Tips for PVP

D2 is my first FPS n I started in season 15. About 1 month ago I stated PVP b/c the trials weapons look GOOD and I was annihilated no surprise. Then I started practising in control and noted a few things: 1 there is always someone GODLY! Like not missing a shot flying, sliding sniping, etc. idk how that’s possible (I am on console btw elite 2 controller) 2 I feel like I am always slow eg asa I see an opponent I was like shot twice already. 3 often times I run into 1 v X situations 4 a lot ppl talk about pre-aim, but when I see an opponent, it takes couple seconds to move right stick, ads, slight adj, shoot - when I am basically dead already. Any tips for practising/improving.

  • Your probably playing on a TV... that is always the number one problem.... especially big screens... you have zero chance being competitive on a big TV

  • You have controller sens that you can change. I recommend changing them to something comfortable and gradually increase and get use to the changes if sens. As a sniper main I usually keep my sens at 17 and ads sense at 0.8. Then you have to learn basic awareness and movement and practice your aim. You always want to be head level. Ngl the practice for these aren't immediate results. It's taken me some time to get the hang of everything. Yet there's always something everyone can improve on. You also want to learn how read your radar correctly. Recommend looking at some pvp tips vids on YouTube and just improve one thing at a time. Also you need to have mods on that compliment the dominant weapon you use. Btw you need to take the Ls without frustration or getting to angry because if you keep loosing your mind over stuff it will mentally stop you from improving. Try to learn why you lost and died in certain situations and eventually over time you'll see small improvements here and there. Don't be afraid to use meta or what's the strongest. People may send hate mail or tbag you but that's because they have egos. Nothing wrong using the strongest stuff to win games especially trials games.

Change the turn speed to 0.8 Make sure you have the right mods on armor Don’t be ashamed to use meta weapons use what you like. If you play hunter changing ability to R3 would help. That’s the right thumb stick. Dont get confused with videos of people having fast sensitivity if you like it slow that’s fine. Practice most of us here been playing this game for years so don’t get discouraged if you don’t out play some yet. Learn the maps and lanes also learn how to use the radar. Listen to the sounds that certain abilities make and grenades. Good luck. It’s a great game when you are the one slaying

  • Abuse the living hell out of radar.. it took me awhile to realize that once you learn map layouts and how to use radar you can almost always pinpoint their location with just that alone Also never try to stay still or move straight towards an opponent when in a gun fight as tour almost always better off strafing or backing up depending on if they are rushing or not

I wrote this over two years ago to share with people i was carrying through comp. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1k2c3LGOA4GGGh083LHbX5zNeY-D7lo5Y/view?usp=sharing Its a list of big tips that will improve your game, without improving your aim. Please dont mock the illustrations too hard. I did them myself and they are ugly XD

    • This is a small sample size, but a lot of the good players run at max sensitivity, and when I changed mine and got used to it, my stats dramatically increased - albeit with a team. If I run solo, I'm overly aggressive and always get outflanked. Some people learn to play with teammates since call outs are HUGE in PvP, contrary to what some solo's believe. I haven't been able to improve to where I'd like to be, but I've definitely improved from where I used to be. If you can't or won't run with a fireteam, try tagging along with your teammates and team shoot. Also, play with weapons that best fit your playstyle. Not everyone needs to rely on meta's, and not all weapons work for everyone

You’re on Xbox. Purchase an elite controller. Watch this video to set up. https://youtu.be/KbvtkzTq8vU Use a sensitivity that suits your play style. Being accurate is more important then being fast. Consistent head shots are more important then speed. I use the long concave stick for my right and medium concave stick for my left. The long stick in my opinion makes it easier to be much more accurate. Watch your radar. Your radar will save you. That way you can anticipate which direction the enemy is coming from. Watch for flanking enemies. Players like to flank. If your team is looking one way watch your unprotected sides for flanking enemy. If your radar shows your enemy about to round a corner pre fire. Pulses and auto rifles are great for this. Lastly if you’re hurt and don’t have the advantage disengage. Also try to stay with your team. What I do is let them pursue me. Bait them to my teammates. I’m below average at crucible but I enjoy it. These little changes help me to survive. Note: if you use hand canons slow your firing down. Ensure each trigger pull is a crit. Rushing shots and missing increases your time to kill. Learn this in TVG’s YouTube hand-canon video. Practice your weapon types and headshots in patrol.

