I read the first one and found it pretty sickening. It's gross. I love watching walk through a for the point and click game but the whole thing is just dark, sad, depressing, and gruesome. And it feels like it's one of those things that will never end. Kirkman can just keep adding and killing off people to drag the series on.

I read some of the first comics and liked them, so I borrowed the first like 8 smaller compilation books. [spoiler]I just got the the point where they are in the community and Andrea is trying to get set up as a sniper in the church tower. Rick just got given his gun back, I think. It's been a while.
