Now this is not a hate piece, nor a critique on the seasonal format. This is just something I've noticed as a result of Destiny adopting seasonal story telling over the past three years
That being said, the seasonal story format (regardless of its amazing quality in some cases) does actively harm true in-depth lore discussion and theory outside select few threads
Back in Destiny 1 and Destiny 2's first few years we'd only really get lore dumps during DLCs, leaving the community to speculate on the universe by themselves.
Now with seasons, we can actually progress story threads to their conclusion in an upfront and easily digestible form. It's amazing
However because of this there's no real point in speculation or theory crafting. Why discuss about what'll happen next week when next week is exactly that, a week away.
On top of that almost all the lore we get takes place in the past tense and tells the reader what's going on with X NPC off screen. It's not setting anything up for theorizing, it's just a check in on whoever we haven't heard from in awhile
That being said it's not always the case, we still have some lore pieces that require discussion and theory crafting. But seasons have really changed the landscape from what it used to be, for better or for worse
Peace

작성자: SpliziT 1/12/2022 8:44:19 AMSeasonal format: Good for destiny veterans, bad for new light players. DLC Format (D1): Good for new light players, somewhat bad for Destiny veterans. Let me explain. Seasonal format for this kind of game for the destiny vets are awesome because we can come back anytime for a new season and know how the game works and what has happened leading up to that season. However for new light players, if they start playing in any new random season, they have no direction on anything or what anything means. DLC Format is great for new light players because the story is easily broken down from the first campaign of the game through the few DLCs that are released. It’s more organized and easy to digest. Not only that, there’s no FOMO on a random season. New light players will never know what happened in some random season and it’ll never make sense. The bad part is the content drought that the vets go through. But bungie had a great answer to that with Weekly changing loot from vendors, strike specific loot, and other ever changing things that D2 simply don’t have. TLDR: Bungie should’ve stuck with the DLC format. /opinion.

작성자: MC 077 Lasombra 1/12/2022 3:13:19 AMYeah. I mean it’s double sided. We get more solid lore under the seasonal model but Destiny lores main appeal was the speculation angle. So I’m on the fence to say it’s good or bad. There are pros and cons. My main deal was the new game lead telling us that the game will continue beyond the conclusion of the Dark and Light saga. That was kinda a major spoiler after the lore had built up the Ulan-Tan angle.

7 답변I mean you’re not wrong. But the lore discussions ;and arguments/elitist viewpoints) only existed because the story was so vague. I think there is still plenty to breakdown and discuss but we just have the in game story as the main driving force rather then speculation. I have vivid memories of some prolific lore forum posters bashing people who said Elsie Bray was the stra-blam!- and that Dredgen Yor was Rezzyl because it wasn’t stated in the game or there wasn’t enough evidence. It wasn’t a disagreement but am ignorant and toxic attack for people thinking these things could be true. In the end, they were true and these people never came back and apologised for their toxicity.

1 답변작성자: EARWAK3R 1/11/2022 8:32:51 AMThats weird, cos i keep seeing a ton of daily discussion posts on the destiny lore subreddit. What data do you have to show a decrease in lore discussion to the point that youve drawn the conclusion that its been "killed" ?
-
I wouldn't necessarily agree, I still see plenty of people talking about lore week to week, it's not really killing the discussion, more just moving it to a different form. What does kill discussion, is people who figure out events that are happening in game from datamining or leaked info injecting their piece into discussions with people who are just going on and getting the information as it was supposed to be fed to us. I'm personally still really annoyed about the whole spread of the osiris twist way before it happened, how many people would have actually been onto osiris if that twist wasn't leaked? There would have probably been a strong ongoing discussion up until season of the lost launched about the possibilities of who savathun was really hiding as, and it upsets me.

Part of the nice thing about novels is the capability to reintroduce characters under new circumstances without breaking a chapter. Destiny uses seasonal content to a similar model without letting us enjoy the overall content throughout. This means time gating content with the programming schedule. All in all... I would like to see seasonal content pushed further, but lore is based on what we see and can reasonably discern. It's a tough cycle to beat, but the current model is, in my opinion, better than waiting for the dlc to drop.

There is still some lore discussions and theorizing. Just not as much. People had theories going into this season that Osiris was really Savathun. There’s theories about what’s going on or will happen with Mara. There’s not as much need because the next story threads are right around the corner, but we sometimes have dangling threads for many seasons. The one thing the seasonal model has done is made it so we don’t get as bored as quickly and have to turn to theorizing. We’d beat the expansion and still have 11 months until the next one. All there was was time to theorize. I’d much rather not be so bored all I have is day dreaming about Destiny lore.
