Is control scheme related to skill level?

So I'm sure most of you have seen the revealed Destiny controller layout by now. What do you guys think? I mean I'm 95% sure we'll be able to tweak it, but how comfortable do you think you'll be with the default? Also do you think someone can be comfortable with a control scheme and still play badly with it? It seems that most big shooters these days are adopting the "COD control scheme" or something close to it. They aren't all exactly the same, but they all use left trigger to zoom and most use the right stick to melee. Even Halo 4 has it as an option (named 'fishstick') I'm not complaining. I'm comfortable with it, and I think its a very fluid and practical layout, but I can't ignore the fact that I'm just not as good at COD as I was/am at Halo. In Halo I use Bumper Jumper and my KDR varies between 1.4 and 1.7. I'm not the best but its decent. Now... My KDR in COD (Ghosts, specifically) ranges between 0.4 and 0.7. That is the opposite of decent. I'm... I friggen suck. But I still enjoy it. Destiny's control scheme isn't the same as COD, in fact its something newish that I've never seen before, but it does zoom with the left trigger which I think is one of the most important aspects of a shooters button layout. Am I (and others like me) going to suck at Destiny, or is skill more related to the flow and feel of a game than its control scheme? Post Script: Can we talk about how radical it is that we'll be able to dance? And am I the only one who thinks that it being down on the d-pad is bungie telling us to "get down with our bad selves?"
