The picture above is an MMO a bunch of players in the same place at the same time killing the same shit doing the exact same mission. But the players themselves have nothing to do with each other, there just doing the same shit.
Unlike in destiny where you will be by yourself or in a group of three doing the same mission together. Without any other players around at all, well except for that lone wolf that could be passing by but that's one player and not a thousand other people in the exact same area as you, doing the same mission at the same time and like I said the lone wolf is passing by not joining you in your mission. So Destiny is definitely not an MMO. It just has some aspects of one like everybody being in the city together. It's a shared world shooter guys something completely new take the best of everything put it in the one that's why It can't be classified as either or I can just say its a first person shooter and that's it, I can say its an MMO and that's it, I could say its an MMORPG and that's it, but no I say its a shared world shooter because it's new it's original and it's not entirely 1 or the other game genres that it has aspects of.

1 답변After watching that 7 minute game play I realized that Destiny isn't an MMO, because from what i've seen their PvE aspect can't even be considered PvE more like Player vs AI.

2 답변it's an mmo, just of a different breed. mmo literally means Massively Multiplayer online. Destiny is online, and has a lot of players, all playing together in a shared world. It's not WoW, it's like borderlands+halo with benefits, plus a persistent online world

1 답변It is an MMO, but Bungie does a great job of hiding the fact that it is. It's not meant to look or feel like an MMO. We have a hard time classifying it as such because we've never seen an MMO like it before. It's not your conventional MMO, but it's massive, it's multiplayer, and it's online, which is the definition of "MMO".
-
1 답변the only reason they dont want to call it an mmo is because it creates a certain mindset, and many people like myself tend to shy away from the classic mmo

2 답변작성자: Nayden 4/27/2014 2:39:14 PMThere are many variants of MMO's...however i will give one example. THE BEST EXAMPLE TO THINK OF AS TO WHY DESTINY IS NOT AN MMO.. With an MMO like WoW which hass Multiple servers.. you could log on to your usual Server and it could be DEAD because you have logged on during a time when everyone is at work in rl or it is just a new Server, so you could have only 200-300 people on the server and you play for an hour and you could literally NOT SEE A SINGLE PLAYER within that time. WHY? Because in an MMO like this the server has a CAP, there is no Match-making going on behind the scenes, everyone is Dumped onto a multitude of servers, so you could end up having a ghost World or having 200-300 people meeting up in one location for a Dance emote. Destiny is different, it is CONSTANTLY match-making behind the scenes when you are in the open world public spaces, so Destiny's world IS ALWAYS POPULATED no matter what time of day as it runs of a single mega server.

13 답변It's an MMO Despite what they say, it's an MMO You can have "different factors" as they say, but in the end, it's still an MMO

2 답변Hmm it's a very tough term with " shared world shooter ". Destiny is an ever evolving world that focuses on teamwork ( it's catered to being played with others, but can be played solo ) and the interaction with others. It matches you with others in the blink of an eye in public events/ raids/ strikes/ mp without a loading menu. Destiny wants you to enjoy playing with others and I personally think it's a new type of genre all together. A mash up of fps, rpg, mmo, action, fantasy etc. Its got something for everyone. It's god tier.

작성자: The Grizzled Ancient 4/27/2014 2:06:07 PMIs it massively multiplayer and online? Then it's technically an MMO. This is Bungie doing for the MMO what they did for the FPS: finding ways to tailor the genre to the console platform. But I guess it'll really come down to how many people can play together at one time and whether that number is large enough to be considered "massive", if not then it's not technically an MMO.

37 답변Doesn't understand there can be variants of the same genre. Just like how there are different shades of colors.

1 답변Who cares if it is or isn't? It is a pseudo-genre game, takes elements from RPG, FPS and MMO roots. They looked at what people love and made an archetype. Close Thread.
From what I know about this game I would consider this a MMO. I mean SWTOR is similar. Groups: SWTOR is group missions 4 peeps. Destiny is Groups missions 3 Peeps. Raids: 8 peeps in SWTOR and this game I would imagine a raid is 6, pretty darn close. Solo: I can solo in almost every single MMO except EQ1 to max level. Destiny I'm sure I can level to max level. Neverwinter is a very limited MMO small groups, Zero raids, but a huge hub. I bet the city you will see a lot of other players in Destiny. I'm not saying this is a full blown MMO, but man does it seem to have all the great qualities of one. I sure hope it takes the best of an MMO. Also I'm drunk, but the Penguins won tonight soooo WOOO HOOOO!!!!
I like what this guy just said and this was my response. To be drunk you sure do make sense lol. it does take the best aspects of an mmo, and put them together with the greatness of first person shooter. that's why there's a new age in video games, and its called shared world shooter and bungie is starting the movement.

12 답변MMOs aren't defined the amount of players on screen at once. I don't get why people can't understand that there can be variation within a genre. Cherry and Maroon are different colors, but they're both still considered Red.

3 답변Destiny, while not described as an mmo by Bungie, possesses many of the features that one might expect to see in one.

2 답변Not sure anyone is dead wrong for referring to it as an MMO. I mean, Destiny is massive and it does seem to have a focus on online multiplayer. But "shared world shooter" is probably the best way to describe it.