Best tip I can give you for PVP is to avoid it at all costs after picking up your pinnacle drops for the week. The mode is pretty broken and not fun

      • Go into private matches to learn names of map locations (name is on the left side of screen), good for callouts when you play in a team. That can help with map knowledge and then you can also practice jumps and how to travel around the map. Playing in the mornings can be easier than in the evenings. My favorite is weekend mornings. Using meta weapons and a strong offensive super definitely helps. Use what works, use want Bungie gives you that is strong and don't mind what people say about "cheap" weapons. Take what's yours! If you cant find good people in LFG to play with, its probably because their skill level is better than yours (no offense meant), I also run into this issue. I have an approximate 1.2 KD and 1.7 KDA. I try to use solo matchmaking help me find friends. If you play some matches and you like one or two people you played with, send them a "GG" good game, and ask if they would like to party up and play together. Why I think this is a good idea, Bungie matched you up with them, they probably have a similar skill level and are in a similar spot in grinding glory. Use bonus points to your advantage. If you play 3 games a week, you can get a 120 glory bonus. If you play all 12 weeks, that’s 1440 free points. You only need 660 points to get to fabled. Practice in Rumble or QP new weapons and supers Practice in Rumble your one on one skills. If you cant kill one person by yourself, it will be much harder for you to help out your team. Maybe invite other people you see struggling in PvP and invite them to play private matches and work on one on one skills or 4 vs 4 or whatever. Grow together. Probably common knowledge, If you are the only one with a super, that can be a great time to use yours. No one around to counter you easily with a super of their own. Also you start generating orbs for your team mates so they can get their supers going. Watch Youtube strategy videos from Coolguy, True Vanguard, CammyCakes, Aztecross Gaming. Some of these guys even have their own Discord channels where you can LFG with their fans. I had good success with Coolguys. Some videos to improve game play. https://youtu.be/74e3mByi0d0 https://youtu.be/Be3RwVKO-Go https://youtu.be/sHqiawMXHtI https://youtu.be/3lkQ5ovg4t4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3RXO22ct2w https://youtu.be/hRrLSbizeKk https://youtu.be/oEqrWYQMoAM Super Mods, weapon scavenger perks, targeting Mods, Reload Mods, Dexterity and resilience Mods. Masterwork armor for more defense while in super form. On console, I use jumper controls. It allows me to punch and jump without having to take my thumb off of the look stick (practice new controls in pve, try doing a jumping punch (or shotgun) on someone's head). I also use an Elite controller, it allows me to put a button on the bottom of the controller so I can crouch or slide without taking my thumbs off the sticks. I recently started putting a button under the controller for the action button so I can shoot while I revive or disactivate a bomb and not be a sitting duck. The elite controller allows me to play other games and make the button layout identical to destiny so my buttons don't get mixed up in my head.

        • Shotguns and hand cannons. Bungie loves them and they are always meta.

        • I’m an average player at best so take my advice with a pinch, but trying to improve your game in 6’s solo is always going to be hard. You’re probably better off playing 3’s as they’re less hectic or maybe rumble for more 1v1’s and be prepared to get stomped in the process of getting better. Sounds like the issues you mention are probably down to inexperience and knowing when to engage. The good/godly players (and there’s many of them) will always seem one step ahead of you because they probably are. Movement, map control, reading the radar, optimised loadouts all come with experience and these dudes have been probably been playing for years.

        • Use your radar. Strafe shoot. Stay with your team. Shoot from cover. Use your left stick to aim and right for minor adjustments. What helped me out the most on my elite controller is I changed the right stick to the longest stick. It’s easier to be precise imho. Oh and if you don’t have the advantage break away and re- engage when you do.

          • 1. Equip Fusion rifle 2. Profit Jokes aside, I’d say the best thing to practice based on the info you gave in your post is to play more individual focused modes such as rumble, elimination, and survival. The skills you can develop there would translate better to trials once you get into that. Radar is obviously important to be attentive to. If you see an elite player on your team, try to stick around them and observe things they do or try to support. Just don’t be on top of them because no one likes being bumped :) Angles. Getting the right angles on people and getting a pick such as in elimination could be huge for your team, and could also be the turning point of a match or round.
