I think I might have to hire someone to exchange my 38k shards for me. Not looking forward to this.

Maybe wait until Thursday... IF they're going to give people other methods to liquidate shards... that info would come on Thursday. If nothing comes out regarding, then start burning them. The hope is... they'll still be viable for glimmer.
