Onslaught was fun for 5 minutes, but the reward structure is ruining the Into the Light content drop

Loot to Time Investment ratio: Onslaught has 1 chest on Normal and 2 chests on Legend per 10 waves with 2 chests on Normal and 3 on Legend at the final as well as 3 Trophy of Bravery coins rewarded with the chest drop that's 6 chests on Normal and 11 chests on Legend and 20 Trophies of Bravery for 2 loot box pulls at Shaxx for the entire event that lasts 45 minutes to over an hour. That's 8-13 total drops per run depending on difficulty. As an equivalent let's compare the Coil which we got just this season. You get 1 chest per completed Pathway and 1 secret chest in between each Pathway encounter that offers a Dreaming City weapon and a Wish engram for a total of 5 drops per Pathway and 6 chests at the end of a Platinum run that last 45 minutes to an hour. That's 15 chests and 25 total drops Into the Light lasts like a month and a half, why is this event so incredibly unrewarding compared to content that launched within the same season? Focusing Methods: So far the only method to focus loot is the new Attunement mechanic which I hear offers a 50% bonus to drop rate, by why can we not just simply focus loot just like every other bit of content in this game. Different isn't always good and this in my opinion isn't good. Vendor: Why can we not reset Shaxx to continue gaining loot from him as a vendor? Why can we not focus loot, especially shiny loot at Shaxx when this event is so short? Shiny drops: Between the past 2 days I obtained all of 1 shiny weapon drops, and over the past week I've probably put in at least 8-10 hours worth of grinding a day. We're over a week deep in an event that lasts maybe 7, and there are 12 weapons to grind. The Year 1 Ikelos weapons had a better drop chance in Escalation Protocol and those were static rolled and meant to be obtainable forever. Pure RNG drop systems have to be some of the worst you have people like me who go out and put their face to the grind wheel in Legend and then you have randoms who do not and may never step into the endgame who come out of it with a perfect rolled shiny drop. Like "Oh here's my perfect rolled shiny Midnight Coup and I don't even like Handcannons". Pure RNG systems put something worthwhile into the hands of people who didn't work for it and don't appreciate it. If it were up to me we'd never see a loot system like this in D2 again ever, it is resentment at this point

  • Gamers really forgot to play games for the simple pleasure of it being fun to play. Could the rewards be bumped? Sure, but even when I got it all, imma still hop in it because it’s a mode I’ve wanted from Destiny. Just pure chaos, I love it.

      The reward structure is fine. For the players that want to play to higher rounds maybe toss in an additional chest but you can do 3 10 minute legend runs easy and get 6 chests which drops the weapons and materials and takes only 30 minutes. This is more rewarding than most other activities in the game especially considering the quality of the weapons and perk pools. The shiny weapons are just a bonus and are functionally the same. They are a reward for dedicated players meant to be exciting to get, emulating the days of D1's dopamine rushes but minus being left out of something powerful like Gjallarhorn and Icebreaker.

      • Yeah the grind isn’t the issue. It’s the FOMO and the short time to grind stuff out that’s the problem. But luckily I’m not much of a grinder in this game anymore. Bungie broke that with the redrix broadsword quest, a very tedious long quest for a weapon that was mid at best. It got me taking a very long break from the game. And I get very bored with the game now. I’ll try and grind to get all the brave weapons but if I don’t idc. It’s not like I do raids or pvp to enjoy these weapons like that.

        • I’m gonna say something a lot of young people don’t enjoy hearing You’re not entitled to get everything you want in the game… I want Necrochasm but I don’t expect the game to make it simple and I don’t want to grind Crota so guess what? I’m not getting Necro. I want a better Indebted Kindness but I don’t want to farm the dungeon. So guess what? I’m stuck with what I got. GOD Rolls need to be very rare. It’s what gives them value. If everyone got them the game wouldn’t be worth playing. The feeling of getting that GOD Roll is what keeps people coming back. Also it literally takes 20-30 minutes to get the curated ones by farming the loot cave in GOA. They made every Coil weapon craftable and they are -blam!-, have no value and everyone has them. It also kills the activity once you obtain every craftable weapon which didn’t take long. I’ve been mainly a solo player playing since the first month of D1. I have a full time job and two kids. I’m the farthest thing from a streamer and love that RNG is back.

