is a common trope in our modern storytelling- the mysterious powerful object/artifact/statue etc... It is rarely explained in any detail but rather taken as a given in that story world. It functions similarly to what Alfred Hitchcock called the "McGuffin" which is to say it's a storytelling device that gets the story moving but the story isn't really about that thing per se. A briefcase that is never opened but everyone is after it kind of deal.
