Game was feeling bad on PS5 until I did this--PSA
I'm kind of obsessed about having the best possible connection to Destiny. So I've done a bunch of things about my connections throughout the years and lately with no one playing, I figured that this was it and there was nothing I could do if I'm playing people all around the world. Then I looked at the settings page and saw I had MTU set to 1500, I changed it to 1473 and everything seems fine and a lot better. PSA if you haven't touched it on yours.

PlayStation doesn't make it easy to find: go to Settings > Network > Settings > Setup Internet Connection. Highlight your active connection, Press the Options button on your controller, Select Advanced Settings, Change MTU Settings from Automatic to Manual.

That’s a general PS issue. Most routers aren’t set up to work at 1500. In fact I’m not sure it’s possible to set one up to run that properly. My limited knowledge on computers knows almost everything computing is 2^x, that’s why a gigabyte isn’t actually 1000 mb, it’s like 1024mb, because 1000 isn’t an even power of 2. 1500 is not an even 2^x number so I’m not sure it’s possible for it to actually run properly with that setting

Destiny is very strange & unique in that you have a direct connection to all 11 other players & your experience is at the mercy of their connection - the guy teleporting, that's their connection, not yours, the guy shooting you around a corner, yup it's them not you. There's nothing you can alter on your end that will guarantee you a better experience other than making sure everything is plugged in right & you've got minimum 5mb download.

In D1 I'm plagued by "beaver" issues while trying to enter the tower, which results in being kicked back to orbit. Read your post, changed the mtu in network settings to 1473. Twenty times in a row I managed to enter the tower from orbit without a single issue! Thanks for taking the time to share!