          • I’ve been thinking about this ever since people complained about both legend 50 wave runs not having enough incentive to do them and that shinys don’t drop enough for a lot of people. But why can’t ONE guaranteed shiny (that you’re attuning) drop from the extra chest at the end of a Legend 50 wave run? It’ll give people enough incentive to stay for the full 50 waves instead of dipping after 10-20, and that shinys will be a LITTLE bit more attainable for everyone (although you will have to complete one of the hardest activities in the game CONSTANTLY to get the best farming odds for you). It’s honestly a win-win for most everyone involved.

            • I’ve been grinding since it launched on both normal and legendary and have only got a single drop of the limited weapons. I get they want them rare. But the current drop rates are worse than dungeon/raid exotic drop rates.

                    I simply do not understand this take. I understand if you don’t find the content fun. “Fun” is a subjective experience. But to complain about the loot is just the very epitome of spoiled. It feels like this game has become a chore for so many. Every activity is a giant chore to get loot. If it’s such a chore, why are you still playing!? I’m simply enjoying onslaught and happy with my rewards . When I get a shiny weapon, I get excited. I’m not feverishly grinding for “god rolls” (idiotic concept, if you ask me). I’m simply having fun and taking the loot—which is plentiful between the guaranteed drops, purchases with trophies, and rewards from bounties. I’ve predominantly played normal runs, going as far as I can, and have received plenty of “shiny” and solid rolls. Yalll complain way too much.

                    • Bungie's idea that they have to keep this content until June is ruining everything. They've been doing this for several years now and they still haven't learned. Please extend rewards for hard work. If you give out lots of rewards and keep everyone happy, there will be no one left until June? Rest assured, people will come back until the release of the Elden Ring DLC.

                          • Honestly the mode is fun, but there is only so many times I can do it mentally. Im happy with the default for the Handcannon, maybe find a better one for Mountaintop, but outside of that...meh?

                          • 'Loot to time investment'. Let's look at that for this particular activity: You get a chest every 10 mins, which includes the weapon you want it to have, materials, and a token(s). That's on top of whatever random engrams drop and what you get from completing bounties. And if you don't want to do all 50 waves, you can just go up to the wave level you want, then start over. Farming chests that way. Yea, this is another example of 'it's yall, not the game'. The game gives away so much loot, that getting all that loot isn't 'fun' to some of yall anymore lol.

                              • The grind in Destiny is honestly not anywhere as unrewarding as many other games. All players want their time invested playing to be rewarded. I get that. I used to complain about crappy drop rates in the past as well. Problem is that when players haven’t seen just how unrewarding other games are loot wise compared to Destiny they write posts like this or like I read about the Iron Banner weapon drops a few weeks back. I took a break from Destiny and came back because of the reissuing of pinnacle weapons and peer pressure. It’s been fun. I personally don’t have any issue with the drops in onslaught. I’ve only completed the 50 1X but ran a bunch of 10s. I find the drop rates way better than what I was experiencing playing ARPG genre games like Diablo IV. Players can grind the end game boss encounter 100s and 100s of times trying to get the high powered weapons and armour pieces called Uber Uniques. These Uber items have a really low drop rate, really low, but in many cases are build defining for your character which is why the grind is there. Throw in RNG meaning you could get an Uber Unique drop but it might not be the Uber you’re chasing for your build and now you’re looking at massive time sink without any results. In short. Destiny isn’t as bad at rewarding players as it sometimes feels. Play a few other games and you will see what I’m talking about.

                                • you don't have to grind all the weapons. There are only 4 or 5 worth grinding. Be selective or you will burn yourself out
