Rise of iron is so underrated
Best time in D1 history tbh and then we had Age of Triumph w/ the extra raid skins, too bad they did all that only to have D2 launch not long after Imagine if instead they simply tacked on all that D2 was on top of D1 as a DLC (but first having D1 as a whole remastered and enhanced with what we got in D2 like edge grabbing to pull ourselves up, etc)? Wow that would've been good

“What was wrong with the formula…” Issue #1 Bungie was stuck with producing seasonal content thus having zero impact on the core game ever really moving forward via what we play in the core playlist. This is why Bungie starting using old seasonal content for nightfalls. To give a sense of “new”… but it failed due to said content was already played on hundreds of times. Ie it made destiny 2 beyond stagnant. Issue #2 Paywalls everywhere. Obviously a dlc… All old dlcs… Then dungeons… Then season passes… All of which have little to no impact on the core game and its true core playlist. Ie players were paying $100+usd to play a game that is nearly identical in its core playlist from 7 years ago minus removed content. #3 Said paywalls left behind players. Ie powerful drops, evolving game mechanics introduced through said content… All not being experienced by players who did not or could buy seasonal content. #4 The developers. Continuous crunch time. Continuous bugs due to a lack of quality control windows. This type of environment drains anybody thus the creative juices begin to decline. Hammering out an idea for a season to developing said season, then needing the next season 6-8 weeks later left no time for anything. #5 The player base. All the above with the seasonal approach(ie content that would be leaving), rng, seasonal activity difficulty tiers, players without seasonal passes… etc etc has split the player community too far apart. A plundered dwindling player base leaves new and returning players out in the cold. Destiny 1 was about a core playlist… raids, PvP, strikes, nightfalls, quests, exotic/secrets then we get dlcs that evolved said core lists. Destiny 2… raids +difficulty tiers, dungeons +difficulty tiers, gambit, PvP, strikes, onslaught, quests, exotic missions +difficulty tiers and exotic catalysts in higher tiers, AND the windowed seasonal content. Destiny 2 is that adhd friend that drinks too many Red Bulls. Where bungie is going is, kind of, back to the roots. And they have to pull the plug on the old approach so they can get back to a more cohesive approach that evolves the game as whole for everyone. It will take time… Hopefully Bungie pulls it off… But regardless, it will take time.

If you look back, that 3 year era - bungie as a whole - cared & tried. Look at what little drops like house of wolves added, for like £17. Look at taken king, it had crazy amounts of content compared to now. It's not even about the cost it's about what we get, I'd pay 300 a year if it was justified 😢 We've been whittled down slowly to accept absolutely minimum product for top dollar because there's no competition, which makes the decision to let it die years ago even more mind-blowing - they killed the golden goose.

Taken king was followed by a year of content drought.

They also didn't charge players for "episodes". You paid nothing and got little or nothing during the "content drought". AKA play a different game until the next DLC. Now you pay top dollar for next to nothing. The kind of stuff other live service games give out just to keep the players engaged. And if you don't stay on the hamster wheel, you'll be starting over from scratch if you come back.

You get more than you used to by a significant amount. Not starting over from scratch is why after 7 years, this game is so hard for new players to pick up from. They’re so far behind that it seems impossible to catch up. In no way do you start from scratch.

작성자: Ulzana 6/27/2025 9:08:03 PMCompared to what Fallout 76, Minecraft, GTA 5 and many other live games include in free updates, it's next to nothing. You're using Bungie as the yardstick - and even there Bungie's DLC get skimpier while prices go up. D2 is labelled free to play and has a cash store, and yet they charge a premium for DLC that can be blown through. Starting from scratch is what D3 was supposed to be. Writing over D2 and sunsetting everything is cheap at best, straight up theft at worst.

It's nice to see gearbox stepping up & finally going after destiny players, I suspect they smell blood in the water. I'm not saying it's for me, but look at what they're adding, titan strand super, grapple, extra skill trees & choices, double jump, Icarus dash, improved gunplay, a massive amount of endgame & post campaign content Inc a raid that apparently will make destiny raids look simple, the promise of more dlcs & vault hunters after year 1 concludes. Whether it all comes to pass ( I don't believe any Devs anymore) we'll see but they're saying the right things.

I won't buy it on release or pre-order like I did with Borderlands 2&3. The immature tone of BL3 turned me right off and left a sour taste. But if BL4 is even in the ballpark of the first two, I'll buy it sooner or later.

It's apparently much harder & serious than 3 with less silly humour, more dark, people like gothaluon who made his name is borderlands 2 is saying it's very much like 2 but a lot better & he's planning a year of content to build the borderlands twitch community back to whete it was many moons ago. He's a very good marker for what to expect i think but yes I'm waiting to buy my next game, it's a big decision as I'm a 1 game kind of guy & when I go I totally go. Right now I'm destiny, & I'm deciding between prophecy, borderlands 4 or blops 7 & that's my years grind. I've still hope for edge but 2noro could kill it dead

All of those also have extensive monetization. It seems pretty clear you don’t actually play this game.
Says the guy who joined in 2014. I was playing Bungie games in the 90s. Destiny since beta. All the games I mentioned surpass D2 in every way, including content & frequency - except gunplay.
Except you don’t this game. It’s evident, very evident.

If you mean the game that has taken many turns for the worse in the last couple of years, true. But today's game will be very different a month from now. So no point in even playing at the moment. Even though I do plan on playing through TFS campaign to complete the saga. Thankfully Sony gave it to me for free recently. Feel bad for the suckers that paid $100 less than a year before. That's Bungie's products nowadays in a nutshell: Buy it now before it's near worthless in a few months. And you still fall for it because fomo.
