Buildcrafting, Unstable Core Costs, and Artifact Mod Management

Buildcrafting in Destiny 2 is still in a weird place. On one hand, the sandbox depth is probably the best it’s ever been, the number of viable builds, subclass synergies, artifact perks, and exotic interactions is amazing. But the systems around buildcrafting are making it harder than ever to actually enjoy that creativity, especially for players who are still leveling or returning. 1. Unstable Core Costs Are Killing Flexibility Swapping builds used to be as simple as slotting in a different set of armor. Now with Unstable Cores being required for masterworking gear, it’s borderline punishing. • You need thousands of Unstable Cores to level up just one full set of armor. • That means most players are forced into one build and can’t easily switch between loadouts. • It disproportionately punishes New Lights and mid-level players who haven’t hit 400 power+ yet. Buildcrafting thrives on experimentation. This system kills that. 2. Artifact Mods Still Aren’t Integrated Into Loadouts The fact that we still have to manually respec artifact perks every time we switch builds is baffling. • Loadouts were supposed to streamline the experience. • Artifact perks are central to how most seasonal builds function. • Having to rebuild artifact mods every time creates friction that shouldn’t exist. At minimum, we need a system to save and auto-apply artifact perks per loadout, especially with how short seasonal lifecycles are now. 3. Power Progression Is at Odds With Buildcrafting Leveling up should feel like empowerment. Right now, it’s the opposite. • You can’t “easily” experiment with builds until you’re at 400+. • Every power upgrade means committing to a single build until you’ve grinded out enough cores. • It creates an illusion of freedom but ends up locking players in place. The game is supposed to be about player expression. Instead, we’re locked behind currency walls just to try something new. Finally, I do commend Bungie for recent efforts on listening to the community, however late they are, the community has a voice and it should have been listened to in the first place. The more feedback goes unheard (or ignored), the more people stop caring. But good job anyway and keep it up to build momentum.
