"At least 10 structures are on fire in the town, including including West Middle School, 406 W. Shook St., and a dispatcher calling for multiple ambulances said “we do have a lot of injured here.”
“I live about a thousand feet from it and it blew my screen door off and my back windows,” Shelton said. “There’s houses leveled that were right next to it. We've got people injured and possibly dead."

3 답변I'm surprised I haven't seen any (although I'm sure someone has) try to draw a link between the Waco Seige in the early 1990's and this. Waco is a small town, it is pretty crazy for them to have two incidents like this. Waco Seige ended around the same time in April as this bombing I believe too.

4 답변I thought Ammonium nitrate by it's self is inert, right? It takes an oxidizer to become an active explosive. Depending on what you mix it with you get different types of explosive. Amomonium Nitrate mixed with aluminum powder gets you an explosive that reacts with impact, AKA Tannerite. Mixxing it with Diesel fuel gets you ANFO which is a high explosive. Does anyone know the chemistry of Ammonium nitrate exploding in a fire? I always thought it had to be mixed to be explosive.

Here's hoping no one died. ThT was a helluva explosion. Not PEPCON level disaster, but considering the proximity to the school, hospital, and surrounding neighborhood, we're very fortunate that hundreds weren't killed outright. The plant was closed, school was out, and most folks were headed home, so the timing was as good as it could have been. My prayers go out to the folks in West, Texas and the times they are facing ahead of them.
