I'm curious what you think is/isn't an "actual viable class."
Personally, i'd prefer them just give hunters and titans exotics that give handling/reload bonuses to all weapons like Ophids get and then yeah, remove the lunge range bonus. Maybe add it to Karnsteins, a melee exotic, instead.

Im fine with the melee being taken away from ophids as it really never felt right anyways. That being said hunters have dragon shadow which gives increased mobility handling ads and reload speed all for dodging which already has an insanely low cooldown. In terms of a viable class i just think that the disparity between warlocks vs titans and hunters is way too much right now. We should not see more void hunters than warlocks as a whole in pvp but here we are.

Dragons Shadow requires use of a class ability so it's not the same, but if you want to remove requiring the dodge, I'm in for that. Dodging does have a low colldown, but it's not zero or totally free like Ophids and doesn't have the same uptime (always) for the ability buffs in question. You will always see more Hunters period because there are just more Hunters period. Void just happens to be the best pvp subclass on hunter right now so that one gets the most use, but if it was solar, you'd see more solar hunters than anything for the same reason. There's just more hunter than either of the other two so whatever is good on a hunter instantly becomes the most prevalent because of the way the population is.

Dragon shadow does more than ophids thats why it requires some sort of output. Also dragon shadow buff duration is 10 seconds last i checked which leaves you with like what 3 seconds without the buff before you can use it again at tier 10 mobility? And as for hunter usage while hunters have always been more popular I personally have never seen it at this rate. Currently hunters are 2x more popular than warlocks. People will always gravitate towards the meta thats why when Top tree dawnblade was insane you saw alot of warlocks in pvp. The reason we see this drastic decrease in warlock usage is simply because the other classes can do what they do but better.

I'd rather have Ophids than DS and it's not remotely close for me. Guess that's what it boils down to. The other buffs DS provides are minimal for requiring your class ability. For example, 6% sprint speed is cool I guess but nothing exciting and sliding distance means nothing to me after they nerfed sliding. I don't doubt that Warlocks being lesser for now has exascerbated the difference, but even when Top Tree Dawn was the best pvp subclass in the game for months, there were still more Hunters. Just is what it is. I'm not going to get into this class is more fun or better or whatever, but facts are what they are regarding the population. I do agree Warlocks overall need a buff of some kind. Not really sure what that looks like, but they do need something.
