For some games the graphic do need to be good like CoD and BF. They need to be high resolutions and frame rates so you can see every thing that is happening and have a fluid GAME.

Every 4xs RTS game i have seen through development has the devs going into the universe first and then working on PvP if they have extra money. Game play is god! Example: minecraft

It can look amazing, it can have an interesting story, but if it plays like shit then it's a shitty [i]game[/i]. Games don't have to focus on gameplay to be good though, look at twin souls, that thing with Ellen Page and the Ghost. It's an interactive movie really, but it looks amazing and has a great story. I really didn't do it justice there btw <.< It works the other way too, Minecraft - No story, Cartoony/crap but in a good way graphics but solid gameplay and replayability in the hundreds if not thousands of hours. A good game is a good game, it's hard to put it down to just one thing or the other though.
