New things aren’t supposed to excel at anything. It has to be a lateral addition or a worse addition. If it is accidentally better it needs to be nerfed.

I mean, with the state the game is in I wouldn't even fault it if they were serious. We have so many absolutely busted options, all we really need is stuff to bring other kits up to par. Like, slayer's fang isn't the best exotic shotgun in the game, because nothing is beating conditional finality, but if you need a good void shotgun it is one of the best. Has a lot of subclass synergy.

That's why I don't want them to buff it by giving it more damage, cuz we don't need more damage, but I feel like it doesn't have enough of a niche/provide enough utility. That's what exotics nowadays should do: fill a niche or provide some sort of utility. We have plenty of good damage options, so for an exotic to have a place in the game, it needs to fill a specific role, which Slayer's Fang doesn't really. It provides some utility, but not enough to justify taking up your exotic slot. I'd rather just use weakening void grenades or Hunter smoke bomb with a Repulsor Brace shotgun, and use my exotic slot for something better. I want Fang to feel good enough to be worth taking, it just doesn't right now.

I was serious. Although my statement was an oversimplification. I’m always for a buff, but this game has no power progression system so everything is adjusted for balance. Things that are too good will contribute to power creep, which isn’t the game design. That’s why we always see nerfs and buffs (and artifact perks) happen at the same time to shift the meta and shake up the game a little. You’re never any more powerful, but the loadout viability changes. Again, I oversimplified and of course there’s always exceptions to the rule.

Yeah, I agree completely with that, we shouldn't get anything that raises the power ceiling, the power we get needs to be lateral, like you said. Good exotics fill a niche where they excel, providing high value in one specific area or two, without raising the power ceiling and causing power creep. The problem is, at least to me, Slayer's Fang doesn't feel like it really fills any niche very well. It's not expanding our power laterally, it's just sitting on top of space occupied by existing exotics... if that makes sense.
