You guys don't want to hear it but Red War isn't actually part of Bungie's plan with the witness. They only started making a real saga when they released Shadowkeep and the witness was first teased/introduced. As great as Red War is, it wasn't made when they were thinking about making connecting stories. Before Shadowkeep, it was just "the darkness". Just a placeholder that people could use their imagination with. Make their own theories. Bungie didn't have any of these Witness ideas at that time. Eventually they had to take the story somewhere eventually the darkness had to become known otherwise the story never builds coz we're just fighting the unknown baddy forever. Know what i'm saying? I want Red War back as much as the next person, but there's some food for thought.

To me the old Darkness was cooler. Making it into a (in my opinion) somewhat goofy looking character—probably to get that big bad guy finale idea across—was a bad play. I’m hoping they can turn it into something good in the DLC.

When they first revealed the witness as a character in a cutscene I felt a little confused and irritated. It didn’t seem to quite belong in the world of destiny. I mean the idea of the witness as this aggregate of a civilization basically bored stupid with itself is a pretty cool idea. The character model of it just didn’t quite sell it maybe? Take Oryx for instance, he was a much more conventional baddy ofc, but he kinda rocked it. Fearsome, brutal and uncompromising to a fault. When I look at the witness, I keep wondering - why is there smoke coming out of Mickey Mouse’s head?

Right now it just feels like 1 character that happens to refer to themselves in the plural. Here's hoping they pull it off yeah.
