It's aimed at a different audience & that was clever IF they intended keeping destiny going, which I believe was the original naive plan back in 2018. Now I think they can't wait to ditch it, if marathon is Fortnite 2.0 they'll tell Sony they can't handle 2 games & marathon is priority., if it flops Sony will close the studio. The reason it will fail imo, even if it's good, is the £40 price point. They'll lose such a huge audience for a minimal buy price. If theyre confdent they'd make it free. Sony learned nothing from concord, infact they killed concord before making it free to play, best guess is because the studio is in Seattle & sony hate how expensive it is there. Bungie are in Seattle too, it's not looking good tbh

Oh I think there's zero chance of that, but one of the big journos, either schrierer or grubb, said to succeed it needs to be Fortnite 2.0.

If marathon fails bungie will be gone by 2027. Despite what people think, destiny won't do much more than keep the lights on at the current decline rates & it would take drastic action to turn that around. Bungie are in Seattle, the most expensive place in the world to make games, Sony shut firewalk down very quickly when concord flopped, they too were in Seattle. For context, budgie rented a studio a few years ago in Seattle & the rent was 100m a year, bungies income from destiny that year was 300m if the websites showing earnings were true.
