State of Warlocks

It's sad to say that Bungie has shown the past couple years how degrading they can be to warlocks. From sharing all of their abilities with the other classes, to nuking almost every ability into the ground. Warlocks were advertised as the "ability focused" class, yet that is not what us warlock mains have gotten. Warlocks have been nerfed after every super release or rework. The new strand ability brings no creativity as promised and to to release a starfire ornament after nuking it? The state of warlocks is repulsive, although I love my warlock, bungie has ruined them. A more in depth explanation, warlock rifts are useless as they serve no purpose without some sort of overshield, as do empowering rifts have no use. The "new creative" stran aspect can be stolen by teamates, has a 15 second cool down amd is the same design and purpose as every other class. Solar well has made warlocks "more neutral" as stated by bungie themselves. It seems by bungies terms, warlocks are meant to be the support class only and no do any damage, or even have a fighting chance in crucible as titans run unhinged as #1 overpowered class with hunters being a close second. For something us warlock mains were promised to be "ability based" there sure are a lot of nukes against warlocks making almost all abilities useless. It shows greatly and is sad to see.

  • Warlocks I think are still a bit better than the hunters but between the 2 compared there the most balanced I would like to see hunters get their movement exotic back to its original self. And titans well they broke.

    I agree the 3.0 reworks were a let down in terms of creative or original content and I’m personally quite disappointed with dawnblade as a whole but warlocks are by no means weak. I admit empowering rift has limited utility beyond extremely specialized builds, but healing rift is rather powerful for a class ability; granted at times it’s animation can be a death sentence and it’s cool down can be brutal but none the less it’s one of the strongest class abilities. I agree the wanderer isn’t very good and broodweaver could indeed use some buffs to catch up to Voidwalker, Dawnblade, and Shadebinder but it’s not the absolute worst subclass in the game either. Ultimately, DPS isn’t everything in PVE, and Warlocks are still the best add clears in the game across the board, and voidwalker and dawnblade are some of the best for generic survivability.

    • About my only complaint with my Warlock is the Voidwalker melee. It's so tricky to use for me and Voidwalker is mostly what i use in pvp. I have been having some fun with my arc buddy and Divinity in pvp though. No one really is expecting it and it puts in a surprising amount of work!

      The only way for us Warlocks to be ability spammers would be from Arc (even though our Super is just, there), Strand (with a Super that would do it’s job, or be a disobedient pile of maggots), and Void (with not that great of a Super but atleast it can proc Devour while having proper tracking). The cooldown on Dawnblade and Shadebinder is too high to be spammable without specific exotics. Although when it comes to spammable abilities, Titans definitely got it.

    • Warlock has a special niche in pvp, and you'll find that when you encounter a good warlock player in a game. Warlock melees alone are special for their aoe damage, and ability to hit around walls. Voidwalkers these days will know you're camping around a corner and hit a 90° melee on you, pushing you out of position. Child of the old gods is annoying, and adds extra tick damage to prevent revives, and in special cases it just straight up body blocks damage. Not to mention voidlocks get the best anti-bubble super. Stormcaller has the funny arc slide that needs no further explanation, as well as ball lightning that lets the melee over cover. And with getaway artists you get near infinite amplified and a great little dps buddy. The super itself is alright, a little frail but it can definitely compete with proper blink work. Dawnblade has two stellar melee options, both of which have aoe damage and can tag around walls or over them. Phoenix dive and Icarus dash let's it challenge for best mobility in the game, and dawnblade is an excellent roaming super. Well is alright, I don't really know why it's so popular outside of 3s, they don't get to carry the damage buff so all you have to do is just not approach the well. Stasis warlock has the best freeze capabilities in the game, pretty much guaranteeing at least one super shutdown a match, and the super is perfect for wiping teams and competing with bubbles. Strand has potential for having an army of threadlings everywhere, making it a powerful option, though the super I do not understand at all. All classes do something different, you can't compare the melee and close range prowess of arc titan to the warlock class, for example. They're built for different purposes, but warlock is by no means only a "support class"

          I agree, Whinelocks need their own state. This would keep them away from the rest of us and we'd all be happier for it.

        • Warlocks are the ability SPAM class. And they still are. And at least warlocks have unique abilities. Hunters dont because all our abilities were given to warlocks and titans.

          • Nerf your warlock in to 19th century. Give Hunters a rope that’s kills the entire team. Respawn so Hunters can kill you again with the same Super. Bungie has there head up there -blam!- like usual. The only Super worth a sh-t is Nova Bomb a day 1 super. That’s right a warlock is no better than the Day 1 Warlock. They are a total dumpster fire, complete -blam!-, the moron that says the Warlock is good You just need different build. Those idiots don’t main a Warlock. The Warlock is a total Pile Of DooDoo.

            • I think maybe you should actually try to make a decent warlock build before you start bashing how bad they are. Based on what I see mod wise on your armor you could probably Google some builds and do yourself some favors....
