The reason given for Guardian Ranks being rolled back on a Seasonal basis is to prevent a scenario in which a player gets to Rank 11 then takes two years off from playing, only to return to a markedly different end-game landscape filled with multiple balance adjustments, major updates to difficulty scaling and sweeping reworkings of the overall loot system. This roll back behavior is [i]intended[/i] to give players confidence that anyone with an 11 next to their name has at least a reasonable grasp on how the game currently works. This of course doesn’t work out exactly as intended given that carries and account recoveries can bring unengaged or disaffected players up to 11, while a non-zero number of skilled and knowledgable players who don’t feel the need to complete specific objectives just to “make number go up” will be content to stick to the sub-10 Ranks. I guess you don't play many ranked games or competitive modes. Most of which will reset every season or decay over time within any given season. That said - guardian ranks in D2 were supposed to demonstrate game knowledge (half baked system with shiite implementation) thus it made sense for them to decay as new content was released.

The rank system appears designed to encourage repeated play, season after season. Personally I have no interest in obtaining or keeping a rank as I think the system is a waste of time.

This is a joke right? There’s nothing wrong with the ranking system. It’s literally just a visual thing that takes a few hours each season to get to rank 11 if you really want it.

I don't think GR not being permanent isn’t the main reason people are put off the game in fact considering the current state of the game GR should be the last thing Bungie should change
