If they ever made a triple A set in the Avatar universe, what style game would you like it to be?

Open world

Semi open world like God of War: Ragnarok

Linear levels that you can replay

A LEGO AtLA, TLoK and ASH game made by TT Games

Something else (explain in the comments)

We already have a fighting game, so outside of that, what do you think would work best? I personally think an open-world game would work best for something like Avatar, especially due to how expansive the world is. I’m picturing it where you pick your birth element and each one gives you a slightly different story and a unique origin. Obviously you’d be able to customize your Avatar, but depending on where you start in the cycle; it would affect your ethnicity. So if you choose to be a water bender Avatar, you’d be Inuit inspired, or if you chose firebending, you’d be Chinese inspired and so on and so forth. I’m not sure how you would swap between elements, perhaps the keypad/arrow keys. I think the game would have a lot of combos and play styles. You could play aggressively with firebending or more defensively with airbending. You could learn different sub bending skills as you progress like healing with water, lightning bending, lava bending (since metal bending won’t have been invented yet as I’m picturing the game as being set long before AtLA), maybe even meeting the legendary Guru Lahima and learning flight with airbending.

  • MMO... It would check all the boxes... It's a big detailed world... Lots of environmental freedom and exploration many options for character creation and factons... I don't think you should play as the Avatar though... just live in the world alongside the story... it makes the most sense... doesn't break lore and allows for a lot more options of what you can and can't do... I do believe the mechanic of bending should allow advantages and disadvantages based off of terrain and other environmental factors like fire being available to bend...or not really having a lot of water to work with in a desert etc... Post...

    • I think a fighting game was actually the best way to go. Bending is all about martial arts, so a fighting game is fitting. Second choice would definitely be a hack 'n slash, preferably 2D, because that would allow for more complex inputs. Also, forget AAA studios, I'd want to hand this off to the people who made Entropy Effect. If we're not following the story of the actual series, then I would actually say it's better to not play as the Avatar at all. It would be much more interesting to have four different classes based on the four elements. Preferably, pre-made characters, not customizable ones. Let's them give the characters more personality. Maybe have them all travel together as a group, or give them each their own stories, either way works. As far as how the level design goes, I think a mission based structure would be best for the class-structure. That way you can have specific missions hand-crafted for each character. A Metroidvania would work best if you were playing as the Avatar themselves, because gradually learning the elements just leans well into that structure, but as said, nah.
