I'm sure a lot of you have seen this video, and I guess we're not "supposed" to all start the big discussion until the 29th of October, but I'm an impatient SoB, so let's TALK about this thing already! Like a lot of people on the internet, I REALLY like the idea of phonebloks; a phone you can customize with interchangeable parts that fit together like lego bricks and swap out the parts that get broken or need updating instead of buying a completely new phone every few years or so for several hundred dollars and a multi-year contract. BUT, I'm very skeptical about whether this thing will happen or not. After all, [b]this isn't an upcoming product or a patent for something that can be made in the future; it is just an idea[/b]. Before Phonebloks becomes a reality, a lot of carriers and companies have to invest money into R&D to make it a working thing and then all agree with each other on a universal open platform they can all use to sell their own "bloks" to consumers. I think getting that level of cooperation from companies that are already competing with each other will be the biggest hurdle for this idea, to say nothing of the possibility of Phonebloks possibly being less profitable than selling consumers entirely new handsets year over year. But what do you guys think?
