Hey Everyone, Now that more information on the next generation consoles has been released and Bungie has confirmed a 2014 release date for Destiny, let's delve into predicting when we'll finally be able to get our hands on this game. I'll get things going by giving you my analysis. The 2014 release date comes as no surprise to me. I think we all knew there was no chance of Destiny being released anytime before the traditional holiday release period. Nobody should have expected the game to be ready before then. Also, Destiny wouldn't have been coming out before any of the next-gen consoles, which even before E3 were predicted to come out during the holiday season this year. Furthermore, Activision wouldn't have possibly allowed Destiny to come out anywhere near the same time as their pet project, Call of Duty: Ghosts. From the beginning of the Bungie-Activision partnership, Destiny was always going to play second fiddle to CoD. Therefore, CoD was given the holiday release date time slot instead of Destiny. So then, we should naturally be expecting Destiny to come out only when sales on the new CoD have slowed to a crawl. I'm thinking that by February or March at the latest, enough gamers will have lost interest in Ghosts to pick up a new game, which is when Destiny will step in. That month prediction might be off because I couldn't find any good monthly sales records to back myself up, but I think the theory itself is accurate. (If anyone can direct me to some good monthly sales records on recent CoD games, I'd appreciate it). So then, assuming this is Activision's strategy, I think we can expect Destiny to come out in April 2014. The new game market won't be too strong at that time, giving Destiny a chance to get a big slice of the consumer pie. I don't think Destiny will be released any later than April, and here's why. We know that E3 will happen in June 2014, just as it always does. Activision will want to get Destiny out well before E3 happens because they don't want consumers to start looking too far ahead and allow people to pass on Destiny in favor of anticipation for games that will be shown at E3. E3 hype starts building in April and continues to build up until the event. And we know Destiny won't come out AFTER E3. It's too close to a finished product to wait that long, and if that was the plan Bungie wouldn't have been busting their butts to get something epic together for E3 this year. So, let's factor all this together. Assuming everything I said is somewhat accurate, and Activision and Bungie choose to go with a Tuesday early in the month for a release date, I think we'll be putting that Destiny disc into our consoles on... Tuesday, April 8th, 2014. (I would've said the first Tuesday in April, but I can't picture this game having an April Fool's Day release date, LOL) So there you have it. My prediction.
